Gertrude Hawk Chocolates Reviews
Gertrude Hawk Chocolates receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 8 reviews averaging 1.9 out of 5. The most frequently cited complaints center on high shipping costs (with some shoppers paying $12 for ground shipping), unfavorable customer service responses when seeking shipping adjustments, and ingredient concerns regarding bioengineered ingredients and additives like TBHQ. Multiple reviewers reported disappointment with product quality, describing the chocolate as tasting cheap or hollow compared to expectations. Some shoppers also experienced order fulfillment issues, such as items arriving missing or unavailable.
A small minority of reviewers express satisfaction with their purchases, though these positive experiences are heavily outweighed by negative ones. The ingredient transparency and product quality issues appear to be significant barriers to purchase for health-conscious consumers. Shoppers seem particularly frustrated by the combination of premium pricing, high shipping fees, and perceived quality that does not justify the cost.
Ordered four items for Easter delivery since I live far away and this was my first time ordering for my kids. They love these chocolates so I bit the bullet and paid the outrageous $12 shipping fee. Got two items each for them. When the package arrived, I only had three items. The form said the six peanut butter Easter ones were unavailable. Nobody called or emailed to give me a heads up, which is completely unacceptable considering I placed the order Monday and didn't get it until Saturday. I'm done with this company and I'm going to tell my whole family across the state to shop elsewhere. I should have gone with another local chocolatier from the start.
Ordered two chocolate boxes and got them on sale with an extra promotion, but still had to pay $12 for shipping. Thirty minutes later I got a text about free ground shipping being available. When I called to ask about it, the representative was polite enough but didn't actually help. She told me I'd need to place a completely new order using the promo codes to get the discount and free shipping, then cancel the first order and wait 5 to 10 days for the refund. Having worked retail myself, I know full well they could have voided my same-day order right then. Basically they're asking me to get charged twice because of their mistake in not presenting me with all the shipping options upfront. That's really disappointing, especially around Valentine's Day when they should be going the extra mile with promotions and shipping deals. Won't be ordering here again.
Not interested in buying from Gertrude Hawk because they're using bioengineered ingredients in their chocolate. Most folks probably don't realize this is GMO stuff. I'd be a customer if they switched to making real chocolate without all the genetic modification.
Visited Scranton and stopped by the Gertrude Hawk shop. Grabbed the dark sea salt caramels and some milk chocolate truffles. The taste was honestly like those cheap, hollow chocolate bunnies you get at discount stores. Really disappointed. Won't be buying from them again.
My husband picked up the chocolate covered almonds and chocolate covered raisins from them yesterday. When I checked the ingredients, I noticed it lists bioengineered foods but doesn't specify which ones are GMO. Even worse, the label mentions TBHQ as an ingredient, which is a preservative made from petroleum. It's basically butane mixed in to keep the oils fresh. TBHQ is basically lighter fluid. I took both packages back right away and will never purchase their chocolate again unless they stop using contaminated and unhealthy additives.
Regret my purchase. Their shipping approach doesn't work well for items that need to stay fresh. One of their corporate staff members was incredibly rude and disrespectful to deal with. Not ordering from them ever again.
Really enjoy their chocolate selection. The raspberry Smidgens are particularly great.
These chocolates are fantastic and I'm obsessed with them! The Thick and Rich peanut butter milk chocolate is my go-to, my husband can't get enough of the peanut butter meltaways and the chocolate peanut butter pretzels, and my sister raves about the dark chocolate lava. Perfect when you need to send something nice to someone.
