What Shoppers Say About Dr. Harveys
Dr. Harveys dog food receives highly polarized reviews, with 8 shoppers rating it 3.6 out of 5. Many satisfied customers report significant improvements in their dogs' health and energy levels, with some noting their pets have been eating the brand for years without issues. Customers also appreciate the quality ingredients and customer service when things go smoothly. However, dissatisfied reviewers cite serious concerns including dogs refusing to eat the product, unclear feeding instructions that result in improper meal consistency, and frustration with return policies that charge customers for return shipping despite the advertised 90-day window. Some shoppers also question the ingredient balance and grain content relative to vegetables.
The divided feedback suggests Dr. Harveys may work exceptionally well for some dogs but carries real risk for others. Potential buyers should be confident their pet will accept the food before purchasing, as returns involve unexpected costs. Shoppers should also clarify feeding instructions and ingredient ratios before committing to larger orders, particularly if their dog has specific dietary needs.

Sorted by: Most recentMimi is absolutely crazy about Dr Harvey's Canine Health. She's been eating it because of her kidney issues and even though she's 11 years old, she acts like she's only 2.
I would give zero stars if I could. Don't take the risk with this brand. My dog refused to eat it. They claim a 90 day return window, but surprise, you're paying for shipping back. I shop online regularly and I've never encountered this with any other company. When I pushed back, they just shrugged and said it's their policy. So I'm out $25 in return shipping to get back $59 of my money. That seems crazy to me when they already offer shipping discounts everywhere. I posted a review on their site. Know what happened? It vanished. It's not there. They're actively deleting negative reviews so only good ones stay visible. That doesn't sound like honest feedback to me. I don't trust this company or their product, which honestly looks and smells questionable. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else, because when your dog won't touch it, you'll be stuck holding the bag with no real refund option.
Been feeding this brand to our two adult female French Bulldogs for more than 2 years without any issues. Before this, we struggled with regular dry kibble and also tried another fresh frozen brand that was both inconvenient and pricey. Initially we chose their Limited Ingredient formula while they were puppies, and now that they're full grown we switched to Canine Health. The changeover went smoothly and the dogs go crazy for it. I usually mix in cooked ground turkey or lean beef, and sometimes throw in their dehydrated rabbit treats for extra protein. We add their Health & Shine oil for fat content, which makes the whole approach way more affordable. French Bulldogs tend to have allergies and digestive troubles, but our pair has had zero problems. Both dogs came from different sources, and one had serious ongoing health struggles until suddenly bouncing back after about a year. I really believe this brand made that recovery happen.
Excellent dog food and business overall. I'm surprised by how negative some reviews are here. One commenter got confused about the measurement system, but those are actually little scoops included with the product, not cups. Customer service is top notch. Most orders qualify for free shipping, and when you sign up for regular deliveries you save even more money. I've been buying this for over 2 years now and my dogs have noticeably improved in various ways.
DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU'RE 100% CONFIDENT ABOUT IT. I purchased Canine Health but realized it had way too much grain and not nearly enough vegetables. I ordered Veg to Bowl from their site, but shipping was slow, so I drove 30 minutes to a local retailer to grab a bag so I could return the unopened Veg to Bowl when it finally arrived. Here's my breakdown: The food itself gets 4 stars since I need to combine Canine Health with Veg to Bowl to hit my target grain to vegetable mix. I'm taking away 3 stars because their shipping fee is $5 and they advertise a 90 day no hassle refund policy. I took my unopened food to a shipping location and found out it costs $25 to return a $50 bag. Are you kidding me. Customer service ranges from decent to really short with me. Did anyone on their team mention that they also sell on Amazon with same day delivery, which would have prevented me from ordering twice? Nope. I left a negative comment on their site. Guess what, it never showed up anywhere. Seems like negative comments just disappear, doesn't it?
The feeding instructions seem off. I got a free trial and tried following their guidelines which say '9-18lbs should use 1/4 to 1 cup dry product mixed with 1-2 cups hot water'. I started with 1 cup dry and 1 cup water, but even after waiting the suggested 12 minutes it was way too thin. I had to add more of the dry stuff just to get it closer to regular canned dog food consistency, ending up using about 2 1/4 cups dry to 1 cup water. The bag claims to be 5.5oz of dry mix that makes 1lb of finished food, but that would only work if you're feeding your dog soup. When I sent feedback about this, they basically said use less water. That didn't address the real issue.
This is a completely natural and holistic whole food based approach to pet nutrition. Would definitely suggest it depending on what your particular dog needs health wise.
Outstanding product and really knowledgeable people. After my small dog got diagnosed with stage II chronic kidney disease, I was heartbroken. I wanted to educate myself, so I dug into the research, but the more I learned the more overwhelmed I got. My vet wanted me to use a prescription diet, but I wasn't comfortable with that route. Then I found Dr Harvey's and their dehydrated, human grade option called Canine Miracle Health. They actually give you a sample for just the cost of shipping. One bag was huge, easily enough for more than 48 hours of meals for my 12 pound Shih Tzu. My pup, Chewie, absolutely devoured it and licked the plate clean. The team here is fantastic. When I had questions, a veterinary nutritionist actually called me back. She was super helpful and made me feel confident. That was a year back. Since then, I've stuck with Dr Harvey's exclusively for Chewie. When we did bloodwork to check his kidney function, I was shocked by how good the results were. His kidney levels came back totally normal. I'm really satisfied with what we've been using and incredibly grateful for
