We've been loyal customers for close to 40 years. Last weekend I picked up two bags at our local grocery store, a Cafe Blend and a Chicory Coffee. Both were absolutely terrible. When I opened them, there was zero coffee smell. The grounds had this weird dirt-like odor instead. We brewed both and they were just awful, no coffee flavor at all, just a bad taste. What went wrong with this brand?

I purchased the American Classic pre-ground coffee on sale for $4.50 at my local supermarket in a 12 ounce red mylar bag with good freshness dating. It's a medium grind, medium roast made from 100% Arabica but with no origin info provided. Right away I noticed barely any coffee aroma when I opened it. I brewed using my normal 50 grams to 40 ounces of water ratio and got little to no smell during the process. The taste was bitter and astringent with unpleasant mouthfeel and no nice flavor notes. Even adjusting my coffee to water ratio didn't help. This was honestly some of the worst coffee I've ever had. I wouldn't recommend it.

I've been drinking the New Orleans blend with chicory for about two decades now. Something changed with my most recent purchase though. It tastes really weak no matter what I do. I end up needing triple the amount just to get close to how it used to taste, and honestly it still doesn't hit the same. Really disappointed because I loved this coffee.
