Massage Envy receives sharply divided feedback, with the majority of shoppers reporting serious concerns about business practices and service quality. Common complaints center on aggressive upselling of add-ons and upgrades during sessions, therapists ignoring client requests for massage type and pressure level, sessions running significantly shorter than paid for, and difficulties canceling memberships with reports of continued unauthorized charges and complex paperwork processes. Several reviewers reference class action lawsuits and describe the overall operation as designed to extract additional money from customers.

A smaller segment of satisfied customers praise individual therapist skill and professionalism, noting that when therapists take time to understand specific needs and customize treatment accordingly, the experience can be excellent. These positive reviews highlight personalized attention to problem areas, appropriate pressure technique, and a peaceful physical environment. However, the overwhelming majority of feedback suggests these positive experiences are not the norm, and potential customers should approach with caution regarding membership terms and therapist consistency.

I booked here since my usual spot was fully booked. From the start, the therapist kept trying to sell me on upgrades and add-ons instead of just doing what I paid for. She was pushing deep tissue and hot stones when I clearly said I wanted a basic massage. She started the massage at 7:15 and finished at 7:54 - that's 39 minutes of actual work. When I pointed out I booked 60 minutes, she said it's really 50 minutes plus 10 minutes to change. That's not how other places operate. I get several massages a year so I know the standard. She also did some weird stuff on my face - spreading my frown lines out while I'm clearly annoyed. For what I paid, I got a short session and not much value. This whole experience was frustrating.

Wish I'd read the reviews sooner before signing up. To get out of your membership, they want more money from you. They kept charging an old card I wasn't even using anymore. Then there's a whole paperwork process that seems designed to drag things out and hopefully get them more charges in the meantime. I'm curious if I'll actually get the 5 massages I've already paid for.

I joined at a local location and I have to be honest - this place operates like a scam. There's a reason they've had class action lawsuits filed against them. The staff seems incompetent but I think it's intentional from management to squeeze more money out of customers. They've been charging my card for a membership I've been trying to cancel, and they won't help me do it. I had to contact my bank and block them from taking money. Even if the massages and facials were good, the headache isn't worth it. The company needs serious changes or needs to shut down entirely.

My session was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The therapist took time to understand my specific problem areas and customized everything around my needs - especially the tension in my neck and lower back. His technique was smooth and professional, and he nailed the pressure level I wanted. The space itself is really peaceful with calming music and a pleasant aroma that instantly puts you at ease. He communicated clearly throughout and you can tell he genuinely cares about helping people. I walked out feeling so much better - way less stiffness, better range of motion, and totally rejuvenated. If you want a massage that actually fixes your problem areas while still being super relaxing, this is definitely the place. Highly recommend!

I specifically requested a relaxing massage when I booked and again when I checked in. The therapist ignored my request completely. I had to tell him twice during the session that he was going too deep for what I wanted. Near the end, while I was on my back, he grabbed both my wrists with his hands and pulled hard - hard enough that I slid on the table. Then he did the same thing to my other wrist. I've had around a dozen massages in my life and never experienced anything like it. Pain started in my left shoulder that evening and stuck around for a week. I had to see my doctor and unfortunately I'm looking at shoulder surgery to fix the damage and get feeling back in my arm. People have suggested I talk to a lawyer, but I'm not interested in suing. I just want the pain gone and normal function back. At 75 years old, I don't think I'll be getting another massage. Definitely not coming back here.

I booked a relaxing massage, confirmed it multiple times, and told the therapist exactly what I needed. Instead of keeping it light, he went much deeper than I asked for. I mentioned it twice during the session, but he didn't adjust. Then toward the end, while I was on my back, he suddenly grabbed both my wrists hard and pulled - enough that I slid across the table. He repeated this on the other side. In all my years getting massages, I've never had anything like this happen. I developed severe shoulder pain that night and it lasted for a week before I saw my doctor. I'm facing surgery now and may not regain full feeling in my arm. I've had maybe a dozen massages over the years, but nothing compares to this bad experience. I don't want legal trouble, I just want the pain to stop. At my age, I don't think I'll be back for another massage anywhere.

The front desk staff here really sets the tone for your visit. Their calm demeanor and soothing voices help you start relaxing the moment you walk in. The quiet relaxation room before your massage is a nice touch that adds to the overall calming vibe. The massage therapist I had was also really skilled and made the whole experience top notch.

Before I was stationed overseas, they said my account could be paused and I'd still have access to my 9 hours of massages when I returned. Fast forward and I go to book an appointment, but get notified hours before that my time had expired. They offered to restore the hours only if I reactivated my membership, which seems like a trap if I deploy again and rack up more hours. This policy is really frustrating for military folks like me who need some flexibility and support.

I had an appointment scheduled for 4pm yesterday but an emergency came up. I understood I'd have to pay, but I called the night before and someone said I could bring my gift card in on Monday to cover it. This morning I tried calling several times with no answer. When I finally got through, I got put on hold for over 15 minutes, twice. The manager who picked up said she couldn't accept the gift card because it was the end of a pay period. That makes zero sense - less than 24 hours earlier they said it was fine. I've never heard of such a thing. I have the gift card right here and I'm willing to drive it over. I don't get why I can't use it to pay for the missed appointment. This has been frustrating enough that I've left other reviews, but I'm open to removing them if this gets resolved.

I got a gift card as a wedding present back in 2022 and wanted to check the balance. Both the front desk and manager told me they couldn't look it up because of fraud prevention and safety concerns. They insisted I'd have to come in person to find out how much was on it. That seemed odd so I called a random location in a different state and they gave me the balance no problem. Why the inconsistency? It made me question their policies.

I'm in Maryland and tried two different locations hoping to find a good fit. At the first place, I had three sessions. Two were with the same therapist who had a strong smoke smell that stuck with me during the massage - my face was right down in it. Both times I had to start conversations. The massage itself was decent but she spent way too much time on my neck when my lower back and hips were what actually needed attention. My third massage there was forgettable, except the therapist told me upfront that she doesn't do firm pressure and suggested we cancel if that's what I wanted. At the second location, the therapist spent the whole session trying to recruit me into some business venture that screamed pyramid scheme. It was incredibly uncomfortable. I've got one more location to check out, but if it's anything like these two experiences, I'm done with my membership.

I signed up back in late 2019 because I had a pinched nerve causing horrible pain. After the lockdowns and everything with the pandemic, I didn't think about getting a massage for over three years. When I finally called to cancel, they hit me with this: my 45 accumulated massages would disappear in 60 days unless I kept paying $20 a month. Keep in mind I originally paid $80 a month. So basically they wanted me to spend another $240 just to keep the $3600 worth of sessions I'd already paid for from vanishing. I had to laugh at how ridiculous that was. It's a despicable money grab and honestly made me lose all respect for how they operate.

Had an amazing massage with the therapist here. He's a true pro and knows how to make you feel completely at ease and restored. I'd absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a great experience. Really appreciate the care he puts into his work.

Amazing experience! I had a fantastic visit and can't speak highly enough of the therapist I saw. She really knows her stuff when it comes to skincare - super informative and gives honest feedback. If you're serious about taking care of your skin, I'd definitely recommend asking for her. Great service overall!

My wife has been a loyal member for years and they've consistently impressed us. The facility is always clean and well-maintained. We keep coming back because the quality is reliable. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a good massage place.
