I paid for their "Deluxe Support" because their site says it provides "unlimited amended returns". After completing my amended return, they charged me $17.97. Customer service refused to help, and customer service even left the chat (they don't have a phone number) when they realized they were lying about their products. This company is a scam and fraud and should be shut down.Update: after freetaxusa response, I will clarify by pointing to their own website (which truspilot won't allow me to post a link here). It clearly says free amended returns, more than once, while never specifying that it has to be in a particular year. I paid for free amended returns and they refused to provide that. And their customer service agent rudely ends chat to avoid handling the problem. So I now have to start everything over. But I'm just yelling at the wind because freetaxusa doesn't care about my effort. They could have issued a credit to make everything work, but they refused and I have to start over.

I was doing my son’s tax a basic 1040 the Turbo tax was charging for both Federal and State129+65. Went open an account with FreeTaxUSA and they charged me 15.99 for state and Federal was free. That kind of price difference prompted me to give a review.

This is my third time using TaxFreeUSA. I've never had issues with them until this year; the UI is good, makes taxes easier. But they messed up BIG TIME with my return this year. After filing and putting in the same exact bank info I used last year for direct deposit, I find out that there's an entirely different bank account on this year's return from a bank I've never used. Tried to speak to FTUSA support, they said call the IRS. Called the IRS, they said call the bank of the account on the return. Called the bank, they sent me to a robot that asked for my ssn which didn't work, and it's just an endless struggle to get MY money!! My suspicion is that FTUSA has some new AI in their system that messed up my return, or maybe one of their employees straight up stole my money. Who knows. Never using them again after this.Unlike what TFUSA suggests, I did NOT choose to pay for services with my refund; I paid in full and chose direct deposit.

The software is cheaper but is super glitchey. I had income tax being paid in two states with a w-2 showing as such. What a nightmare. The "delux support" is not very delux . These people can only help you with the software NOT tax questions. My taxes aren't super complicated. I spent 3x the amount of time doing my taxes than I normally do with my previous years. I would rather spend the additional money and spend a lot less time.

I filled out all the information correctly twice. They email me and stated my one entry for gross income was not correct with their records. This is the first and Last time I use this bizarre online company, cause I did it twice with the same results.

After filing through Turbotax for 15 years and finally tiring of their nonstop upselling and rude customer service, I was looking for a new tax prep service in 2026. I first went to H&R Block and when I tried to downgrade (they stuck me into a premium option), they erased every single datapoint in my return. Hours of work gone and customer service was unavailable. They were like a clone of Turbotax. I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of using FreeTaxUSA. The result of my return was EXACTLY THE SAME as H&R Block, and I literally saved over $100. It took me less than two hours to file my taxes and I'm done. No upsells. No delayed confirmations to sell you a Credit Karma membership, only efficient service. I am sure of two things: Firstly, many of the negative reviews here are from other competing companies. Word has gotten out that there is a better option. And secondly, H&R Block and Turbotax no longer feel beholden to the FTC or courts to stop their manipulative practices. In this kind of environment, FreeTaxUSA is a breath of fresh air.

Received letter from IRS that my banking info is invalid and needs to be fixed to proceed the payment, but all return transactions have been successfully done on day of file submission. So, tried to find a contact info and found that the website doesn't have any. In case THEY made an errors/mistake and you need to conversate to them; there is only one way to reach, you have to upgrade to Deluxe version :( . Also, the calculation IS NOT accurately. Added the same form into two different files and got two different results. Disappointed.

It’s tax season, and I ran into a big problem with FreeTaxUSA. Their app failed to identify Paid Family Leave (PFL) as non-taxable in California, which led to an incorrect tax calculation. I discovered the mistake by verifying my return with another app, which caught the error with no extra effort. I requested a free amendment, but they did not offer one, and now I’m reconsidering using them for future years.

Why on earth would an American taxpayer (with a fairly simple return, like the vast majority of us) use anything else? Just finished my 2025 return, and I found the FreeTaxUSA program clear, easy to follow, easy to understand, and accurate. Free for the Federal return; $15.99 for the state. How is TurboTax (about $130) any better than this? Answer: it's not. Try FreeTaxUSA.
