What Shoppers Say About MagicJack
MagicJack has a serious customer satisfaction problem, with nearly 9 in 10 reviewers giving it a one-star rating. The most common complaints center on service disruptions and failures: customers report calls dropping after 30 to 45 seconds, text features being mysteriously blocked, phones not working after internet provider changes, and service being shut off immediately after payment. Multiple reviewers describe broken refund promises and problematic customer service interactions, including one long-time customer of 30 years who experienced unexplained feature blocks. A small segment of new users report positive initial experiences, praising straightforward setup and clear call quality in areas with weak cellular signal.
The stark contrast between one-star and five-star reviews suggests MagicJack may work adequately for some new users with ideal conditions, but older accounts and customers who experience technical issues encounter unresponsive support and inflexible billing practices. Service quality appears to degrade over time for many customers, and the company's handling of refund requests has left multiple reviewers feeling deceived.

Sorted by: Most recentI've been with this company for three decades. Recently a business tried to send me a verification text but it never came through. The next day I see a message in the app saying my text feature had been unblocked. Why was it blocked to begin with? Then I noticed on my other number that calls used to cut out after 30 or 45 seconds before disconnecting, which makes me think they were limiting my usage. So you get phone service with a side of sketchy behavior. I was using one of those numbers as my contact for volunteer animal rescue work, and only lowlifes would interfere with people trying to help animals and communities. They've turned into a disreputable company with basically no customer support. They don't even maintain their social media anymore. They're only useful as a budget VOIP option. Don't bother with their 911 service or they'll tack on extra charges and claim it's from your state. But given their recent tactics, I don't trust anything they say anymore.
They shut off my service right after I paid over one hundred dollars. I'm looking for an honest, dependable option instead.
Been a customer for quite a while. Switched internet providers and suddenly they can't get my phone working. Won't give me my money back either. Pretty disappointing.
Plugged in my Magic Jack yesterday and I'm really impressed so far! Getting set up was super straightforward. I'm using it as a simple home phone to make and take calls in my area. My cell doesn't get great signal where I live, but this device is coming in loud and clear. If anything changes, I'll update this. Fingers crossed things stay this good.
Would rate this lower if I could. They told me to pay for another year and promised they'd refund the year they overcharged me for. Then the very next day after I paid, I get an email saying no refund. Now I'm stuck with 2 years of a service that's gotten worse and worse. Call forwarding doesn't work. I won't be back.
It never performed correctly from day one. MJ pushed me to buy a newer model, so we did, but the replacement started having problems and eventually quit working entirely.

Just like before, their lack of customer service made me cancel a year ago. When I went to renew last November, they claimed I'd given them a wrong card number, which was news to me since I didn't realize they saved payment info on file. I'd been a happy customer for a decade. I couldn't reach them by phone, chat, or online. Since then I haven't used the service at all. This week I got a renewal email. Do they not realize I stopped using them? I'd still be a customer if not for that card issue, but people change cards all the time when banks switch or cards get lost.
I'm confused by all the complaints. This isn't a traditional phone company anyway, and who even has a landline anymore? I've had MJ since they launched and upgraded my units several times over the years. Never had any issues. It does exactly what it's supposed to. In over a decade, I can count my dropped calls on one hand. I call everywhere without trouble. I've even phoned relatives overseas for cheap and traveled with the device internationally without extra charges. Plus, I use it mainly for faxes now, which works great.
