High Country Gardens Reviews
High Country Gardens receives polarized feedback from shoppers, with roughly equal numbers of one-star and five-star reviews. Those satisfied with their purchases highlight responsive customer service, quick replacements when plants arrive in poor condition, and healthy plants that thrive after arrival. However, a substantial majority of reviewers report serious issues including plants arriving dead or diseased, infestations with spider mites and aphids, waterlogged shipments leading to root rot, and refusal to replace damaged plants. Several shoppers also express frustration with the company's inflexible pricing policies and lack of promised arrival notifications.
The inconsistency between positive and negative experiences suggests significant reliability problems with plant condition upon delivery. While the company's customer service response time receives praise from some, the frequency of dead or infested plants reaching customers indicates potential issues with packing, shipping logistics, or plant quality at the time of shipment. Shoppers considering orders should weigh the risk of receiving damaged plants against the possibility of responsive replacement service.
Got 6 granita raspberry ice plants shipped to me, and the whole process took about 10 days from purchase to delivery. When they arrived, they didn't look great, so I snapped some photos and sent them over. The company got back to me really fast with an email and set up a replacement order right away. Couldn't ask for better service than that
They refused to replace three plants that didn't make it, claiming it was too cold. Most nurseries won't ship until the weather warms up anyway. These three had no identification tags, and two were so tiny you'd need a magnifying glass to see them. They asked for information they already had in their system, then after I spent a couple hours dealing with this, they said to call if things improved when it got warmer. But there was no actual foliage on any of them, so they just disappeared. Their guarantees don't mean anything, and I'm out over $240. Zero customer service from this place
Overall really let down with this whole thing. I placed an order online and right after that your site started running discounts and free shipping deals. I asked if they could adjust the price and was told no without any hesitation. Another landscaping company did the exact same thing and gave me a refund immediately. When my order arrived, the grass was in bad shape, almost 90 percent dead. Just bad customer service and a bad experience. Won't be coming back
All 14 plants arrived dead after spending just a couple days in transit and sitting on my porch in warm weather. They don't stand behind their product once it ships from their facility. The condition must have been pretty bad to end up like that. Their arrival notification email that they promised never showed up
Really satisfied with my purchase. I got a nice mix of different plants that shipped out within a few days. Just a heads up though, you probably want to avoid ordering on a Thursday if you can help it. Everything arrived in perfect shape and my plants are doing really well a month later. Placed the order in early May and it's now mid-June
Ordered 19 plants and roughly half arrived waterlogged and are fighting root rot. Another six have massive spider mite and aphid problems. Everything was shipped in one box, so I'm guessing the infestation spread to the rest. Right now I'm keeping them all separated and trying to rescue as many as possible before it's time to plant them out
Shipping was pretty fast but the plants I got look nothing like the pictures online, especially the coral bells which came in completely different colors. They were also expensive for how small they were. I paid $16 per plant when I could get them at my local hardware store for $10 and they're four times bigger. Since the store had limited selection, I grabbed 12 from this company and I'm really disappointed with all of them
Most of the wildflower seeds I ordered didn't germinate. Out of the few live plants I got, one showed up completely dead. The soil was prepared properly, tilled and lightly covered with straw. I contacted High Country three times through email. They asked me to send back the tiny dead plant one time, which had rotted roots, so I sent photos instead. That's where it ended. They never responded to my concerns and basically ignored me
They do marketing really well and the catalog has useful info, but the plant quality has been rough. Most of what I received weren't even alive. They say their plants have great root systems, but that wasn't my experience at all in my orders from fall 2023 and spring 2024. Tiny plant plugs got shoved into dry soil and shipped out, and nothing made it. Don't waste your time or money
Their phone customer service is basically nonexistent. Out of a big order, only one plant showed up. I was charged the full amount but nobody will answer my emails about the rest. Is this place even still operating
Ordering was straightforward but the customer support was terrible. We ordered drought-tolerant plants suited for our clay soil in central Utah and chose a pre-designed garden package. They replaced one of the plants with something that shouldn't work in clay soil, and the whole delivery came a week early without notice, which meant we had to scramble to prepare the bed. When I called with soil amendment questions, I sat on hold for over 3 hours before getting disconnected. Called back and got stuck in another hold queue that showed 12 minutes but went on for an hour. They did email back saying responses take 4 days
Had a frustrating experience trying to return xeriscape lawn seeds. First, their website doesn't clearly explain the return process, so I used the chat feature. I waited more than 30 minutes just to get a generic copy-pasted response about returns. After I shipped the items back and sent them the tracking number like they said, they processed my refund but it was $16 short with zero explanation. When I asked why, it took about an hour to hear back that shipping isn't refundable. The confusing part is they have that policy buried on a different page from their returns info, which feels deliberately hidden. Even after that explanation, there was still a $1.23 difference they said was tax on the original shipping cost. Since I also had to pay to ship it back, I basically lost almost half of what I paid
Had a great experience overall. The customer service team was super helpful when I ran into a serious fungus problem with my plants. They really went the extra mile to help me troubleshoot. Thanks so much for the support and we'll definitely be shopping with you guys again
Plants I got from them developed a fungus or mildew within a couple weeks of planting. I sent pictures and got an email back basically telling me I don't know how to grow plants, like it was my fault the plant was diseased. I've been growing this exact type of plant successfully for over 15 years without any issues. Had to throw out all the plants so the fungus wouldn't infect my other healthy ones. High Country didn't offer replacements or refunds. That was my one and only order from them
