Proceed with caution...

Proceed with caution.... HIDDEN subscription and expiration dates. I ordered a 12 pack of books 3 years ago. I ordered 2 of the 12 books. The creation process is easy but limited. I never knowingly agreed to a subscription and I was never clearly notified about deadlines to order books. That being said, I still have 10 books, from 3 years ago. I was charged $161.00 for a subscription in 2025 and again charged $161.00 in 2026. The card they have access to has been used in fraudulent activity and I don't have access YET somehow they are able to access my money.

They steal your money and provide no service

I’ve been ordering through Chatbooks for many years and up until now I enjoyed this little service. I’d upload the camera roll photos from my phone and print them into a tidy booklet. About 2 years ago, I received some sort of communication that I HAD to sign up for a subscription in order to continue using them. Reluctantly I signed up. The subscription was for 4 books a year, charged to my credit card and kept as “credits” until used. All fine and dandy, except I simply do not take that many pictures. My credits were backing up, so I finally canceled my subscription in, I believe, August of 2025. No where did I see that I only had 3 months to use my stored credits, or they would be taken. So to my surprise, today, when I logged into my Chatbooks account to catch up on my latest photo book, I discovered no credits. Peculiar, since I know I had at least a few. I contacted customer service only to be told that since my subscription was no longer active, the best they could offer me was to restore my credits for only 30 days. This is an abysmal business practice and absolute theft. This is real money that they took from me, with zero services rendered. Horrid business practice. I intend to print whatever photos I have and be done with this company forever.Congrats Chatbooks, you lost another customer.

Used to be good, not anymore

I am a professional photographer and have used Chatbooks for 10 years (since 2016) for my personal family snapshots. I found their app easy to use and the monthly books to be the perfect size. I didn’t like that the monthly books required 1 image per page so I found a free collage app and uploaded the collages as a work around. If you do a “regular” book through Chatbooks they have a built in collage creating option. My gripe comes from when they switched to regular billing (credits) instead of the pay as you print that they started with. It was always confusing as to how many credits I had built up. They would say I had X credits but when I looked at their billing I added it up to be Y. Then the quality became an issue. I didn’t have a problem for 8 years, the books were of good quality printing- meaning they printed very close to what I saw on my screen. But shortly before they moved to the credit system quality started to go down. My books were being printed darker than my screen was showing. It got so bad in January of 2026 that I asked them to reprint two books - we have very light skin tones and the books came back so dark that it looked nothing like the images I sent. I contacted customer service and only got a bot. The bot eventually got me to a human who agreed that the books were printed incorrectly and had the books reprinted for us. (I loathe when companies switch to bots for customer service for issues like this. The bot won’t help you and it takes way too long to get a human involved so that the issue can be resolved.) I received the reprinted books two weeks later and they didn’t look any different from the original books. This time I had an email address so I contacted the human directly- which took a few days to respond- and they reprinted it again. Again, the books came back just as dark. It was not the photos, as the customer service agent agreed that the proof she was seeing was much lighter than what I received. I now had three copies of the same two books that were completely useless to look through. They didn’t do anything other than offer to keep reprinting which I was tired of at this point. If Chatbooks didn’t fix the issue the first time or 2nd time why would it get better the 3rd time? I was very frustrated and disappointed. I have been singing their praises to everyone I know for 10 years and they couldn’t get me these two books printed correctly. I no longer trusted them to print anymore books either. Why waste my time and money if it’s going to keep printing too dark. I had them refund me for the printed books and for the credits that had built up in the 3 months it took for these books to be reprinted.I’m really frustrated and sad with this experience and just wish they would have fixed the issue as I absolutely loved their products up to this point. However I no longer trust them and will not buy from them again.

Chatbooks recently printed a book for…

Chatbooks recently printed a book for me with the incorrect year. I have solid proof, as a screenshot of what was ordered, and I have been unable to re-order the book. They are supposedly giving me a credit, but I can’t figure out how to use that credit. And they absolutely positively will not speak to you on the phone.

Confusing subscription, Robotic Customer Service

The subscription is really confusing. I signed up for a initial offer, didn't realise the credits have various expiry dates depending on if they were part of an offer or normal subscription. I don't like how I only get 7 days to edit a book once it's got 30 photos, before it goes to print.Wish I'd never signed up. I don't have that many photos to print, feel trapped. If I cancel my subscription I think I might forfeit credits I've paid for, but to be honest I'm not sure because the system is so confusing. Also, their customer service was like talking to a bot (different issue, advertised offer wasn't available at checkout). I was genuinely shocked when I found out it was actually a person.

The only way I actually get my photos…

The only way I actually get my photos printed!I’ve been using this service since 2021, and it is truly the best balance of price, quality, and ease. Like most people, I used to print loose photos hoping I’d eventually find time to scrapbooks them, but with a family and a busy schedule, that was never going to happen. The Monthbook subscription changed everything. It pulls photos directly from my phone library by date, so the "work" is basically done for me. I love that I can customize layouts, add emojis, and color-code the covers by year. Their live chat is incredible, they usually respond and resolve issues within minutes.Pro Tip: I stick an envelope to the back cover for keepsakes and add a blank page in the app before printing so I can tape in birthday or Christmas cards later! It’s turned a box of "someday" memories into a beautiful, organized library our family actually looks at.I plan to use them forever, thanks Chatbooks for a great experience!

I subscribed to get the monthly books…

I subscribed to get the monthly books in a gradient pink color that goes from light to dark, as advertised. When the second book arrived, it looked lighter but I wanted to wait till I receive the third. The shades were really off. I informed them and they advised me to wait to receive a few more books. I got five and the colors aren’t even the same and clearly not in a gradient. Very disappointed as I had a limited budget for this. They also increased their price from $35 to $50 for a mini book, not worth it for the quality.

ITS NOT WORTH IT TO GET THE $1 PHOTO BOOK

#1- The pictures were not in the order I sent them in,#2- It's a beautiful book, especially for $1, HOWEVER, the numerous notifications daily are ridiculous#3- I had to delete my account because right before the option to delete it, was where the option to "Cancel Subscription" was- it should not be that difficult to cancel anything#4- I deleted my account about 4-5 days ago BUT they STILL TRIED BILLING MY CARD!!! And of course because I no longer have an account, I can't log in to talk to customer service so I had to block them through my card issuer#5- I was hesitant from the beginning because I knew there was something fishy about the "$1 photo book" promotion #6- I STRONGLY DISCOURAGE USING CHAT BOOKS, INC, was NOT worth the hassle...

Beware

Here’s a **clean, strong, honest review** that keeps your frustration clear without crossing into anything that could get flagged or dismissed. It still hits hard.---I used to genuinely love Chatbooks. I’ve been a loyal customer since **2022**, recommending them to friends and building a growing collection of books that meant a lot to me.Back then, I paid around **$20 per book**. Over time, prices increased, which I understood — until recently. The cost has now jumped to **$45 per book**, a **$15 increase**, which already felt steep. I debated cancelling, but because I’ve been collecting these books for years, I decided to accept the increase and continue my subscription. Then January 1st happened.Instead of being charged $20 or even $45, I was charged **$60 for a single book** — a book that cost me **$24 just one month earlier**.To make things worse, I was charged in **USD**, even though:* I’m a Canadian customer* My account is set to **CAD*** Chatbooks ships free to Canadians* I’ve used the **same PayPal account and payment method since 2022**This exact USD billing issue happened once before (April of last year). At that time, customer service acknowledged it was an error on their end and issued me a free book credit. I didn’t need the credit — I already pay monthly — but it mattered that they took responsibility and didn’t dismiss me.This time was very different. When I contacted support, I was told the issue was **PayPal’s fault**, not theirs. I explained that this had happened before and was previously resolved by Chatbooks. The response I received was argumentative and dismissive, repeatedly insisting PayPal had “just started being accepted,” which is simply untrue — I’ve been paying this way for years. The only way I was told I could get my money back was by **cancelling my entire account** and taking the charge up with my bank, because Chatbooks blamed PayPal and PayPal blamed Chatbooks. The moment I said I would escalate it with my bank, I was suddenly refunded — and my account was immediately closed. That’s how Chatbooks chose to end a **3-year loyal customer relationship**.They didn’t just lose a subscriber — they lost someone who genuinely loved, shared, and promoted their product. Price increases happen, but poor customer service and refusal to take accountability don’t have to.Do better.
