SCAM: Don't risk it for a low price

I used Goldcar due to their low prices. Low prices, however, don't count if you then charge the customer randomly. We returned from our trip and I was met with a bill for over £200 for going hundreds of miles over the mileage allowance. We had barely driven as the main point of the car was to get us from Madrid to Toledo and back. I sent them a long email stating all of the distances which they then, slowly, replied to saying that they would refund the amount. Of course, £5 wasn't refunded which I imagine is due to conversion rates. That was months ago (October), this week (April), I found that they had taken £183 from my account. I haven't, nor would I, book with them again. My bank have also now charged me a fee for a purchase with foreign currency. I have emailed and still, 4 days later, not heard anything back.AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! The low rates are just not worth it!

Terrifying company

I returned the car to Goldcar Barcelona Airport Terminal, and an aggressive man (Indian/Morrocan? 50+), said it was damaged and I have to pay. I showed him a picture and explained it was prior damage and he refused to accept it. He then threatened to ban me permanently from ever using Goldcar or it's partner firms again.

Reservation CJT201478869

Reservation CJT201478869: I informed CarJet in advance (March 25) about a serious family accident and requested only a change of pickup date (March 31 → April 4), keeping the same return date.Despite this, Goldcar treated the case as a “no-show” and offered no solution. This is unfair and unprofessional. The case has been escalated to the European Consumer Centre.

This is by far the worst company ever

Was at Goldcar Barcelona Airport terminal 1. The worst experience ever. I used the middle name on my passport to book. Which I have done always and never had problems with car rentals or even flights in Europe. But no, they could not change it since I arrived five minutes after the starting time. So I could not get the car. We had kids with us and it was late in the evening. They couldn’t care less. We had to pay for a complete new rental, which, of course we took from another rental at the airport.

Poor experience with this company

We booked via Easyjet and paid a special insurance premium to reduce the excess. At the airport we had to collect a ticket and wait for our number to be called. There were five empty desks with staff doing nothing but we were kept waiting for fifteen minutes while they chatted amongst themselves. We could have paid cEuro40 to jump the queue - but there was no reason for a queue as there were more staff than customers (there were just 2 in front of us in the queue). They then wanted us to pay extra insurance and were angry when we said we'd already got insurance to cover the excess. When we got to our car, it was covered in scratches. Literally everywhere. All marked on the paperwork but it made it quite stressful. Then the car had a warning light flashing saying it was low in Urea. So we had to find someone in the big car park to report this to - in the event they gave us a different car. The new car to be fair was excellent and the lady in car park office was very helpful.

DON’T USE

DON’T USE. Bunch of scammers. Car hired very poor condition. Dents scratches all over car. Reported to reception and told to take video which I had already done before opening car. Told after retuned home of big dent on wing. But showed up on video. They still tried to claim. Scammers beware.

Designed to disadvantage the customer

Some business models aren’t broken. They’re designed to exploit the customer.Last week I hired a car from Goldcar Rental in France. At pickup, the damage sheet listed 21 separate areas of existing damage.Twenty one.I checked the car as best I could, but when everything is already “damaged”, it becomes almost impossible to verify what matters. I still found three additional issues they’d missed, including a large scrape on the front corner. Two days later at return, they flagged a scratch on one wheel.I had a video from pickup showing it was already there.“Sorry, we don’t accept videos.”They also take automatic photos as you leave the car park.“Sorry, those are for internal use only.”So the only options are:Pay €330.19 for a scratched alloy, or let them claim it from the excess insurance. At that point you realise the game.If a customer is expected to validate 21+ damage points up front, while the company controls all the evidence on return, the outcome is predictable. And if you think this is a one-off, go read the reviews. This isn’t a mistake. It’s a model.

Unacceptable Experience – Avoid Goldcar

My experience with Goldcar was extremely disappointing and frustrating. I prepaid online for a 2-day car rental, but upon arrival, they refused to give me the car, claiming that my driving license was not international.Despite not receiving the vehicle at all, my credit card was still charged in full. Being charged for a service that was never provided is completely unacceptable. Total Disappointment with Goldcar Rental. It honestly felt like they were looking for any excuse to deny the rental rather than assist a paying customer. This kind of practice is highly unprofessional and leaves a very negative impression. In contrast, I went to Locauto, where the staff were friendly, professional, and efficient. They handled everything smoothly and restored my confidence in car rental services.I strongly advise others to be cautious when dealing with Goldcar.

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with Goldcar in Tenerife. When I arrived to pick up the car I had already paid for, I was refused the vehicle because I do not have a European driving licence. This requirement was never clearly communicated during the booking process, which made the situation extremely frustrating and unfair.I’ve rented cars many times in Spain with different companies and have never had this kind of issue before, which makes this situation even more surprising and frustrating. After traveling and planning my trip around having a rental car, being denied at the counter left me stranded and forced to make last-minute, more expensive alternative arrangements. What makes the experience worse is the lack of flexibility or customer support on-site. There was no attempt to offer a solution, clarification, or even proper guidance—just a flat refusal. If this is a strict requirement, it should be clearly stated upfront before payment is taken. Customers should not discover this only upon arrival.Overall, very poor customer experience. I would strongly recommend double-checking all conditions—or choosing a different rental company altogether.
