Orangetheory Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Orangetheory
Orangetheory receives deeply polarized feedback, with shoppers either enthusiastically committed to the fitness program or frustrated with membership policies and cancellation practices. Satisfied members praise the instructors, studio cleanliness, personalized attention, and transformative fitness results. However, a significant portion of reviewers report feeling misled about membership terms, particularly regarding cancellation policies, minimum class requirements, and the advertised "risk-free" guarantee. Common complaints include unclear contract terms, unexpected additional charges when canceling, aggressive follow-up communications, and the perception that the studio prioritizes revenue over transparent customer service.
The core tension in reviews centers on membership agreements rather than workout quality. While those committed to the program describe meaningful health improvements and supportive staff, those who attempted to leave cite frustration with hidden contractual requirements, lack of upfront documentation, and billing practices that feel designed to lock in customers. Prospective members should carefully review all terms before committing and ask specific questions about cancellation policies and minimum class requirements during the sales process.

Sorted by: Most recentMy experience at the San Francisco Orange Theory has been fantastic. The staff is genuinely kind and helpful, and the studio is always spotless. My trainer Anna has been amazing, introducing me to all kinds of exercises that support my specific health needs. It's been a really positive experience and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone searching for a welcoming place to get fit.
I checked out OTF because they advertised a free first class. The manager talked us into something called the Quit Free Guarantee after the class ended. A month went by and we'd only done five classes when we realized it wasn't for us. When we tried to leave, we found out buried in the contract that you need to do 12 classes within one month to use that guarantee. Nobody explained this when we signed up. 'Quit Free Guarantee' is in big letters everywhere, but the real requirement is in tiny print. My wife was standing right next to me and neither of us understood what we were agreeing to. Was that really supposed to be clear? OTF is legitimately challenging workout, and doing 12 classes in one month is unrealistic for most people, especially if you're doing other fitness stuff. Make sure you examine every detail before you put your name on anything. Get vocal about it, everybody. Leave your reviews, and contact your credit card company if you need to.
When I joined OTF, they told me there was a 30 day risk free option on my membership. That promise went straight out the window. They added a bunch of requirements they never mentioned during the signup call, like needing to complete 12 minimum sessions. Then they charged me for a full extra month when I asked to cancel right away, even though this isn't the right gym for what I'm looking for in strength training.
GOING TO OTF EVERY DAY AND SOMETIMES MULTIPLE SESSIONS HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED MY HEALTH FOR THE BETTER. MY DOCTOR VISITS SHOW FANTASTIC RESULTS NOW. STAYING ACTIVE AND STRENGTHENING YOUR BODY IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT FOR YOUR OVERALL WELLNESS.
The spam calls and texts are absolutely excessive. They really need to dial it back.
I can't recommend OTF to anyone who cares about their wallet. The policies aren't clearly explained, and they won't give you a physical or digital contract upfront. Even after you fill out a cancellation form, you're stuck paying for another month. It's like they're determined to squeeze every dollar out of you. Honestly, if you never even step foot in a class, they'll still charge you two months of fees. This place is a nightmare if you're concerned about financial transparency because they'll do whatever it takes to keep billing you.
The Boca West location has terrible phone manners. I got an incredibly rude call from someone claiming to be the franchise manager, plus around a dozen follow-up sales calls even after I said no the first time. Treat your callers with respect, and maybe people will actually want to join your gym.
This place runs a scam operation. First, they claimed I'd get six free workouts before any charges hit my card, and said the charge would come the following Friday. My card got charged after my very first session. Second, they quoted me one hundred sixty a month for unlimited access plus a free second month and no extra costs. I ended up being charged one seventy instead. The salesperson rushed me to sign paperwork immediately so I'd supposedly get that deal. Third, you have to buy a heart rate monitor to participate. I thought it came with the membership since the membership is already pricey. Nope. They want one hundred forty dollars for it upfront, or you can do a payment plan that costs forty extra per month. Nobody mentioned this at all. These extra charges just keep piling up. I wanted to quit but can't even use my remaining time because I'm not dropping that kind of money on a monitor or committing to another monthly fee for it. That said, the actual instructors are excellent and really helpful working with you individually. The classes are small and personal, and everything is clean and welcoming. The heart rate tracking concept is solid too, but the whole cost situation is deceptive.
Total scam at the Silver Spring location. They bait you with a free class offer and then create reasons to say you're not eligible for it. There are plenty of other fitness options in this area that actually respect customers instead of pulling this kind of stuff.
You get a reasonable workout squeezed into fifty five minutes. Most of the instructors are solid at what they do. I ended my membership because of how aggressively they pushed certain messaging in June. That was just the last straw after already dealing with poor customer service. Their cancellation policy requires eight hours notice, so if you're stuck in traffic after work or wake up sick for an early class, you still get charged a fee anyway.
