I’ve had a great experience with the Ficus Elastica Tineke so far, and honestly, it's become one of my go-to recommendations for anyone getting into houseplants. It's surprisingly low-maintenance, only needs moderate watering, and the air-purifying benefits are a nice bonus. Plus, if you're into plant propagation, it’s super easy to multiply once it’s happy in its space. That said, it’s not totally hands-off. You’ll need to keep an eye out for the occasional pest, and it does appreciate a little pruning now and then to stay looking its best.
But all things considered? It’s an easygoing, stylish addition to any plant collection. For alternative plants, I would definitely recommend Peperomia Obtusifolia or Pink Tradescantia Nanouk.
Pros/Cons

Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’ is a variegated form of the beloved rubber tree. The glossy oval leaves feature an enticing, relaxing palate of greens, cream or ivory, and perhaps a tinge of pink. Precise coloring will vary, depending on light and care. No two leaves will boast identical patterns, which is all part of the fun. You will receive one Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’ fully rooted in a 6” pot. Find your ficus a nice spot bathed in bright but indirect light. This will help maintain the vibrant variegation. While the plant will do fine with less light, the surface of the foliage will suffer. Display with a spider plant, a zz plant, a peace lily, a prayer plant, and other live house plants as office plants, plant decor for bedroom, a mini greenhouse or an indoor greenhouse. Give as housewarming gifts with plant pots, planters for indoor plants, or a wall planter. ‘Tineke’ desires well-draining soil that is consistently lightly moist; it's very much not a fan of soggy feet. One clue that you could be overwatering is if leaves turn yellow and drop, particularly those that aren’t the oldest. Keeping your space in the 60-to-80-degree range will please this indoor plant, as will humidity elevated a bit above average levels. A humidifier, grouping plants, and a pebble tray are some of the ways, in combination or solo, to make ‘Tineke’ feel as if it’s residing in a tropical forest. Like virtually any rubber plant, this house plant carries with it some serious growth potential, possibly reaching ceiling level with age and serving for many years as a fabulous anchor of its space. You can control this trajectory with a conservative repotting schedule or pruning. Hardiness Zone 10 (30 to 40 F). PET TOXICITY WARNING: While all Plants for Pets purchases help to support local animal shelters, we encourage you to display your new plant in a location that your beloved pets cannot access.
