I ordered dog food online while traveling for work - two 5 pound bags of vital dog food for about $55. Instead, they sent me two 1 pound bags of cat food and charged me $75. My brother didn't catch that it was cat food, so he fed it to my bulldog, and now my dog is sick. I've had to fight with their customer service just to get a refund. This place clearly doesn't care about people's pets at all.

When we brought our dog in for routine vaccinations, the female vet was aggressive and dismissive when we asked her to help calm our anxious dog. She threatened to muzzle him even though he's well-behaved. When I questioned her attitude, she actually refused to help our pet. I cannot recommend using them for veterinary care. They claim to be professional but clearly don't prioritize making dogs feel comfortable.

Petco is a total ripoff. When you return items in-store, they give you a merchandise card instead of a gift card, which doesn't work online. Your system needs to show rewards at the register like every other store does instead of making customers fumble with the app. You're way behind the times on this. It's incredibly frustrating.

I have an older dog with food allergies who's picky about eating. I looked up a base recipe on the website and it said they had it in stock for pickup. When I went to get it, they didn't have it. The store nutritionist was rude and claimed it was illegal to sell dog food without protein - apparently she didn't understand that this product is specifically made so you can swap out different proteins for picky eaters. I ordered everything from another retailer instead. I won't be going back to Petco.

Stay away from signing up for the rewards program. They keep creating phantom accounts with recurring deliveries I never authorized, and I've had to call six different times to cancel them. It's completely frustrating.

The Monterey location has outstanding customer service. Every team member is excellent and always ready to assist. They're incredibly knowledgeable about products and give great recommendations based on what your pet needs. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. I'm really satisfied with them.

What makes Petco stand out is they don't discriminate based on breed - especially breeds like pitbulls. I refuse to support stores that aren't truly pet-friendly. My pitbulls are my family, and I appreciate that Petco gets that.
