How We Rank Products & Brands on Retail Coupons

How We Rank Products & Brands on Retail Coupons

At Retail Coupons, we want to help shoppers like you make smarter buying decisions. That’s why we created a clear, fair, and independent rating system, scored from 0 to 5, based on real data — not opinions or paid influence.

Our goal is to show you which brands and deals are the most trusted, popular, and valuable — all in one simple score.

Our Rating System: Score from 0 to 5

Each product or brand we list receives a Retail Coupons Score from 0 to 5, with 5 being the highest. These scores are generated using verified data collected through our internal tool and are not affected by manufacturers or sales agents.

You’ll also find editor’s notes and reviews on many listings to give you context — but the score itself is always data-driven.

We also welcome customer reviews. Your experience helps others make better decisions too!

How We Calculate the Score

We rank each brand or product using a mix of three key factors:

1. Popularity (Click Trends)

We measure how often users click on each brand during the past 7 days. More clicks mean more interest. The more a brand is clicked compared to others in the same category, the higher its popularity score.

Note: Some brands may appear more prominently if they participate in advertising. While ads can affect placement, they do not directly change the core rating (0–5) shown.

2. Brand Reputation (Based on Trusted Online Data)

To measure how well-known and trusted a brand is, we use data from multiple reliable sources. These include tools like Semrush, Similarweb, Google Trends, and Ahrefs — all of which help us understand how visible and active a brand is online.

We also look at public mentions and coverage on major news sites such as CNET, Writecutter, Forbes, CNN Business, TechCrunch, Business Insider, Tom’s Guide, PCMag, RTINGS, Consumer Reports, The Spruce, America’s Test Kitchen, and more. If a brand is regularly featured in trustworthy media, it often reflects a higher level of public awareness and reputation. Check out our Copyright Policy for information on content usage.

Together, these signals help us evaluate:

  • How often people search for the brand online
  • How many visitors the brand’s website receives
  • How the brand is talked about in the media

If there's not enough available data, we rely more on the Popularity and Features & Benefits factors to calculate the overall score.

3. Features & Benefits

Our editorial team researches the product or service based on real features that matter to shoppers, such as:

  • Range of services offered
  • Ease of use
  • Customer support
  • Awards or recognitions
  • Accessibility and flexibility

You can see detailed evaluation points on each brand’s review page.
