WinCo Foods shoppers are deeply divided in their opinions. The strongest supporters praise the store's consistent quality, fair pricing, and straightforward approach without unnecessary marketing or hype. These loyal customers appreciate the simplicity and solid execution they experience from start to finish. However, significant complaints center on product quality issues (particularly produce going bad quickly), recent operational changes (discontinuing in-house fresh pizza for frozen alternatives that shoppers find subpar), understaffing at checkout areas, and reported customer service inconsistencies. Some reviewers have experienced frustration with self-checkout systems requiring frequent employee assistance and unclear signage, as well as concerns about staff treatment and store policies.

The store's performance reflects a polarized customer base: nearly half of reviewers give perfect ratings, while nearly a quarter report serious dissatisfaction. Mid-range complaints suggest gaps in execution around food quality, checkout efficiency, and customer service consistency that may be preventing more neutral shoppers from becoming loyal advocates.

I've really grown to love shopping at this store. The quality never wavers, the prices are totally fair, and the whole process from start to finish is smooth. What makes it work is the simplicity. No fancy marketing, no empty promises, just solid execution. Most other grocery stores depend on hype and big brand names to move products. This place just focuses on doing the job right, and I genuinely respect that straightforward approach. My only complaint is they don't offer online ordering. I understand it might clash with keeping costs low, but it would be nice.

The decision to stop making fresh pizza in-house and switch to frozen ones shipped in was a terrible call. These pies are honestly terrible. You're better off grabbing a frozen brand from your freezer section.

Returned cat food I accidentally grabbed and they denied selling it to me, even though I've been a loyal customer living nearby for decades. The staff there constantly lies. My fruit consistently goes bad within days, happened four separate times. One employee working the aisles actually rushed over to me like security when I was heading to customer service for a lighter. Even the cashiers thought he was acting ridiculous. After nearly three decades of shopping there, I'm done. Won't be back. Period.

Tried the frozen meat lovers breakfast bowl and have mixed feelings. The packaging quality deserves five stars and the pricing is solid. But the actual meal? Taste scored a 2 out of 5. The potatoes seem overcut or there's just too many, and the flavor is totally bland. Your competitors don't beat you on price or value, but they absolutely nail the taste compared to this.

My wife and I pushed a full cart up to the register but saw one cashier handling all the checkout lanes. We figured we'd try the self-scan area instead. Every couple items we scanned, the system would lock up and we'd need a worker to come help us continue. They pointed at a high-hanging sign mentioning a 15-item limit that we simply didn't spot among the hundred other signs cluttering the store. Frustrated, we just abandoned our entire cart. The employee dealing with the checkout afterward had an attitude and lectured us about the rules. If you're going to have item limits at self-checkout, post it prominently at the entrance instead of way up there where nobody looks.

It's unfortunate that this company doesn't protect its team members after all the dedication they've shown. After years of going the extra mile, being available constantly, training new people, and traveling wherever they're needed on short notice, management decided to let someone go. It's clear they don't value their employees. Turnover is sky high for a reason. This company made a serious mistake.

We hit up this store along with another chain to find the greatest bargains. This place leads when it comes to fresh items and bulk options. Whenever you need help finding something, the team members jump in right away.

Jennifer L.Dec 30, 2023

We split our shopping between here and another major chain to score the best prices overall. This place wins on fresh produce and bulk items. The employees always step in to help when you need something.

Derek L.Dec 8, 2023

Their managers actually know how to run things and will bring in items you request if they don't already stock them. The crew is significantly more courteous and willing to help compared to other grocery chains. I do wish they carried more natural products though, since there's artificial sweeteners and corn syrup in practically everything here and we try to avoid those. Regardless, we grab what we can at this place first. The pricing is simply unbeatable and they're way ahead of the competition across the board.

Steven N.Dec 8, 2023

The leadership team really knows what they're doing and will stock products you request even if they don't currently carry them. Employees are noticeably friendlier and more helpful than competitors. My only wish is they had way more organic and health-conscious options, since so many products here contain added sweeteners or corn syrup that we try to avoid. Still, we always grab what we can here first because the pricing beats everyone else by a mile. Way superior to the big box retailers and other chains.

I visit this location regularly. One evening, Ray was managing the self-checkout stations and was an absolute pleasure. Super friendly, always smiling, easy to talk to. He's seriously the best. That's a tough position but he handles it with excellence.

Michael R.May 3, 2023

Absolutely terrible visit. The checkout crew might be inexperienced but the management here is terrible. Store managers seem to operate by their own rulebook, showing discriminatory behavior. The Las Vegas locations especially need a serious wake-up call. It's time people recognized what's happening and stopped shopping here entirely. This company's forgotten its roots. Sure, they're above discount retailers, but the people running things have no problem living large. Being employee-owned is apparently their excuse for doing whatever they want.

David B.Apr 2, 2023

We've always appreciated shopping here, and their pricing and selection stayed solid for years. But we just learned they've basically dropped all kosher offerings, and there's barely anything else during Passover besides a handful of matzoh boxes. We used to find gefilte fish, holiday candles, and tons of other products, but now when all the competing stores set up full kosher sections, this place has completely dropped the ball. Multiple managers told us their warehouse isn't sending any kosher stock anymore. It's concerning and disappointing.

Margaret F.Nov 25, 2022

Ongoing situation here. I've sent emails that never get responses. The loose bulk onions don't have barcode stickers, so cashiers just punch in the highest code available. It's a scam. I've lost quite a bit of money this way over the years.

Gregory R.Feb 18, 2022

One pound of lentils costs roughly a dollar here compared to over three dollars elsewhere. That pretty much sums up their pricing advantage.
