The ship felt overcrowded to me. No matter where you go, you feel like you're constantly in line. We brought our two grandkids who were eight and ten, which turned out to be a bad idea. The January cruise had mostly babies and very young children, with only a few older kids. The deck pools were packed shoulder to shoulder. Kids got the same uninspiring food every day. Breakfast and lunch choices were limited, especially for grown-ups. Dinner at the restaurants was better quality but repetitive. It seemed like there wasn't much thought put into adult entertainment. While the kids were in the club, there was basically nothing for adults to do. We cruise a lot, and honestly I felt ripped off for what we paid. Every other cruise line we've used offers better value than Disney. The staff were nice though. It's now been several weeks and Disney still hasn't responded to my complaint.
The Disney Dream was wonderful and we loved practically everything. The island destination was incredible and definitely one of the best parts. Food was better than we expected with lots of choices and consistently great quality. The crew was fantastic, super friendly and on top of everything. The ship is maintained well, though you notice age in some spots, and we'd probably prefer the newer ship classes next time.

I came on this cruise with my disabled children. This was our first Disney experience after many wonderful sailings with another cruise line. They wouldn't let me request special menus for my son based on his safe food groups, which the other company always provided. I couldn't walk my son into the kids club even briefly to help him adjust, which would have made him comfortable staying there. The other cruise line had trained staff who understood transitions and were supportive. Disney didn't. As a single adult with two disabled kids, the character meet process was frustrating. They told me to leave the kids sitting unattended while I waited an hour in line, then go get them when it was our turn. That's a real safety problem. Both children had disability passes but Disney offered no special accommodations. We booked wheelchair support to board, which was handled well by another company. But getting wheelchairs at checkout was impossible. The staff said they couldn't let wheelchairs leave the ship, ignoring my daughter's mobility needs. They could have walked us off to make sure the chairs came back, but didn't.
I'm really disappointed with Disney's Vacation Protection Plan and their partnership with AON insurance. When I needed to cancel a couple months before my cruise, I found out the Cancel For Any Reason coverage only covers 75 percent. Then AON denied my claim for the remaining 25 percent of my non-refundable costs. All I got was a Future Travel Certificate, which doesn't help if I'm not planning another Disney cruise. AON has a bad track record for denying claims, and Disney choosing to work with them says a lot about their priorities. I expected better from a brand known for magical vacations. This felt more like they were just trying to keep my money instead of protecting customers. I'd tell anyone booking to read the fine print on that protection plan and look at other insurance choices. Disney really needs to reconsider their deal with AON and offer better refund flexibility. Until they do, I can't recommend this to other travelers.

We just finished a week long Caribbean sailing on the Fantasy and it was perfect. Character meet-and-greets, helpful and friendly staff, tons of activities for everyone, delicious food, and Disney magic at every turn.
Overall, this was a fantastic cruise experience. There's plenty to do for the kids, which makes sense for Disney, but adults have lots of options too. The only real complaint we had was with booking shore excursions ahead of time. We were ready right when bookings opened, but everything sold out immediately. It seems like those spots go to concierge guests or people higher up in the loyalty program.
My son has autism and an access card. I asked if he could skip waiting in lines. They told me no and said there's no special treatment for any children. They don't recognize access cards either.
We brought our three and five year old grandsons along with our daughter and son-in-law, and it was an amazing experience for the kids with all the Disney magic. The food variety could have been better though, and what we had was just okay. We got concierge veranda cabins and would definitely recommend them for the extras you get. They managed to get us into sold-out shows and excursions. The concierge lounge also had excellent snacks and drinks available. It's a great family getaway overall.
