Giant Eagle Reviews
Giant Eagle shoppers are divided in their opinions, with ratings split between those highly satisfied and those experiencing significant problems. Positive reviewers praise individual staff members, particularly in the bakery department, for knowledgeable and friendly service. Some appreciate the store's product selection, fresh meat options, and gas pump rewards program. However, negative reviews highlight serious concerns: delivery orders arriving with quality issues (expired items, unsealed containers, past-prime produce), pharmacy department delays (prescription refills taking multiple days), and inconsistent customer service interactions.
The pharmacy department emerges as a recurring pain point, with customers reporting frustratingly slow refill processes. Delivery order quality also concerns shoppers who received items in wrong containers or with expired products. While some reviewers acknowledge the store is managing well during uncertain times, others expect more reliability in core services like pharmacy operations and food delivery fulfillment.
Delivery Order Quality Issues. I ordered pasta supreme and it arrived in the wrong container, completely unsealed. The fruit was past its prime and didn't taste right. To make it worse, the fruit cups and mayonnaise packets were already expired.
Managing Well in Uncertain Times. They're doing their best to navigate these challenging business conditions.
Witnessed Unprofessional Service Tonight. I wasn't buying much but I saw something really upsetting tonight. An employee named Caitlin refused to sell cigarettes to a customer at 9:55 PM when the store was still open. She just said she didn't want to. The customer recorded the interaction and when the manager got involved Caitlin was yelling. The manager wasn't helpful either. Look, the store was open, the customer was legitimate, and selling a pack of smokes takes two minutes. Instead they spent way longer arguing about not selling it. This was poor customer service from both the employee and management. I won't be back to this location because of how this was handled. Seriously, if you're open five minutes before closing, you're still open.
Pharmacy Service Needs Major Improvement. The Willoughby location's pharmacy department is underperforming. Why should prescription refills take three days? I've had ongoing issues getting my refills handled promptly, so I switched to 90-day prescriptions to manage this problem. I called in five refills yesterday and only got two filled today. Complaining doesn't help because the pharmacy manager doesn't seem to care about customer service, and the store manager is no better either. The whole pharmacy team needs an overhaul. I'm moving my prescriptions to another pharmacy that actually values their customers.
Bakery Staff Really Came Through! I went to the bakery counter needing assistance and Rollene was fantastic. She knows her products inside and out and was so friendly about it. Her customer service was top notch and really made my experience better. I'll definitely ask for her help every time I come in. Much appreciated!
New Name, Better Store! Since this location rebranded as Market Place, it's become my go-to grocery store. Their upgrade to a more upscale shopping experience is really working. They've expanded their product selection significantly and offer fresh meat cuts in varieties I can't find elsewhere. Gas pump savings are a nice bonus too. Yes, prices run higher than competitors, but those fuel discounts make up for it.
Poor Work Environment Concerns. My daughter works at Giant Eagle and she tells me it's a terrible place to be employed. Management expects people to show up even when they're sick, and if you call out you get points against you. Get 21 points and you're fired. They don't accommodate ADA needs and run the place like it's a prison. They hire people constantly but most only last a week. My daughter trained four cashiers last week and they all quit. The managers have no clue how to treat employees or run a store. If you're thinking about working there, I'd seriously reconsider. You'd have more freedom in the military.
Digital Wallet Problems. I've had several hundred dollars loaded in my digital wallet and I can't get to any of my coupons. This has been going on for over a week now. I called customer service and they weren't able to help or tell me when this would be fixed. I also sent an email with my concerns but haven't heard back. The customer service team at the main office really dropped the ball here.
Unclear Guarantee Experience. Giant Eagle advertises that they'll give you double your money back on their store brand items if you're not happy, but here's the catch: they won't automatically honor it. You have to specifically ask them about it or they won't mention it. I'm giving them three stars because they've actually honored it when I've brought it up, but it's frustrating that you have to be the one to point out their own policy.
Digital Coupons Are a Dealbreaker! Digital coupons only is a bad move. Not everyone has a printer or internet access. This is pushing me toward Shop & Save instead. You need to bring back printed ads in the mail. You're losing customers by going digital only. Not everybody conducts their life online.
Missing the Paper Ads and Plastic Bags. I'm disappointed that you stopped mailing out sales flyers and stopped providing plastic bags. I feel like this is really about cutting costs and boosting profits rather than environmental concerns.
Cleanliness and Selection Concerns. I appreciate that the milk and meat are fresh, but I'm giving two stars for other reasons. First, they stock mostly off brands and you can't find name brand basics like saltines. Second, and this is the real problem that'll keep me away: I went through checkout and the cashier was visibly ill, barely able to speak and struggling to keep her head up. She'd already rung up half my groceries when I realized how sick she was. I went home and sanitized every item with wipes and soap and water, threw out the bananas and things that couldn't be cleaned. Why would you have someone that sick handling food and exposing customers to germs? I understand staffing is tough but I'd rather wait in a long line with a healthy worker than leave sick. That's irresponsible. This Giant Eagle is on East Broad in Blacklick, Ohio, and I'm switching to Kroger.
Five Stars for Our Local Giant Eagle! Our neighborhood Giant Eagle location is fantastic. Brian manages the produce section and he's amazing. He goes the extra mile to help customers every single time. The store manager is always available, listens to what we need, and takes care of any issues. I use their pharmacy for all my prescriptions and the pharmacist and team are professional and friendly. They even have a Starbucks in the store! I've been shopping at Giant Eagle for decades, going all the way back to my days in Pittsburgh in the late 80s. Giant Eagle has always been there for us through everything, from midnight runs for groceries and diapers to cakes and breakfast treats. Thanks for being such a dependable neighborhood store. Make sure you sign up for their rewards card!
Good Pharmacy but Store Needs New Direction. My husband uses the Avon Lake pharmacy for his prescriptions. They added a Starbucks recently which is nice. Honestly though, I worry the location is declining, kind of like what happened with Tops in our area. I have a soft spot for Giant Eagle going back to my days in Pittsburgh, and I hope the leadership comes up with better strategies to turn things around and keep this institution thriving.
Solid Choice for Quality and Value. I'm a practical shopper and Giant Eagle works for me. They're not the only option out there, which I'm grateful for. But comparing them to the other stores around, I pick Giant Eagle most of the time because they usually stock what I need at reasonable prices. The people who work there are genuinely nice and helpful.
