We wound up having to pay extra money just to enjoy a beach: $140 for taxi service, $20 for beach access, and around $80 more per person for other activities. Despite reporting everything while onboard, we only got about $10 in compensation. When we tried to follow up with support, they gave us generic responses and just kept telling us to check with our insurance company instead of taking responsibility themselves. For a company of their size, the customer care was surprisingly inadequate. If you're booking a cruise expecting top-notch service, be prepared for disappointment.
Really impressed with the service and how friendly everyone was. Tons of games and activities to keep everyone entertained. My 7 year old had a blast with all the kids programs and my older daughter loved everything put on for teens. The room service was efficient and reliable. I wish I'd written down the names of more crew members because they made such an impression. One staff member near the rock climbing wall was especially wonderful, constantly encouraging and helping my little one get through the course multiple times. Our room attendant Mariano was so warm and kind. We loved the art shows, the ice skating rink, the clown performance, theater productions, and the trivia competitions. Just great all around.
I had an enjoyable time on the Utopia of the Seas. The ship is gorgeous and there's plenty of fun to be had. That said, I have to point out an issue with the bathroom design. Royal Caribbean needs to fix that bathroom doorway threshold. My fiancé slipped on that sharp edge and cut his foot pretty badly. There's no warning about the hazard, and because of his injury he wasn't able to enjoy the rest of the cruise.

If you want decent food variety, you have to pay up for the specialty dining restaurants.

The cruise itself was okay, the food was just average. This was back-to-back cruises on the Independence of the Seas from October 4th through the 16th. While onboard we did some gambling and lost a bit of money on both trips. Because we gambled a certain amount, they gave us a voucher for a discounted future cruise. We took that voucher to the guest services desk and were told to pay 150 pounds to activate it, and then we could book a cruise when we got home by calling a specific number. We did exactly that and paid the 150 pounds at the desk. When I checked my bank account at home, I saw they charged me 150 pounds as expected, but then they also charged me an additional 150 pounds twice more without my permission or approval. I've been trying to get those unauthorized charges reversed but keep getting told everything is non-refundable. I'm done trying to work with Royal Caribbean and won't be sailing with them ever again.
I wanted to switch to a different ship and was told it was possible, but the system went down so I needed to reach out again later. When I followed up a week or so after, I found out there'd be a $100 per person charge to make the switch, though no one mentioned that fees might be waived. Unfortunately, a representative then went ahead and canceled my booking and hit me with a $750 non-refundable charge. I was stuck dealing with another agent who just kept reading from a script. It was a total disaster. Update: A manager eventually reached back out, sorted everything out, and refunded my money. Since the problem got resolved, I'm changing my rating from 1 star up to 5 because I think that's the fair thing to do.

This was only my second cruise overall. My first cruise on a different line was nice, but this experience was better. I'm a wheelchair user and requested an accessible cabin set up as two single beds so my friend and caregiver could stay with me. They provided that, and my other friends in the neighboring cabin had a regular double room which was actually smaller, but that made sense given my accessibility needs. We were able to share our balcony space which was actually really helpful when I needed extra assistance. The itinerary changed on short notice, but we didn't mind since we weren't doing any organized excursions anyway and enjoyed the unexpected stop. I had zero complaints the whole time and the main dining room food was delicious. We tried a few different restaurants, most of them complimentary with one where we paid, and they were all good. I wasn't a fan of the buffet setup since my friends had to fetch and carry food for me since I can't do that myself, though they were fine with it and knew what they were signing up for. We splurged on Jamie's Italian which was worth every penny.
Everything was immaculate throughout the ship. The crew members had genuine smiles and went out of their way to help. Teenagers have tons of great spaces to hang out. The dining was excellent.
It's refreshing to get help from an actual person instead of an automated system. The support I received was top notch across the board, from how they treated me to what they knew to how everything was handled. Really impressed with Royal Caribbean.
Had an incredible time on the Explorer of the Seas sailing to the Greek islands in late May and early June. The staff was absolutely phenomenal and would do anything for you. Our bed had towels folded into swans every single day. Staff members brought us drinks anywhere on the ship and even did magic shows for guests. The shows and entertainment were world-class. Dining was amazing with tons of variety and you can eat pretty much whenever you want. The port visits were wonderful and convenient to explore. The only downside was how expensive drinks are, though we ended up getting a package to make it easier. The advertised price is definitely not the final price, but I'd absolutely sail with them again because the crew made it so special and everything was a blast.
