Holland America Line Savings Hacks
Holland America Line typically offers deeper discounts and onboard credits during wave season (January through March). Monitor RetailCoupons.com during these months for limited-time promotions on early cruise bookings.
Some offers provide cash discounts while others provide onboard spending credits. Calculate which offer saves you the most money based on your planned activities and dining choices during the cruise.
Returning cruisers may qualify for additional savings through Holland America Line's loyalty program. Confirm whether your booking qualifies for both a promo code discount and loyalty benefits before finalizing your purchase.
Some vacation packages include flights, ground transportation, and pre- or post-cruise hotel stays. Bundling these services through Holland America Line may offer better value than booking separately and applying a single promo code.

Holland America Line Reviews
Holland America Line inspires strong and polarized opinions among cruisers. Repeat customers consistently praise the attentive cabin staff, who excel at daily cleaning, personalized service, and remembering guest preferences. Customer service representatives also receive high marks for their patience, clear communication, and willingness to resolve issues thoroughly. The dining experience is frequently highlighted as excellent, with quality food and diverse menu options. However, some guests express frustration with pricing practices, particularly regarding special sale brochures that advertise exclusive rates that may not materialize as promised. A small number of reviewers have noted inconsistent enforcement of onboard policies, such as dress codes in the dining room.
The rating distribution reveals a bimodal pattern, with majorities at both the highest and lowest ends of the scale. Many guests who return for multiple voyages report consistently positive experiences, while others encounter specific booking or service issues that significantly impact their satisfaction. Crew attentiveness and the quality of cabin maintenance appear to be deciding factors in whether guests recommend the line and book future voyages.
I regularly get mailed Special Sale brochures from Holland America since I'm a repeat customer. These supposedly feature exclusive pricing not available anywhere else. When one of these special offers arrived, I saw a cruise with an attractive price and decided to book it the same day. I called Holland America to complete the reservation, only to find the per-person price had jumped by $185 since the brochure was printed. This clearly shows Holland America is using dishonest tactics. The company points to small print saying prices are subject to availability as their defense, but that's not how this works. They advertise attractive fares to get people interested, then change the price when you actually try to buy. I understand fares selling out by the end of a sale period, but when they're unavailable from day one, that's deceptive marketing. Holland America should be ashamed of using these underhanded sales methods.
We called customer service because we needed help getting the right papers after changing our cabin. The representative who helped us was fantastic. She paid close attention to what we said, spoke clear English that was easy to follow even for folks our age, answered every question, stayed friendly the whole time, and sent us everything we needed by email. She showed genuine professionalism at a time when customer service is often disappointing. This is our first time cruising with Holland America, but if the crew onboard provides anywhere near the quality of service she did, we'll be coming back year after year.
My spouse and I completed an 11-day cruise and felt let down by how loosely the dining room dress code was enforced. People showed up in t-shirts, baseball hats, and jeans regularly, yet no staff members ever stopped them at the entrance. This happened repeatedly since we ate dinner in the dining room every single evening. As a two-star mariner loyalty member, I'm seriously reconsidering whether to book future voyages with them.
Walking aboard the ship, we were welcomed with genuine care and consideration at every step. Our cabin attendants deserve special mention for going above and beyond every single day. The stateroom received thorough cleaning and upkeep three times per day, with everything kept fresh and perfectly arranged. They regularly refilled our mini bar with items we enjoyed, anticipated our needs, and offered kindness that felt like being looked after by loved ones. Their attention to detail, professionalism, and kind nature truly transformed our vacation into something truly exceptional. Holland America should be proud of staff members like these who represent their commitment to hospitality. They made what could have been a nice trip into something we'll treasure forever. We're already excited to book our next voyage with you. Thank you for creating such wonderful service.
From the moment we walked onto the ship, we felt genuinely valued and well cared for. I have to give special recognition to our room attendants, who truly went the extra mile daily. They cleaned and refreshed our cabin three times each day with meticulous attention, kept our fridge stocked with drinks we liked, remembered what we preferred, and treated us with such genuine kindness it felt like family. Their skill, warmth, and thoughtful approach made the whole trip feel special and relaxing. Holland America deserves credit for having such dedicated people on their team. This vacation was truly unforgettable, and we're eager to sail with them again. Thank you for setting such high standards of hospitality.
Our fourth voyage with Holland America has been just as enjoyable as our previous trips. Everything about it works well, from how we're treated to the crew to the quality of the dining experience. It's so hard to pick between appetizers and entrees because they all sound delicious. The chef from Poland really impressed us with his cooking abilities. Such a positive experience overall.
This was our third trip with Holland America and we still love every minute. The whole experience stands out, especially the service, crew interactions, and dining options. Picking what to order is tough when every appetizer and entree on the menu looks incredible. The chef from Poland created truly impressive dishes that showed real skill. Really wonderful experience overall.
Booked a large family trip to Alaska for nine people that cost $50K with flights included. Between booking and departure, there were roughly six flight changes made by Holland America or the airlines. When we arrived at the airport before dawn, a couple of our group didn't have their airline tickets despite receiving multiple flight confirmations via email. After waiting for staff to show up and speaking with several people, we learned we'd need to purchase same-day replacement flights for those two passengers and submit a reimbursement claim. This ran us $1600 out of pocket. I gathered all the required documentation for the claim and submitted it, only to have it rejected. I will never book with them again and can't in good conscience recommend they take this gamble.
My mother sailed with them and became seriously ill aboard. She couldn't reach the doctor before the medical office shut down for the day. She requested assistance multiple times and was turned away. She remained unwell throughout the voyage. Only after returning home did she learn she'd suffered a heart attack while on the ship and needed extensive hospital care to recover. I'm shocked at how little they do for sick passengers and how reluctant they are to help someone reach medical care for something so life-threatening. We submitted a formal complaint with follow-ups and never got any response whatsoever. I can't recommend booking with them, and my mother is fortunate to have survived. Their approach to passenger welfare and customer service is simply nonexistent.
I need to share my serious concerns about a recent interaction involving a cruise from Greece that was set to end in Florida. A colleague had booked this voyage but realized he could save time and hassle by boarding at the next port of call, just two days into the journey. When he contacted customer service, the call stretched nearly two hours. He was quoted a fee of 750 euros to make this adjustment. Following extensive back-and-forth discussions, they eventually dropped the charge to 250 euros. This situation raises troubling questions. What kind of legitimate travel company charges such an unreasonable fee for just skipping the initial two days? How can an initial 750-euro charge suddenly become 250 euros if not because the original amount was artificially inflated? The amount of time and effort needed to reach any kind of acceptable solution is unacceptable. As someone who has traveled with Holland America many times before, I expected far better professionalism, honesty, and responsiveness. This experience has seriously damaged my confidence in the company.
We just completed our first journey with Holland America, sailing from Sydney to Auckland, and we were impressed. The level of service was exceptional, the meals were excellent, the crew members provided outstanding support across the board, and we were well-entertained. I would definitely recommend Holland America to anyone considering a cruise.
Recently sailed from Sydney to Auckland on one of their ships for the first time, and it was wonderful. The service was outstanding, meals were tasty, crew members gave extra effort in every area, and the shows kept us entertained. I'd definitely recommend Holland America to anyone thinking about cruising.
I booked a lengthy cruise spanning five months, and the onboard credit advisor misled me on two different matters. First, he promised that my onboard credit would increase to $700 because I was traveling solo. When I specifically asked him to show me where this was stated in writing, he said I'd see it on my confirmation documents. I never did. The actual confirmation showed only $600 in onboard credit. Getting that corrected required spending over two hours on the phone with three different representatives, and they still wouldn't honor the verbal agreement. Second, he told me Holland America matches prices from travel agencies. I found a better deal elsewhere with an additional $1200 onboard credit, called Holland America, and learned they actually don't match prices. That conversation ate up another two hours. The message is clear: Future Cruise Consultants will say whatever they want. Always request everything in writing before you walk away from their desk. Otherwise you'll waste several hours and leave with a migraine.
This was the worst cruise I've taken. I've done 8 other trips this year that were significantly better. The room technology wasn't functioning properly, the cold dishes were disappointing, and I got food poisoning.
