Super simple to do both state and federal! I originally gave a poor rating because the state filing requested additional paperwork from me and I thought it was a big issue, but they just needed a copy of my W2 form.

Got my return accepted but then had trouble accessing my refund. I couldn't find any method to contact the company for help with the issue. While I liked how they structured the tax process, not being able to reach someone could cost me the refund. I really need a phone option since I don't use a cell phone or smartphone.

I'd say 3.5 stars is fair. Overall it's serviceable, but there's one area that really gets under my skin. My household is split between Illinois and Indiana for work purposes, and dealing with the state tax credit is a nightmare. When I used TurboTax, they'd calculate it for me and say something like you're all set, here's your Indiana credit and we've plugged it into your Illinois return. FreeTaxUSA makes it needlessly confusing with their wording, so figuring out the credit turns into a frustrating puzzle. They don't spell out that you should complete one state first then transfer the number over. The terminology they use is so unclear, and honestly I spend each year digging through my old returns to find what number I previously entered. Even a simple statement like complete your other state first then take line number X and put it on line Y would help tons. Software should be usable by everyday people, but between the unnecessary fees of TurboTax and the poor guidance here, I'm not thrilled either way.

Absolutely useless experience. Forms were submitted to the IRS completely blank even though I entered all the data. The data never transferred to the actual return document. Couldn't modify my banking information. Had no way to review the final form before submitting. Didn't even require a signature. They're pushing support packages that are basically worthless.
