Fred Meyer receives overwhelmingly negative feedback, with 15 shoppers rating the store 1.8 out of 5. The vast majority of complaints center on workplace culture and employee treatment, with reviewers describing inadequate management support for employees facing racial harassment, lack of diversity in leadership roles, and poor treatment of workers with disabilities. Beyond employment issues, shoppers report frustration with the website and app redesign, describing navigation as difficult and unintuitive, along with inconsistent customer service at physical locations where staff members are described as unhelpful and unwelcoming.

A small number of reviewers highlight exceptional pharmacy staff as a bright spot, with one customer praising the head pharmacist at a specific location for catching prescription errors and identifying potential allergic reactions. One shopper also had a positive experience with the phone department customer service team. However, these isolated positive experiences are far outweighed by systemic complaints about customer service at store locations and frustration with the digital shopping experience. Some shoppers indicate they continue shopping at Fred Meyer only due to lack of local alternatives and are actively seeking to switch to competitors.

This is a terrible employer. During my three years here, management and HR offered no backup when customers directed racial abuse at me and other Black employees. Not once in those three years did I see any Black or Brown people in management roles. The company showed us no real support in dealing with this treatment.

I've spent two decades working for this company as someone with a disability, and what started as a decent job turned into a real struggle. Last year, I came close to filing an EEOC complaint because of how I was treated. Every few months there's something I have to fight for, and I'm exhausted. The company lost what little trust I had left in them, and honestly, I'm tired of how they treat employees with disabilities. I've watched good people with potential get pushed out because they don't fit what management wants. If you have a disability, they stick you in one position and that's it. You get denied opportunities unless you force your way into them. The union helps protect me, but that's beside the point. This place has made me burnt out and I'm moving on to a different career where my skills and abilities are actually valued. A company that won't promote people with disabilities into leadership roles or even different departments is showing its true colors. I'm done and ready to work somewhere that treats all employees with real respect.

I only shop here because there aren't other options in my area, but I'm really excited that a new Winco location is coming soon because I plan to switch there. The Kroger app and website are basically unusable. The recent redesign made everything harder to navigate and the interface is clunky. Service from the staff leaves a lot to be desired. I stopped using the regular checkout lanes because the cashiers would make sarcastic comments about what I was buying, and items always seemed to arrive home damaged. Now I just do self-checkout, though I'm frustrated that my state banned plastic bags. Paper ones are terrible because the handles rip under any real weight.

The pharmacy at the Ballard location is outstanding. The head pharmacist there is incredibly knowledgeable and has saved me multiple times by catching errors on prescriptions from walk-in clinics and identifying medications that would cause me allergic reactions. She's patient, kind, and genuinely helpful whenever I ask about my medications or possible side effects. This pharmacy deserves top marks and that pharmacist is truly a gem in her profession.

I had an amazing experience with the phone department customer service team!

Michelle D.Feb 2, 2025

The customer service here is the worst. Nobody greets you or offers assistance. I went to the service desk to get a money order and the person just stared at me without saying good morning or asking how they could help. If you're unhappy in your job, just be honest about it instead of making customers feel unwelcome.

Your website has become completely unusable. The new design is worse than what you had before. I can't search for items the way I used to. This update is definitely a step backward, not forward. I'm taking my money somewhere else where I can actually shop online without the frustration.

Fred Meyer pulled a bait and switch on me. I purchased a 65 inch Samsung TV on Saturday from their Beaverton location. When I went to pick it up Sunday, I was running late, but the customer service rep assured me it was fine to grab it whenever worked for me since my purchase was already complete. I came back the next day, found my parking spot, and then realized Fred Meyer had cancelled my original order. They tried to gaslight me by offering a 55 inch model at the same price instead. That's not the same TV and not the deal I made. I paid $377 for the 65 inch and they're refusing to honor that purchase, pushing some other product on me instead. The deceptive part is that their website made it look like I was just reordering the same thing, but it wasn't. This is dishonest and shady business practice. By the time I was done figuring this out, the pickup staff had left. This whole situation felt designed to confuse customers into accepting a worse deal. I'm putting in a complaint with the Oregon Attorney General.

There's a real problem with how this store stocks shelves. Popular items that sell quickly don't get enough shelf space or variety in package sizes. The Blue Buffalo dog treats I buy are constantly missing. The sausage bites and small bone treats are also always gone. Meanwhile, A-1 Steak Sauce only has one lonely bottle and one size option, but competing brands get multiple spots and options. The store itself is beautiful and clean, so I wish they'd fix the stocking issue instead of letting whoever pays for shelf space control what gets displayed. Also, the digital coupon system doesn't work on my phone no matter how many times I try it. I've even had help from customer service, but it still won't cooperate. It's frustrating that older shoppers like myself are being pushed toward a system that's not reliable for everyone. Someone should reach out and actually address this feedback.

I got charged incorrectly at checkout because digital deals didn't apply like they should have. The cashier didn't fix the problem on the spot. When I went to the service desk to sort it out, they had a tough time getting the override to work, and I had to stand around waiting while they figured it out. If you're not paying close attention at Fred Meyer, they'll overcharge you. The digital coupon system is a mess. My advice is to avoid shopping there until they actually respond to complaints and straighten out their billing issues. Other stores like Costco, Walmart, and Winco give you an accurate total right there at the register instead of forcing you to go back and deal with it later.

I used to be a regular at the Fred Meyer on 3rd and Thor, shopping there constantly and even using their pharmacy services. Unfortunately, things have changed so much that I've switched to Walmart and other stores instead. The pharmacy staff turns over constantly, and I had a bad experience with one employee who was rude and dismissive to me. Even after management talked to her, nothing improved, so I stopped going there. The bags fall apart easily - I've seen handles scattered across the parking lot. You literally can't put anything heavier than a roll of toilet paper in them without the handles breaking. The self-checkout near the bathrooms is frustrating because of the constant beeping while you're trying to complete your transaction or waiting for bathroom access. Customer service in general feels understaffed. And don't get me started on the fuel rewards program. It used to let you accumulate 20 or 30 cents in discounts that you could use together, but now you're limited to 10 cents per fill-up. When gas prices are high, that small discount that I used to stack up made a real difference. Fred Meyer just isn't the same store it used to be.

I found Peeps at Winco for $1.48, then walked across the street to Fred Meyer and saw the same item priced at $1.79. This company wants to merge with Albertsons to create an even bigger monopoly so they can raise prices whenever they feel like it, with no real justification.

Brian H.Mar 29, 2024

Just wanted to mention something about the self-checkout. Did you know the machine can automatically accept cash bills without you pressing any button?

Linda P.Dec 25, 2023

The quality of products at this store is questionable. A box of Chips Ahoy cookies I bought were extremely stale and tasted awful, yet the packaging seemed completely untouched and new. When I brought them back to customer service, the staff accused me of switching them out or tampering with them. It was embarrassing and upsetting. The cookies were clearly bad - rock hard, flavorless, oily, and way too thin. There was no expiration date on the box. I also noticed the shelf price said $2.00 but rang up at $4.49 when I checked out. This isn't an isolated incident either. On previous visits, I returned a bottle of spirulina tablets that had no ingredient list and turned out to be mostly filler, plus bags of coffee with misleading labels that were stale and bland. Every time I shop here, I feel like I'm digging through somebody's trash looking for acceptable items. It's honestly gotten to the point where it feels like the dumpster is their warehouse.

Thomas W.Dec 10, 2023

Fred Meyer in Nampa is overpriced. They spent over a million dollars remodeling the store and then jacked up prices on tons of items by almost double. We customers never asked for a remodel and shouldn't have to foot the bill through inflated prices. For example, avocados cost $2.50 each here but only 68 cents at Walmart down the road. I've been a loyal rewards member for 28 years, and now they charge me 75 cents just to get cash back on a transaction. That's ridiculous. They've lost me and plenty of my neighbors as customers. We're switching to Walmart.
