What Shoppers Say About Fish Hippie
Fish Hippie receives consistently poor ratings, with shoppers citing significant issues with quality control and customer service policies. While some reviewers praise the comfort and softness of the clothing (particularly long sleeve shirts), these positive experiences are heavily outweighed by complaints about durability problems, restrictive return policies, and unresponsive customer service. Multiple customers report receiving items that are too large, experiencing fabric tears after minimal wear, and encountering inflexible final sale restrictions that prevent exchanges or refunds.
The most serious recurring problem involves the company's return and exchange policies, which shoppers describe as overly strict and unhelpful. Customers have reported difficulty obtaining refunds or store credit for unworn items and encountering final sale restrictions on discounted purchases. Long-time customers have also noticed a decline in quality relative to prices, with premium polos priced at $80-90 failing to meet durability expectations after just two washes.

Sorted by: Most recentI first wore a Fish Hippie long sleeve shirt at the beach one day when I got sunburned and was getting chilly near the fans on the outdoor seating area. My wife grabbed one for me to throw on and I was amazed by how soft and comfortable it felt. That got me hooked, so I started ordering more shirts and dress shirts from them. Unfortunately, I haven't found a single other Fish Hippie piece that comes close to that original experience. Almost every shirt I've bought since then feels stiff and rough, like cardboard basically. Their sizing is all over the place too - I ordered an XL that fit more like a large. This inconsistency means even if I really like something, I can't order it again in a different color because the fit and feel change from one purchase to the next. Just grabbed a $100 long sleeve tee that legitimately feels like cardboard, and it's so long it nearly reaches my knees. Same issue with their dress shirts actually. I did order one sport-style shirt that I absolutely love, so I grabbed the same one in another color when I saw it. When it showed up I was stunned - completely different material and fit compared to the first one. This second shirt is stiff, uncomfortable, and I never even wear it now. Bottom line, don't count on consistency from this brand.
Can't really speak to the actual product quality since I only bought here once as a gift. However, their customer service and return policy are absolutely problematic. Watch out with this company! I purchased a shirt for a family member in late October, thinking I could spread out my Christmas spending over a couple months. Turns out Fish Hippie's return window is just 30 days, which means it doesn't work for Christmas shopping at all. By the time I figured this out, the purchase was already done. If I wanted to return it and buy again closer to the holidays, they'd charge me a $7 return fee. Even if my family member got the shirt tomorrow and needed a different size or color, they'd have to pay a $7 fee for the exchange. Places like Belk and Macy's would at least let you swap items with no charge, even well after Christmas. This company's return and exchange setup is really unfair. I'd recommend looking elsewhere.
I've been a loyal Fish Hippie customer for over a decade, ever since discovering them during a trip to Charleston. Recently bought a couple of Balao polos in the $80-90 price range, and while the fabric felt nice initially, both shirts developed rips below the button placket after just two washes. Quality polos typically have reinforced stitching in that area to prevent this exact issue. I reached out to customer service with constructive feedback and photos back in the summer but got no response. When I followed up again, they asked for extensive documentation and proof of purchase, which was frustrating since I receive constant promotional emails from them. The torn areas make the shirts look cheap and worn out. If this happened to me twice, it's probably happening to other customers too, yet the company doesn't seem to care much about either product quality or standing behind their work. Their emails always tout a satisfaction guarantee, but actions speak louder than words. A tweak to their manufacturing process could easily solve this problem. Otherwise they seem fine, but this quality issue is a real letdown.
Placed my first order here and got a bundle of tees plus another discounted item. Both arrived way too big for me. I contacted them about exchanging for smaller sizes, but one item turned out to be final sale with no returns or exchanges allowed. They wouldn't even give me store credit as an alternative. When I called their customer service line, I got pretty dismissive treatment. At that point I just asked for a full refund instead. I won't be shopping with them going forward. Make sure you understand their return and exchange terms before buying anything.
