McAlister’s Deli Reviews
McAlister's Deli receives sharply divided reviews, rated 2.8 out of 5 by 24 shoppers. Positive reviewers praise the food quality and service, highlighting items like the Mardi Gras cookie and chicken tortilla soup as standout menu choices. However, the majority of recent feedback focuses on significant operational and quality control issues: portion sizes are described as inadequate relative to price (sandwiches with minimal fillings for over $16), pickup orders are frequently delayed by 15 to 20 minutes despite quoted times, and missing or stale items in takeout orders are common complaints. Customers report frustration with staff accountability and unwillingness to remedy mistakes.
Additional complaints include a disappointing rewards program that purges accumulated points after one year of inactivity, which some customers view as unfair. The disconnect between promised service times and actual wait times appears to be a recurring operational problem, particularly during evening hours. While some diners find value in menu offerings and service quality, the pattern of execution failures, portion concerns, and customer service response issues has left many recent customers dissatisfied.
Ordered a half sandwich with soup and was really let down. The sandwich was literally just a tiny piece of croissant - so small they had to cut the tomato in half to fit it. There were only 3 pieces of lettuce, barely bigger than parsley, and maybe half a tablespoon of chicken salad. I paid over $16 including the drink. Would get better value at another chain.
The food and service were both excellent today. The real highlight though was the Mardi Gras cookie - really special. Hope they keep that one available.
I want to talk about my experience with their rewards program, which was really disappointing. I had built up close to 2,000 points over time from occasional visits, mainly when I'm craving their chicken tortilla soup. When I finally checked the app to cash in my points, they had completely disappeared because I hadn't visited in a year. A lot of people hang onto reward points for tough times, especially during the holidays when money is tight with bills, gifts, and gas. Other restaurants let you keep your points, but not this place - they just wipe them out if you don't come in frequently enough. That defeats the whole purpose of a loyalty program for people who visit once in a while. This experience has been a letdown, and I think customers should know that your points will disappear when you might need them most. I can't suggest their rewards program.
Ordered my pickup for 6:47 and when I arrived and asked about it, they said five minutes. Five minutes came and went, then ten minutes, and when I asked again they said five minutes again. I finally got my order at 7:05. Every evening I go there, the orders are never ready. Since I rely on deliveries for work, I need orders to be on time or close to it. They straight up lied to me multiple times. During the day and earlier shifts everything is fine, but evening pickups always have a 10 to 20 minute wait. I won't be picking up from here during evening hours ever again.
Placed a takeout order and when I got home, I discovered that part of what I paid for wasn't in the bag - specifically 2 potato salads and pickle spears. I called the store and spoke with a manager who blamed everything except her own team. She mentioned being short staffed, which to me is a management issue. They wanted me to drive all the way back to get the missing items, which I refused to do. I'd already paid $38 so they got their money. This place has lost my business. I'd rather go somewhere that treats customers fairly.
Had a terrible experience at this restaurant. My husband picked up his salad only to discover when he got home that it was stale and had no meat in it whatsoever. When he went back to complain and show them the untouched salads, they refused to fix it or offer any replacement. It's unacceptable to serve food that looks like it's been sitting around or possibly even sent back from another table. The way they handled this was totally disrespectful and careless. We won't return and would suggest others look elsewhere.
Placed an order at 6:04 in the evening and got a message saying it would arrive at 6:58. Then I got another message pushing it to 7:04, then 7:12, then I got three more texts saying different arrival times with the last one being 7:45. Right after that, I got a message that the whole order was cancelled at 7:29. This was completely unacceptable. I called the restaurant to confirm my card would be refunded and to find out what happened. A female manager answered but spoke her name so quickly I missed it. I explained the situation and she told me I must have used a delivery app, not their website, and that's why it was cancelled. I told her I absolutely used their website and could see the order right there on my computer. She said she'd check their system and call me back. When she did, she claimed it was a system glitch. I don't understand why I got blamed for their mistake. She offered me a free entree or a refund.
The chili was terrible and the club sandwich was just okay. There were workers just standing around with nothing to do but it still took 13 minutes to make a single sandwich.
Had an issue with the salad and the person serving us wasn't very friendly about it.
Stopped by on July 17 and grabbed a tea that was fantastic. The cashier Melissa was outstanding - she really took time to describe all the flavors and tell me about the new mango tea. Great overall experience and we'll definitely be back.
Just went to the location near Culebra and had an amazing time. The food was tasty and the staff including the manager were super helpful and courteous. But seriously, the Peach Mango drink is incredible. If you love peach flavors, you have to try it. They should keep that on the menu year round.
Went in Monday evening between 8 and 10pm to pick up an order and the manager on duty was really hostile. She was throwing food down at the kitchen window and told someone standing with me that they weren't allowed to be there, even though they were just waiting with me. The whole vibe was unwelcoming and she said things that had no business being said. The person was only standing there waiting on a delivery app order. Now I'm blocked and probably won't get orders from there anymore because of how that manager acted. I won't be ordering here after that experience.
Really disappointed with my visit. I got the Southwest Chicken & Avocado Salad and was surprised to find the chicken came frozen solid, and the whole salad was ice cold. The description doesn't mention this at all. When I tried talking to someone at the register about it, they just walked away without listening. Don't waste your money at this location.
We paid extra to get more meat on our sandwiches but ended up with less than usual. We complained about this same issue at a different location years ago and got nowhere. We thought maybe things had improved, but they didn't. Their response was just excuses and dodging responsibility instead of actually trying to help. That was it for us as customers. The owner said to come in without ordering online and he'd give us some free cake, but that's not what we wanted.
Ordered online and picked up in store, but didn't check the bag right away and we were missing a sandwich and toppings for the ultimate nachos. That's partially on us for not checking, but they should be double-checking outgoing orders too. I called immediately and the manager said to bring in the receipt and they'd give store credit. I wanted a refund for the missing items instead. The next day I brought the receipt with the manager's name written on it. When I asked for that manager, some employee came up without even saying hello. Turns out his name was José or something. He refunded me for the sandwich and regular nachos but when I mentioned I ordered ultimate nachos and paid for those specifically, he shorted me. He only reimbursed me 15 cents less than what I should have gotten, and didn't include the tax for the two items. I wasn't asking for the whole order back, just what I paid for that I didn't get. Mistakes happen but the overall experience showed me poor customer service skills. They need better trained staff.
