So much needs improvement . . . ..

There is a lot that needs improvement at Giant Food. To begin, their point of sale software on the self-checkout registers is horrible. Very touchy and no matter how careful you are, you will likely end up needing assistance from one of their staff to clear some error or mis-checked item. And the fact that they are obviously cutting back on staff means you will likely have to wait. Also, their "digital coupon" system means that I need to have 1 more username and account to remember and reset every other time I go there. Just issue coupons in your flyers, or offer them to the member tag/card holders via a swipe. I'm in-store and want to "clip" a digital coupon, and the store doesn't get cell reception unless I go up to the front windows with my phone to access the web site. I've often gotten meats from the deli dept that were suspicious looking when I got them home (like already bad looking). Finally, their selection is often poor in some specific areas. The only real thing they have going for them in my case is their location is convenient. Biggest improvement they could make is to change the POS register system and offer coupons in their paper flyers or just by virtue of having the frequent shopper card. This is not an issue just from a recent visit. This has been a frustration ongoing for years with them.

Giant Foods cares about Customer Service only if it doesn't cost them anything!

When Montgomery Country, Maryland banned plastic bags starting 1/2026, stores switched to brown paper bags. Giant's bags don't have handles so for us senior citizens it requires carefully lifting each bag to avoid dropping them when loading into cars. I have come to learn that Target, Harris Teeter and CVS, to name a few, have kindly stepped up to provide paper bags with handles. I will look to do more shopping at those stores for my groceries. And apparently when managers brought this concern from other customers before me (according to management at my local Giant) to corporate they refused to provide them. Small price to pay for customer service. The original Maryland based owners would have done the right thing and many would agree. Good luck Giant!

Why do we need one more step to get the lowest prices?

For many more people, times are hard. Gas prices are up, food prices are up, college graduates have difficulty getting jobs…why oh why do we have to take yet another step to get the lowest price on food? Will all seniors know how to or remember to do this? Will people with disabilities? Veterans with PTSD? Who are you benefiting? Giant benefits. The most vulnerable and those who don’t have the extra time to figure out and comb thru the app to find the coupons will pay more. But Giant benefits, yay for Giant, right?

Hate Giant's reward program

I occasionally shop at Giant only because it's close to my home. I absolutely hate the rewards program. I'm marginally ok with entering a loyalty number, but why do I have to use the app in order to get their best prices? I much prefer Wegman's and Trader Joe's, where the prices and quality are far superior to Giant's and I don't have to jump through hoops to get their best prices.

Watch your invoices

Watch your invoice, they charge you a different price at checkout and when they refund you it's usually at a lower price and prices are not accurate..Example,,, rumba marrow bone charge you 5 .98 and refund you a dollar less.. and the prices on your initial order is usually inflated when you get your final invoice.I've noticed this several times..Time to find another place to shop

There is a fellow named Charles or Charlie. He said whichever. He works the parking lot with the carts at the Stonemill store in Lancaster. He is absolutely the hardest working, most pleasant person I have ever encountered working at Giant.. He is always helping somebody and he just doesn't slow down. I always look for him when I go to Giant. Hire some more workers like him!!!!!!

I would like to take a moment to say thank you to, a cashier at this store, Yvonne, and as Assistant Manager, I believe her name is Tiana. These two women are such hard workers and always so very professional, under all circumstances. It is indeed a pleasure to see that True Customer Service Does Still Exist. Thank you, Giant!!!

Beware of Giant foods inflated prices and deceptive PR gimmicksI have utilized the Giant food store…

I have utilized the Giant food store habitually over the last couple of years because of its closeness to my home. But it has become more and more evident that their prices are inflated and in fact they gouge their customers compared to Walmart and other competitive grocery stores. Take a moment and compare prices at Giant with Walmart, you will find .50 cents or more price differences on most commodities. Giant also constantly targets its customers at checkout with donation prompts, what seems on the surface as charitable interventions is in fact an evil corporate public relations scam where giant collects these donations and then uses them for their own PR purposes and also most probably to reduce their tax burden when in fact it is a another way they make their customers pay more for using their stores. They do have a loyalty rewards program but with closer analysis a customers will only get mere pennies back while the store is jacking up their prices on their commodities. Beware of using Giant if you are trying to save any money, Walmart may be a global entity but they do not act like their really are doing something special for their customers while Giant uses clever PR ploys to make their customers pay significantly more a checkout.

Great customer service experience.

I had a wonderful experience today at Giant Food. It made me aware of how Customer Service really has changed. I was in Giant, store number 344, Elkridge Marshallee Dr. CJ directed me to the self service line. She was genuinely helpful, warm, and just amazingly pleasant. I realized how much I miss having that kind of experience in a store especially Giant Food that I’ve been going to my whole life. Thank you, CJ.
