The Yankee Candle Company Reviews
Shoppers are deeply divided on The Yankee Candle Company. A significant portion of reviewers report that candles lack scent throw, with customers noting that cheaper alternatives produce noticeably stronger smells. Long-time buyers specifically mention that scent quality has declined over time while prices have continued to rise. Shipping and delivery issues during peak seasons have also frustrated customers, with delayed processing and unclear communication from customer service. On the positive side, some shoppers praise Yankee candles as having the strongest scent throw available compared to competing brands, with specific appreciation for varieties like lilac blossom.
The store receives a polarized rating of 2.2 out of 5 from 19 shoppers. While a meaningful segment of customers remain loyal and satisfied with product quality, the majority of recent reviews express dissatisfaction with either product performance or order fulfillment. Common requests include expanded flower scent options. The gap between positive and negative feedback suggests significant inconsistency in either product quality or customer expectations.
This is my first time buying a Yankee candle and I'm not satisfied. You literally can't smell it while it's burning. I got the sugared cinnamon apple scent and for what I paid, I expected it to smell a lot stronger. I've bought cheaper candles for around thirteen dollars that put out way more scent.
Something's different now and not in a good way. I've been buying Yankee candles for decades. They used to fill the entire house with a warm, welcoming smell. But that's changed. They keep raising prices while the scent seems to be getting weaker. I know what the smell should be like after an hour or two of burning, and I can barely smell it unless I stick my nose right up to the candle. At least they don't have that tunneling problem anymore, but the whole point of buying these is to have your house smell nice. I'm checking out other brands now.
I ordered six candles two weeks ahead of Christmas and the website said they'd arrive in plenty of time. It took them ten days just to ship the order and now I'm getting mixed messages from the carrier about when it will arrive. One day it says Friday delivery, the next day it's Saturday, and now I'm checking again and it doesn't look like it's coming anytime soon. Plus one of the six candles I ordered wasn't available and trying to get someone to help me order something else was a huge pain. I like the candles themselves but ordering online was a disaster. Next time I'll just go to a store in person or buy from a different company. Three days before Christmas and I still have no idea if these candles will even show up. My advice: buy their candles in stores or from somewhere else, not from their website.
My order took a full week to ship during the holiday rush. There was supposed to be a holiday delay warning at checkout but it wasn't there when I placed my order. Customer service claimed it was visible when I double-checked, but they were wrong. When I called to ask about it, they just blamed the carrier and wouldn't offer any solution or compensation.
I tested out another candle brand called Tuscany and was really disappointed - the scent barely came through. Your candles are honestly the strongest smelling ones I've come across and that's what makes them so great. I really enjoy your lilac blossom variety. If only you offered other flower options like lily or tulips, that would be perfect.
I bought another brand called Tuscany and honestly the scent was so weak compared to Yankee candles - really let me down. Your candles have the best scent throw I've found anywhere. I'm a big fan of your lilac blossom candles. My only wish is that you'd offer more flower scents like lily or tulips.
I've been using Yankee candles for years but lately I don't order them because the scent quality is just gone. Used to be when you lit one, the smell would fill your whole house. My kids keep asking for them at Christmas though so I still buy them every year. This year they had a promotion for buy two get three free. I got two diffusers in my order but instead of three freebies, they charged me for all five. I sent them an email and never heard back. When I called, the woman on the phone was really rude and just told me to return them when they arrive and maybe I'd find another sale. Why would I want to do that? Their products aren't even good anymore and now they're overcharging you and won't honor their promotions. I'm done with Yankee. My kids are going to have to find another candle brand for their Christmas gifts.
I've been a loyal Yankee candle customer for so many years, but I'm done now. The scent quality has really gone downhill and honestly they all smell basically the same to me. The smell reminds me of old-timey candles made from animal fat - it's pretty gross. I won't be buying anymore.
I've spent thousands of dollars with this company over the past year alone, so I'm a serious customer. I ordered three medium-sized candles as a birthday gift, and the package arrived damaged from the shipping company. Nobody from Yankee ever called or emailed to let me know the shipment wouldn't make it on time, just that there was a delay. After I dug around and called, the carrier told me I needed to get a replacement directly from Yankee. Three weeks went by at that point. I finally contacted them and asked if they could rush out a replacement so I could give it to my friend soon. The answer was no. The agent on chat was really rude and just told me the warehouse is working as fast as they can and then hung up on me without letting me respond! I can't tolerate that kind of customer service. Plenty of other candle companies out there would appreciate my business and I'm looking into switching. Yankee won't be getting any more of my money. Monitor your chat agents better because you're going to lose loyal customers this way.
I used to absolutely love Yankee candles and have been buying them since the 90s, so I decided to give their online ordering a try. First order arrived with a broken candle and I thought okay, these things happen. Second time I ordered online, I heard nothing from the company or the shipping company. When I checked my order status myself, I found out the entire shipment was damaged in transit and would never arrive. I won't be ordering from them again. Why would you buy something that won't even get to your house because of terrible packaging?
I've spent a ton of money with this company year after year. The candles were fine I guess, but I'm over it now. My recent order shipped without any heads up or tracking info. It arrived nine days later while I was traveling, so the candles sat outside in the heat the whole time. I didn't even get a delivery notification until the day after they showed up. Then I get a message that they cancelled one of my items without explaining why. I called customer service to explain the situation and the rep just said thanks for your feedback and that was it. It's clear I was not a priority to them, so I'm moving on. I'm switching to Goose Creek and Colonial going forward. I've been loyal to Yankee for years and recommended them to friends and family. Yankee's loyalty was only to my money though. They won't see me or the people I referred anymore.
Yankee Candle's customer service has absolutely tanked. I don't even know where to start with how bad it's gotten. The policies they keep changing every week make no sense. I qualify for a discount but the process is insane now. You have to email them, pay for your order first, then wait for them to email you back with a refund. It used to be way simpler - you'd call and get the discount applied immediately on that first call. No back and forth emails, no wasted time for anyone. Now they've got these ridiculous new procedures in place and I just refuse to jump through those hoops. They told me a supervisor would call within 24 to 48 hours but by then the sale I'm trying to use will be over and expired. I honestly can't believe how badly this company has mismanaged things. I've got around 100 large Yankee candles sitting in my pantry right now from years of loyalty. I've been such a dedicated customer of Yankee for so long but I'm at my breaking point. I can't keep dealing with this aggravation anymore.
Got a pricey Yankee candle for Christmas and I'm really disappointed. After about 30-45 minutes of burning, the flame dies because wax builds up around the wick and the whole thing becomes useless. I've read online that you can wrap aluminum foil around the top to help it breathe, but that defeats the whole purpose of enjoying the candle. Back in the day, their candles didn't have this problem. You guys seriously need to fix this or you're going to lose customers like me. This is just ridiculous.
I'd give them zero stars if I could. On January 5th during their sale, I ordered 5 candles and put them all in my cart. I got no confirmation email, no order number, and the order doesn't show up anywhere in my account. But the payment definitely went through - I can see it in my PayPal and bank statements. I've reached out multiple times with proof of payment but nobody helps. Then on the 8th, I get a marketing email with the headline 'You found something special' showing me the exact candles I had already purchased. Why would they email me to buy something I already bought? I contacted them again and still got no response. This is crazy. On the 9th I got another email telling me to purchase the items I supposedly viewed. I feel like they're gaslighting me at this point. My browser history clearly shows I logged in, viewed products, added them to my bag, paid through PayPal, and saw an order confirmation. Yet I keep getting emails saying I should buy these candles. All I want is the candles I paid for. This situation is getting out of hand.
I bought eight tall pillar jar candles and they burn way too hot with a flame that gets really high and creates a lot of smoke. The top of each jar gets blackened about three inches down from the rim. I trim the wick every single day but by evening the flame shoots back up to five inches high. I've purchased tons of other Yankee candles before and none of them do this - just these pillar jars. It's really bad. I'm not buying these pillar jars anymore unless they make some serious changes to how they burn.
