Kansas City Steak Reviews
Kansas City Steak receives polarized feedback, with shoppers rating it 2.3 out of 5 based on 17 reviews. Satisfied customers praise the quality of the meat itself, particularly prime rib and steaks, and commend the customer service team for being genuinely helpful and kind. However, the majority of reviewers cite serious concerns: order fulfillment errors (receiving wrong items like baked potatoes instead of lobster tails), quality control issues (oversalted meat), and frustrating customer service experiences including long hold times and difficulty obtaining replacements or refunds. The pricing is also a frequent complaint, with shoppers noting that per-pound costs significantly exceed local butcher options.
The most damaging pattern across negative reviews involves operational failures combined with inadequate resolution. Customers report shipping errors, packaging problems, and resistance to straightforward returns or replacements, creating a cycle where initial mistakes become compounded by poor follow-up service. While some customers report positive experiences with both product quality and support, the high concentration of one-star ratings suggests these problems are not isolated incidents.
Kansas City Steak Company does a solid job as a meat ordering service. They get me what I want whenever I get a craving for a good steak or anything else from their menu.
I placed 4 orders totaling over $800 before Christmas and had nothing but problems. One shipment arrived with baked potatoes instead of the lobster tails I'd ordered. I called customer service and sat on hold for over 40 minutes, then spent another 15 minutes describing the mix up. They said they'd resend it right away, but my client never got the lobster and I got no credit for the over $100 I spent. The issue was never fixed. I also ate a crab cake from my order and got sick immediately after. I used to hear good things about this company, but clearly their quality and service have fallen off big time. The food wasn't even fit to eat, the customer service team was rude and refused to fix anything, and the whole thing was a disaster. I switched to ordering from Omaha Steaks and things have been great. After that nightmare, I'm done with Kansas City Steak and won't tell anyone else to try them either.
Great company to work with. The people in customer service are genuinely kind and helpful. My brother absolutely loved the prime rib I sent him as a New Year gift. Thanks so much!
Got a 3.5 pound prime rib as a Christmas present from this company, which was my first time trying them. Unfortunately, it was way too salty to eat. Not a great way to start a relationship with a new vendor.
The pricing on these steaks is absolutely ridiculous. Four 8 ounce tenderloins going for $179 means you're looking at roughly $89 per pound. I can walk into a local butcher shop, grab the same cuts in the same size, and still have a hundred bucks left in my pocket.
They were awful to me after they sent the wrong items and didn't package everything right. I just asked if they could send me a box to send things back and they refused. Now I've got to call back tomorrow to see if I can at least get my money back and return everything. I'm not asking for freebies, I just want what I originally ordered.
The NY strip steaks came with way too much fat on them and the cuts weren't even consistent. With only two steaks, one was barely half an inch thick while the other was over an inch and a quarter. We also ordered Tomahawk steaks for $149 that turned out to be tough. Really disappointed.
First time ordering from Kansas City Steak House and I'm really let down. Instead of sending me the whole smoked turkey I ordered, they shipped out a steak by mistake. They told me they'd send a replacement, but the earliest they can deliver is next week. I needed that turkey for my Christmas dinner, so that's not going to work. I need a refund right away. Save yourself the trouble and shop somewhere else if you want them to handle orders correctly.
They used to be amazing, but things have really slipped. The steaks are fantastic about 75 percent of the time, though shipping takes forever even when you pay extra. It's disappointing how much they've changed. Now the filets are glued together from multiple pieces instead of being whole, so an 8 ounce filet might actually be 3 to 5 chunks stuck together. Some of the packages aren't sealed properly either, leaving you with gray or greenish meat. And good luck calling their customer service because you've only got about a 30 percent shot at getting someone who's actually nice. We used to love ordering from them, but now we just skip them.
The steaks themselves are honestly the best, way better than restaurant quality. So why only 2 stars? The shipping is a disaster. I dropped over $700 and you'd think they could keep my steaks actually frozen when they ship them. I'm in Arizona where it gets 115 degrees out here, so wouldn't you throw in some extra dry ice to make sure things stay cold? And getting everything to me on the promised delivery date? Nope. One box showed up completely bloody and most of the others had partially thawed out, so those aren't going to taste great anymore. They're replacing the bloody steaks but they're saying no to the filets and flat iron.
Works great for an average family dinner. It's a nice spot for a laid back meal with family. The food hits the spot, the portions are reasonable, and the vibe is chill. Not super fancy or anything, but you can count on it for a straightforward dinner.
This has been the worst experience. I placed an order a week ago and haven't heard a peep since. When I finally called to check on it, they told me the order got cancelled without any explanation.
The product quality is okay, but their marketing after you buy is absolutely relentless and never stops, which is honestly pretty weird. I've blocked their phone calls and emails because unsubscribing apparently doesn't actually work.
The actual steak quality was good on my first order, even though I had to deal with some issues getting it delivered. But my second order turned into a nightmare. The customer service person was incredibly rude with a mean attitude the whole time. Then my package got messed up by the shipping company and never showed up, and Kansas City Steak knew all about it. After tons of back and forth emails, I finally got my refund, but the worst part was the customer service rep never even apologized or said sorry for anything. When I called back and spoke to a supervisor, she didn't care at all and just said the shipping company lost it. When I asked if they could throw in some kind of gesture to make up for the hassle, she basically said tough luck. Why would I ever order from them again? That's some pretty cold and pathetic customer service right there.
We ordered on December 13th and were told it would arrive by December 21st at the latest. By December 20th, the order still hadn't shipped, so we reached out to customer service and they told us it had already shipped but the tracking info just hadn't come through yet. That was a lie. It didn't actually ship until December 21st. Because of all the holiday chaos, it was on the road for 6 days and didn't arrive until December 27th. The dry ice in the box was completely gone and the meat looked really questionable. The biggest problem was that customer service straight up lied to us about it being shipped. We would've appreciated if they'd just been honest and told us it hadn't gone out as planned and would be delayed.
