Box Reviews
Box has received overwhelmingly negative feedback, with shoppers reporting serious issues across billing, account access, and file management. The most common complaint involves unexpected charges and subscription problems, including cases where users were charged multiple times for seats they did not purchase or faced difficulty canceling subscriptions. Additionally, shoppers describe frequent login failures, case-sensitive email handling that prevents account access, and critical file corruption issues where empty file copies were created during transfers, resulting in data loss.
A small portion of reviewers appear satisfied with the service, but they represent a distinct minority among the feedback. The vast majority of shoppers express frustration with customer service responsiveness, particularly regarding billing disputes and technical issues. Many explicitly recommend avoiding the platform and suggest exploring alternative cloud storage or file-sharing solutions.
They get you interested with their free two week trial, which you need just to access a document someone sent you. Then they hit you with a monthly fee of $17. Next problem is the system won't recognize your email so you can't access your files. Then you get charged $840.40 for an annual subscription with no way to stop it. The only way I could stop the charges was to cancel my credit card completely.
Started with a free account, then signed up and paid for three team members. The system told me I didn't actually have a paid account, so I went through the whole process again. Ended up getting charged for six seats. The sales team was helpful and tried getting customer service to fix it, but they said there was nothing they could do. Some customer service that turned out to be.
Really disappointing overall. Files update slowly, and the system keeps old versions which eats up storage space like crazy. The worst part happened when I tried to move some files out - instead of transferring the actual content, it moved empty copies. When I tried to fix it by moving them back, it copied the empty versions again and I lost everything. Now it's not even saving backup copies automatically anymore. The whole platform is frustrating. I'm only using it because my school requires it for file sharing.
I have to deal with this service because others send me files through it. The login and password reset features simply don't work. Turns out the system treats email addresses as case-sensitive usernames, which is insane in 2025. Stay far away from this company. If they can't handle something this basic correctly, why would anyone risk storing important files there?
Total ripoff company. I've been trying to get assistance from their billing team and can't get anywhere. They withdrew money from my account without authorization and won't do anything about it. I can't reach anyone in management or even talk to someone based in the US. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
Garbage company. Go with someone else. Tons of better alternatives exist. These people will just bleed you dry with charges. Absolutely horrible experience.
Don't ever give them your payment information. Their terms of service basically say you're handing over everything. They tell you that cancellation requires a phone call but there's no phone number and nobody answers your messages. Reducing the number of users on your account actually results in charges, which they won't reverse. So if you had 20 users last year and now only need 19, dropping to 19 seats gets you billed for 39 instead. They're incredibly arrogant and dismissive. I switched to them because of their security promises, but given how poorly run this company is, I don't trust their security at all anymore.
The software itself is solid but their customer support is basically nonexistent. File previews for most formats work great no matter what device you're using. The sharing features are well designed and helpful. You can easily share folders with certain people or let anyone upload without creating an account. Honestly their file sharing beats what the competition offers. Would be nice if you could set an expiration date on sharing with individuals rather than just through links. And it'd help to see everything that's currently shared. The offline file feature is excellent, especially how it keeps a temporary offline preview of files you look at in case you realize you need them later but forgot to save them. The support side though is basically nonexistent. I had an issue and spent months trying to get help without success, and I really did try multiple different contact methods. Since I get it free through school it's amazing. But if I had to pay the monthly cost, I wouldn't get it. They charge quite a bit and don't offer a one time purchase option.
The actual service works fine but the customer support is basically nonexistent. You can't talk to anyone except sales guys who just want to pitch you upgrades. Steer clear at all costs.
Serious overcharging happening here. There's zero real customer support, no way to reach a human, nothing by phone, tickets and emails go unanswered. The only thing that gets results is paying more money for additional user seats. When I tried to fix an accidental $1,680 charge, I got complete silence. I opened multiple support requests and sent emails but nothing worked. Even filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and still got nowhere. Eventually I had to shut down my credit card just to stop them from charging me. Absolutely unacceptable.
They're straight up con artists. Full on scammers with no integrity. Not worth anyone's time or money.
Their support team has absolutely no accountability and lacks any real skill. Getting responses takes forever, solving problems that need urgent attention drags on indefinitely, and they show zero concern when they mess up and damage your business.
Got a paid business account and it's shocking that they lock basic security features like multi-factor authentication and password requirements behind their premium tiers. I understand keeping advanced security tools for higher plans, but preventing essential protections on lower tier business accounts is a deal breaker. How am I supposed to run a secure business when I can't enforce basic security practices?
This is a scam. I was using a QR code reader for something else and accidentally tapped an advertisement. I clicked on what looked like a 0.01 amount and confirmed without realizing I'd just committed to a ridiculously expensive subscription.
