What Shoppers Say About BWS Australia
BWS Australia is rated 1.5 out of 5 by 21 shoppers, with the vast majority expressing dissatisfaction. Shoppers consistently report problems with pricing that significantly exceeds competitors like Liquorland and Dan's (sometimes 40 percent higher), declining product selection, and poor customer service experiences. Some locations face particular criticism for unhelpful or dismissive staff attitudes. A small number of positive reviews highlight individual managers who provide knowledgeable, friendly service and product guidance.
Recurring complaints extend beyond pricing and selection to more serious issues, including online ordering system failures, billing problems, and isolated reports of discriminatory treatment. While BWS maintains a wide product range at some locations, reviewers indicate this alone is insufficient to justify their pricing strategy when competitors offer substantially better value and comparable selection. The overwhelming negative sentiment suggests the chain has lost customer confidence in reliability and value proposition.

Sorted by: Most recentThe manager at the Forest Hill location in Melbourne, Ollie, is fantastic. He's genuinely friendly and really knows his stuff when it comes to products and pricing. I always feel confident that he's steering me toward the right choice. He's definitely a huge plus for the company.
Used to be reliable and had decent selection, but my last trip was disappointing. Selection was way down and whatever they did have was pricey and not worth buying. Come on, BWS, you're better than this. Might check out Liquorland instead next time.
Should've researched their online ordering issues before using them for a client's Christmas gift. I placed and paid for the order but their system linked it to my client's name. I got a cancellation notice with zero explanation. When I called to ask what happened, they refused to discuss it because the order was under someone else's name, even though I was the one who bought it. They just told me to email. Now I'm scrambling right before the holidays to find another option. Not good, BWS. If you're going to do online orders, you need proper procedures and actual customer service backing it up. This whole thing was pointless and frustrating.
Experienced discrimination, racism, and bullying all at once. Won't be setting foot in there again.
Shop local claim doesn't match reality. Hit up the Northpoint location in Toowoomba regularly and I'm always shocked at how overpriced everything is compared to Liquorland or Dan's. Take Jacobs Creek Chardonnay as an example: BWS charges $11, but Dan's has it for $7.50 and Liquorland for $7.20. That's nearly 40% more! Liquorland's delivery is also way better and cheaper. Since BWS came from the old WW outfit, now Endeavour, it seems like getting charged more is just standard practice. Their whole 'we won't be beaten on price' thing is a complete joke when they're actually the priciest bottle shop around town.
Visited the Rivervale location in mid-September and probably won't go back. Sure, they've got tons of drinks to choose from, which is something, but that's really all they've got going for them. The team members were incredibly unhelpful and had bad attitudes. Asked one guy about a wine I'd purchased before and he got snippy, saying 'If it's not on the shelf, we don't have it. Find it yourself.' Why would I even bother asking when staff treats you like that? This place only works if you already know exactly what you're looking for. Don't expect any assistance because they'll make you feel bad for even trying.
Ordered at 6pm, driver shows up at 7:20pm but only brings half the order. Driver says that's all he received so I need to contact the store. Call the store and get a kid on the phone who has no idea what to do. Call the 1300 number at 7:40pm, wait 10 minutes and get hung up on. By 8:15pm still no delivery. Nobody at BWS seemed to care one bit!!!
Worst online shopping experience ever. The BWS website is absolutely terrible to navigate and order from.
The website runs incredibly slow and it's so annoying to use. Takes forever to find anything or complete an order, sometimes 15 minutes just to buy one thing. I do like the delivery option and getting alcohol in under an hour for $12 is great, but the ordering process kills it. Plus most of what I want ends up being out of stock. There are two locations within 6.5 kilometers of me but one of them, the Packington Street location, never has anything. Only the Newtown store will deliver to my area. I've been loyal for years and stick to one type of beer, Hahn Super Dry. Would really help if Packington Street could stock more of the cans and stubby bottles. Ever since they put the bottles on special at half price, I haven't been able to get a single box. Maybe implement a limit of 2 per customer to keep things fair.
