Monro Muffler Brake has a deeply divided customer base, with ratings clustered at opposite extremes. Shoppers who had positive experiences praise individual staff members by name for going above and beyond, including emergency tire assistance on weekends and quick, helpful service on repair work. However, the majority of reviewers report serious concerns about pricing that they describe as significantly higher than competitors, customer service issues including long hold times and difficulty reaching managers, and troubling practices such as alleged retaliation after complaints. Some customers also experienced inventory problems and difficulty redeeming advertised promotions.

The polarized feedback suggests that service quality varies substantially by location and individual employee, with some Monro locations delivering exceptional customer care while others leave shoppers feeling overcharged and poorly treated. Concerns about pricing transparency, complaint handling, and company-level customer service appear in multiple reviews and represent the primary barriers to recommendation for many customers.

I strongly advise staying away from this shop. From the store staff to corporate management, they operate like scammers. When I tried calling to discuss my concerns, I got put on hold for about 10 minutes before being disconnected. I spent an hour on the phone attempting to reach a manager and kept getting the runaround. Beyond the poor customer service, their prices are outrageous for standard repairs. I was told brake work costs $500 per axle, which is ridiculous. The employees were also rude and dismissive toward customers. They held my keys until I paid and I felt pressured to hand over money. Don't go here.

I got a flat tire while driving on Interstate 90 heading from Cleveland to Buffalo on a Sunday afternoon. My spare tire wasn't going to get me the remaining two hours safely. I started calling around frantically to see if any tire shops would help me just before closing. Most said no. Then I reached Matt at the Peach Street location. He immediately said bring it over. I arrived about 10 minutes before they closed, expecting just to buy a tire to limp along. Instead, Matt and Paul stopped everything they were doing to assist me. They plugged my tire so I didn't have to replace it, saving me hundreds of dollars. As a bonus, they came out after closing and installed it on my car for me. Without their help, I would've missed an important medical appointment for my father the next morning in Buffalo. These two showed incredible kindness and professionalism.

Just moved to Rhode Island and needed muffler work done. Paul and Scotty at the Broadway location in East Providence went above and beyond to help me out. They installed the necessary brackets quickly and got me back on the road. Top-notch service from start to finish.

Be very careful doing business with this company. We had to file a complaint with the NYS DMV to recover repair costs from damage they caused. After we received reimbursement, they retaliated by reporting the check to the IRS as if it were employment income or self-employment compensation. Now I'm dealing with the IRS while trying to explain that I was never employed by this company and shouldn't have received a 1099-NEC form from them.

The staff at my local Monro was friendly and respectful when I declined their estimate. That said, their pricing was way out of line. They wanted $150 per ball joint, $226 for a tie rod end, and $233 each for control arms, plus $500 in labor for work they admitted would take one person half a day. I ended up ordering all the parts online for $400 and did the work myself with a family member. The total estimate from Monro was $1,800 for the same job. I saved $1,400 by going another route and won't be giving Monro my business anymore.

This experience has been frustrating from the start. I selected specific tires I wanted and booked an appointment. When I arrived, they only had three of the tires I chose, so I couldn't take advantage of their special deal. The clerk mentioned a Black Friday offer that included a free alignment if I switched to a different tire brand, and I agreed. We scheduled the work for a later date. At my appointment, after waiting half an hour, the mechanic said they'd ordered the wrong tires and wanted to charge me more for a different set. I refused and asked them to put my original tires back on. He did agree to honor the original quoted price if we order the correct tires. I'm holding them to that promise and expect this to be made right.

Took my wife's 2016 Jeep Cherokee here because the exhaust was getting louder. I identified that the flex pipe from the manifold was leaking and they replaced it. Everything was good until a few months later when the same pipe started leaking again. I called and was told there had been some bad exhaust parts from their supplier and they'd replace it under warranty on Monday. Tuesday afternoon the manager called saying the repair would cost $394, which is $50 more than the original repair, and the pipe supposedly wasn't supposed to be covered. I picked up the car and took it elsewhere. I have both receipts showing what happened. I work in service too and always make a point to steer customers away from shops that treat people this way. I've also reached out to the district manager with no response.

My daughter took her car to a Monro location and was told she needed a complete exhaust system replacement for $4,000. They claimed to have found serious issues requiring the whole system. She decided to get a second opinion from a Mitsubishi dealership. They examined the vehicle and told her absolutely no need to replace the entire system. While she waited, they fixed just the muffler for $258. That's a massive difference from $4,000. I'd seriously reconsider before trusting Monro with your car repairs.

Paid $549 for new rear brakes and rotors at Shop 565. When I inspected the work, I found multiple issues. The right rear caliper bracket bolt was missing and the other was loose. All of my original hardware was reinstalled. Two shims were missing from the left rear. The bolts were covered in lube but no threadlocker was applied. The driver side rear bolts were loose too. The upper guide pin on the left rear was completely dry with no lubrication. None of the pad shims were properly aligned. My regular mechanic was shocked when he saw this work. I spoke with Ray, the manager, and got no apology or acceptance of responsibility. Very disappointed with the quality.

Don't go to this shop. I'd brought my spare vehicle here before without problems, but this time was different. The car sits most of the year with only about 3,000 miles annually and has newer brakes and tires on it. During the inspection, they only removed the left side tires and then dropped the car down again. They refused to complete the inspection unless I bought their Trico Pro wiper blades, even though I had just installed Trico Platinum blades three months earlier that work perfectly fine. I work in the automotive industry and for the DOT, and I've never experienced such an unprofessional inspection. It's clear they push upsells because they don't make money on state inspections. I won't be returning to this West Seneca location.

My experience at the Wexford location was terrible. They did an inspection on my wife's 2016 Hyundai Tucson, which has just 39,000 miles. They tried to pressure her into replacing the front brake pads even though we'd replaced them only a year ago. She was told either new pads or no sticker. I called to ask about pricing for two front pads plus labor and they offered three options: Silver at $139 with no warranty, Gold at $199 with a one year warranty, or Platinum at $239 with a lifetime warranty. I told them to go with the Silver package. Two minutes later the manager called back questioning whether I understood there was no warranty. I said yes and confirmed Silver. Then he said they couldn't stock the low quality pads in the Silver package and would only keep the Platinum pads in stock. Silver and Gold would have to be ordered, meaning the inspection would fail until we upgraded to Platinum. Basically they're forcing customers into their most expensive option by claiming they can't keep the cheaper options available.

Had a great experience at the Saugerties location. The mechanics did excellent work and the customer service was fantastic. I'd definitely recommend this shop to anyone needing auto repair work done.

Had to get brake work done at a local Monro because my brakes were grinding and other shops were booked up. They said they'd need until Saturday to finish, which was fine since I had somewhere to be. When I picked up the car on Sunday, they'd charged me almost $135 for a brake fluid exchange that I never asked for or approved. The manager told me it would help the system and extend the warranty, but there was absolutely no reason to do that work on my 2018 Equinox. I'm frustrated about being charged for services I didn't authorize and won't be returning to Monro.
