Image Line Reviews
Image Line has a polarized customer base. Dedicated users praise the software as an excellent DAW and express strong loyalty after years of use. However, a significant portion of shoppers report serious frustrations with account management, licensing restrictions, unexpected subscription charges, expensive add-on plugins, and what they describe as unresponsive support. Many reviewers feel the software operates more as a rental than an owned product, with strict enforcement of license terms and limited recourse when issues arise.
Common complaints center on account lockouts when reinstalling operating systems or changing email addresses, difficulty canceling subscriptions or recovering locked accounts, mandatory bundled services with surprise charges, and a business model requiring numerous expensive plugin purchases for basic production tasks. Satisfied customers tend to be long-term users who have committed to the platform, while dissatisfied shoppers often express regret over their purchase and recommend alternatives.
They'll lock your account just for switching your email address. They claim you're using the license on a different device even when you explain it's the same computer and that reinstalling Windows changes the device ID. They don't listen. They tell you to repurchase instead of restoring your license like they promised. Then if you try to do anything about it, they say you're evading the suspension and steal your money. And you don't even own the software.
This is basically software you rent, not own. If they decide to shut down your license for whatever reason, that's it. You have no recourse. Good luck getting support to help you recover something you paid for with your own money. The support team is awful and will eventually just stop responding to you. Skip this and find something else.
Would give zero stars if possible. They bundle in subscription services and then just start charging your account without asking. When you complain and say you don't want that stuff, they only give back half your money. Plus there's this rule where you can't even cancel the basic package. Honestly, I've lost all motivation to make music over this. Skip this and go with Logic Pro instead. Way better product.
Not worth the money. Got the producer version and I'm constantly being asked to pay extra for plugins and effects. Even basic stuff you'd need for recording or playing guitar requires additional purchases. I get that things cost money, but these add-ons are almost as expensive as the DAW itself. Really regret this purchase.
Simply the best DAW out there. Started with it back in 2013 and stuck with it ever since.
Hands down the best DAW available. Been using it since 2013 and never looked back.
These stock sounds are honestly terrible. I've been producing music for years and they're really weak compared to what I need.
FL has arguably the best looking interface of any DAW out there. Pretty intuitive for newcomers too. My main gripe is that so many features are unintuitive. Like, having one weird feature, fine, maybe that's a development oversight. But when there are tons of little annoying quirks, it drives you crazy. Why do I have to load files just to access past projects? Why isn't there an easy way to expand my file list and see more projects at once? These small things pile up and become really frustrating in daily workflow. You can definitely make great beats with it and FL has serious street credibility. Just know what you're getting into and maybe try the free version first if you get frustrated easily. I do appreciate the 10% discount that support threw my way though.
Pretty wild that they released an update that made things worse instead of better. Now I'm dealing with constant errors.
The actual software is solid. Where it really falls apart is customer support. They need major improvements. I spent three months trying to figure out why I couldn't reactivate after my computer crashed. Anyone saying they don't get the negative reviews hasn't dealt with a serious license issue yet. It's shocking how people dismiss others' real problems.
Never seen worse customer service from such a large company. Seriously disappointed. The responses I got weren't even genuine attempts to help, just copy-paste nonsense. It's clear they've outsourced their support to people who don't care.
Good experience with support, though the overall situation is frustrating. Turns out the basic Fruity version is pretty stripped down. Going from the demo to a paid license actually means losing functionality, which seems backwards. The demo is almost as full-featured as the full version except you can't save your work. Image Line does explain this on their site. When I reached out with questions, their support team was courteous and got back to me promptly. Can't complain about the service itself.
I'm confused by all the negative feedback. I've been working with this software since 2013 and can definitely say it's worth every penny. Tried some other options but nothing compares. FL's approach to loops just clicked with me and I never switched.

What an incredible tool they've created. I put in 12 hours daily and I absolutely love it. Been telling everyone I know about it and they're all using it too. We're all jamming together now and having a blast. Haha, just messing around. But seriously, fantastic company with an equally fantastic product. Can't recommend it enough!
