Watch out for Shutterstock's Auto-Renew and Account Cancelation.

Watch out for Shutterstock's Auto-Renew and Account Cancelation services. They are abusive, to say the least. I was charged for anual renewal plan I didn't ask for and once I immediately canceled my account, I was charge with 50% of that shady plan in advance. $116 for nothing.

Don't sign up!

I signed up for Shutterstock believing I was purchasing short-term access. At the time of sign-up, it was not clear to me that I was entering into an annual subscription with ongoing monthly billing and a cancellation fee. When I raised the issue with them, they were available through email but really inhuman. Even though it's obvious I wasn't aware of the annual plan/cancellation fee and haven't used the service they refused to backtrack on charging me a cancellation fee. Really bad service experience.

This company is a trap

Whilst images are good, Shutterstock traps you into 12 month plans that you cannot get out of. I waited 12 months to be able to cancel and then had to pay another $180 to cancel. This company is a trap.

Shutterstock is a scam.

I think that this company is really a thinly veiled criminal enterprise. You sign up for a one time service and wind up mysteriously getting charged monthly for something you know nothing about. They took seventeen payments of $7.00 from my Paypal account without my knowledge or consent. That's two years, where I didn't log in once. And once I found out and asked them what service I'd signed up for, they blocked me because I had stopped the payments on Paypal after it was impossible to navigate their website to my so-called account. I opened up a dispute on Paypal, and paypal sided with them. I asked them to unsubscribe me, and I'm still waiting. Do NOT navigate to this website. It's a scam.

worse stock

As the author, I can say that they steal money from accounts. They also post stolen content without checking their own database. They delay payments by three months. There’s no support whatsoever—not even basic bots. I don’t recommend this stock; it couldn’t be worse.

bunch of crooks

I am writing from a contributer standpont. The company is really a bunch of crooks. The best photos are rejected for false reasons, for example, for being "AI generated" (I took the photos myself and I kow they are real). At the same time much worse photos get accepted. The impression is created that they are deliberately trying to kill the competition. The payout is miserable, and they trying to make it even less by assigning your photos for "data licensing" (even if you opted out of this option).

No mention of the cancellation fee…

No mention of the cancellation fee ($116) when I signed up for the service. What a horrendous service. It's just a mechanism for taking people's money without their consent.

Image packs automatically refill and recharge you without asking

You pay for a two image pack. But as soon as you download the second image it automatically charges you for another two image pack and you only find out when you look at your bank statement. This is through an 'auto refill' setting that was NEVER explained when buying the pack and never confirmed when the pack ran out. Disgusting practice.

Double Billed

It is astonishing to witness the sheer number of negative reviews about this company, yet it continues to operate without facing any consequences from the authorities. The government needs to safeguard its citizens from unscrupulous companies. I recently purchased a photo and was shocked to find that I was charged £22.80 twice. Fortunately, I noticed this error on my bank statement, but this isn't the first time it's happened; a similar incident occurred a few months ago, leading me to suspect that this might be their standard practice. Additionally, I found out that they claim I signed up for a subscription, which is completely untrue. I'm fed up with these types of scams!
