I'm a member at BevMo and really like shopping there. Their clearance wine deals at five cents are fantastic, plus when you grab six bottles you get an extra ten percent off. The final price ends up being way less than half of what's already a fair starting price. Staff has been super helpful every time I've gone in, and walking through the store to check everything out is actually enjoyable.
Had an awful experience that I won't forget. I handed my ID to the cashier when they asked for it, but then they wanted me to scan it too, claiming it was store policy. Here's the thing though - I watched the three people in front of me get through without being asked to do any of that. All of them were white. When I brought this up to the employee, he called for a manager. I didn't feel like sticking around, so I left without buying anything and decided I'm done with this place. Later that day I tried calling the store to talk to someone about what happened. The guy I'd spoken to claimed he was a store manager, said he'd get the actual manager, and then that person just hung up on me. Between the selective treatment and how the staff handled my complaint, I've got zero interest in coming back. It's disappointing to see a business operate like this in 2024.
