Equipment shipping policies and costs vary by order type, so confirm details before finalizing your purchase.
DISH Returns & Refund Policy
Return policies for DISH equipment and services follow specific terms that may vary depending on whether you are activating a new service or returning equipment. DISH Reviews
DISH shoppers are deeply divided. Sixty percent of reviewers give five-star ratings, suggesting satisfaction among some customers. However, thirty-five percent rate the service one star, with recurring complaints centered on billing practices: long-term customers report unexpected price increases, nonsensical charges, and the feeling that loyal patrons are penalized while new customers receive promotional discounts. Customer service frustrations also appear frequently, with shoppers citing difficulty reaching knowledgeable representatives, overseas call routing, and unresponsive support when addressing billing disputes.
Additional concerns include service interruption without proper notice (one reviewer reported immediate disconnection despite a two-week notice period) and challenges obtaining information about newer service offerings like Starlink integration. The sharp polarization in ratings suggests DISH delivers adequate service to some but struggles with billing transparency, customer retention practices, and service responsiveness for others.
I called DISH based on their own ads that mentioned they were working together with Starlink. Since I live in a rural part of Texas, this seemed like a big opportunity so I wanted to check if it was available for me. As soon as I said Starlink, the person helping me said she didn't have that option showing and put me on hold. When she came back, she said the same thing and added that Starlink is pretty pricey. Then immediately she tried to sell me on Viasat, which is apparently one of DISH's regular partner companies. The thing is I had the DISH website right there and I was looking at the exact page advertising DISH and Starlink together while she was telling me it doesn't exist. For people who don't know about satellite internet, here's what DISH glosses over: Viasat and HughesNet use old school satellites that sit way out at 22,000 miles above Earth, which creates tons of delay and makes things like video calls, work from home software, cloud programs, and anything online basically impossible to use without problems. These also come with data restrictions and you have to sign long contracts. Starlink uses newer satellites only 340 miles up in the sky, which means way less delay and a way better experience.
I've stuck with DISH for 25 years and now they're trying to charge me crazy amounts. All they seem to want to do is sell me stuff and honestly it's made me upset for the first time. I might actually cancel when my contract is up. I already downgraded my channels not long ago when I shouldn't have had to do that. New people signing up get way cheaper rates locked in for two years plus free equipment, but loyal customers like me get squeezed. It's not fair at all. DISH gets one star from me and I plan on posting reviews about this everywhere. It takes a lot to get me this annoyed but this situation pushed me there.
I've been with DISH for 35 years but every couple of months they're trying to bump up my bill with charges that don't make sense. I call them all the time about it and it's exhausting. After 35 years of paying for their service, this isn't how you treat loyal customers. They route all their calls overseas now to people you can barely understand which makes everything frustrating. I called yesterday and they promised to fix it and give me credits but like always, nothing actually gets done. You end up spending hours dealing with this stuff. Honestly there are way better TV providers out there and I'm thinking of leaving after all these years. They clearly don't value loyalty anymore and it's pretty disappointing for an American company to outsource their whole customer service to people who can't even speak the language clearly. Save yourself the headache and go with someone else.
I called to cancel my service for the end of my billing cycle which was two weeks away. Instead of waiting, they shut off everything right away without asking me. When I called back they said there was nothing they could do about it and I'd get a credit for those two weeks within three days. They also mentioned there'd be a twenty five dollar fee for returning the equipment. I shipped everything back as soon as I got the return kit and got confirmation that DISH received it. My billing cycle was supposed to end in late November but they turned me off early in November and I never received my refund. I feel like I got taken advantage of and I definitely wouldn't tell anyone to use DISH.
I've been loyal to DISH for over 20 years but the way they handled my problem recently was honestly the worst customer service I've experienced with them. DISH's own equipment suddenly wouldn't let me access years of recordings I had saved on an external USB drive that DISH themselves recommended buying. The drive worked fine until one day it just quit and gave an error saying it was set up for a different account, which doesn't even make sense since I never used it anywhere else. This had to be a DISH system error on their end. When I called customer support, the first rep said they'd get engineering involved. Three months went by without anyone reaching out. I called back and got someone else who didn't want to do anything about the escalation, didn't offer solutions, and just kept saying we're still giving you service like that makes up for losing all my recordings I paid for. DISH brags about their BBB rating but that's only because they respond to complaints, not because they actually fix anything. Their real rating shows up in the customer reviews where they get 1.11 out of 5 stars with nearly a thousand reviews, which tells you way more about how they treat people.
DISH as a company could be better, but I have to give major props to the technician who came to my place here in Florida. This guy went way above and beyond what he needed to do. I'd absolutely recommend him for any DISH work. Unfortunately I never got the survey DISH was supposed to send so I couldn't let management know how great he was through the official channels. I really hope they see this. This technician deserves recognition and a promotion. He wouldn't leave until everything was working perfectly. Two other techs had already tried and failed, but he got it done. I wish there was a way to ask for him specifically whenever I need work done.
We had trouble with DISH and called them several times about it. They sent out one technician who put in a lot of effort but couldn't figure it out, so he called another tech to come help out. The second guy solved it pretty quickly. Both of these guys were friendly and clearly knew what they were doing. The phone support was weird because you'd get different answers from different people each time you called. When you actually get someone out to your home for a problem that can't be fixed over the phone, that's when things get resolved.
From the moment we started with them, the customer service has been five star quality. We've been DISH customers for ten years now and we're in a rural area but we've loved them from day one. They actually listen to you, they work honestly with you to solve issues, and their team members really know what they're doing.
The technician called ahead to let me know when he'd show up for the internet setup. Super knowledgeable guy and he helped me get all my wireless devices connected without any issues. Really solid service and I'm really pleased with it. The speed is way better than what I had with my old internet company.
Can't ask for more than reliable and professional people providing your service.
One of the best parts about DISH is being able to stream shows on my iPhone and iPad wherever I go. HopperGo is fantastic because I can watch my movies and shows no matter where I am. It's such a cool feature to have that kind of flexibility.
The new DISH setup we have gives us so much more compared to what we had before with the other company. We're running three TVs now instead of two. We got real HD instead of standard definition. The Hopper 3 DVR is a huge upgrade since we didn't have one at all. The service is better, the equipment is better, and we're paying less than before. We're really satisfied with everything about our DISH system.
I'm really impressed with DISH. The product does exactly what they say it will do. The interface is user friendly and the picture quality is fantastic, but what really made me a fan was our installation experience. The installer was absolutely top notch. He showed up on time, acted professionally and was super courteous. He explained what we needed, did a perfect installation the first try, and cleaned up real well after himself. If DISH keeps hiring people like him, they're going to stay on top in the satellite TV business. I don't know if you can pick your installer but honestly if you could you should try to get this person or someone trained by him. DISH is doing things right.
