Magellans Reviews
Magellans is rated 1.5 out of 5 by 16 shoppers, with the vast majority of reviews expressing serious dissatisfaction. Shoppers report significant problems with order management, including items stuck on backorder without notification, difficulty tracking orders, and a website that frequently malfunctions. Return and exchange processes have been a major source of frustration, with customers describing them as unnecessarily complicated, citing unhelpful customer service representatives, long hold times, and unexpected return processing fees. Several reviewers noted they previously shopped at Travelsmith and found Magellans to be a disappointing replacement that lacks products they relied on.
The few positive aspects mentioned in the rating distribution do not clearly emerge from recent review excerpts, suggesting any satisfied customers are a small minority. Recurring complaints center on poor operational execution: orders trapped in backorder limbo, inadequate communication from the company, website functionality issues, and returns that take months to process despite repeated customer contact. Customers describe feeling misled about product availability and frustrated by difficulty reaching effective customer support, leading to strong warnings against shopping with this retailer.
My order was stuck on backorder for three months after I placed it. They never told me this when I bought it, and it wasn't mentioned in the order confirmation email either. Only found out by tracking the order number. Getting them to cancel the whole thing took almost half an hour. Their website couldn't even pull up the order despite me giving the number, and I had to navigate through tons of phone options before reaching an actual person. And just when I thought it was done, the agent tried to convince me not to cancel! It was incredibly frustrating.
I wish I could give them lower than one star. I bought several items from Magellan for a trip and need to return a few of them. Their whole ordering system is terrible and you can't easily monitor your orders. The website barely functions and I had to call customer service multiple times. The representatives weren't very helpful either. For the three items I'm returning, each priced at $12.95, I have to pay $13.95 per item just to send them back after already paying to get them delivered. It's completely unreasonable. I'm never purchasing from this place again.
Worst. Company. Ever. They have no business ethics whatsoever. They'll take your money and disappear. I sent back something in early October and got an email saying they were reviewing my return. I've contacted them by phone and email countless times since then. Three months have gone by and they still have my $145. They operate like criminals and need to be shut down immediately.
Totally ridiculous situation. I ordered boots in my regular size and bought two pairs in different colors. They're slightly too short so I wanted a straight exchange. What a nightmare. The first representative was hard to understand and wasn't helpful at all. I requested a supervisor and was told she'd just repeat the same thing. That really upset me, so I insisted on being transferred anyway. Bottom line: my refund will take four to six weeks. I already spent $21.99 on shipping plus some mystery $1.99 fee. After arguing, she agreed to refund those charges, but now I have to pay $12.99 to ship the items back for an exchange that's not even available. I'd have to place a completely new order and deal with their painfully slow delivery again. This whole thing wasted thirty minutes of my time. I told her I'm just sending everything back and I'm done with them for good. I really miss Travel Smith. Seriously consider shopping elsewhere if you care about reasonable wait times and reasonable shipping costs. This customer service experience was a complete disaster.
Just adding to what everyone else has said. I used to love Travelsmith for all my travel stuff, from clothes to luggage to accessories. I'd even bought my husband multiple pairs of their travel pants and sport coats with special zippered pockets to protect against pickpockets. Magellan doesn't carry those items anymore. When I found something similar, I ordered in the same size as two other pairs I own from different brands. They were way too big, at least two inches larger around the waist. Magellan charges $12.99 just to return things, so I used their label and box and dropped it off at USPS like they told me to. It never went anywhere beyond the regional sorting facility where it says waiting for pickup. USPS says Magellan needs to file a claim since they paid for the shipping. Still haven't heard back from them. This tells me everything I need to know. NEVER SHOP WITH MAGELLAN.
Watch out. I sent back an unworn jacket in perfect condition because the fit wasn't right and they charged me almost $20 just to process the return. Felt like I got taken advantage of.
My experience was absolutely terrible. Someone gave me a Magellan's gift card to buy some travel luggage. I attempted to place an order six times and every single attempt failed. Each time I got transferred to a Level 2 representative, then after waiting about ten minutes I'd get disconnected. Hands down the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I would never suggest this company to anybody.
I bought two sleep masks and now I have eight separate emails about the order. First they said they didn't have the color I wanted. Then they shipped only one mask, bumped up the shipping charge, and claim that I only ordered one. But I have their confirmation email right in front of me showing two masks. I'm done with them. Won't be ordering from Magellan's anymore.
Two major issues keep me from recommending this store. First, I got several hundred dollars worth of gift certificates but discovered they can't be used on the website at all. You have to call their customer service team, who then needs to transfer you to Level 2 support just to place an order by phone. If they're busy, they take your details and call back later. It's shocking that in 2025 a web retailer would operate this way. I went through the same hassle seven months ago and was told they were fixing the online system, but nothing changed. Second, the product selection is incredibly small. If you got a gift card from them as a present, you'll probably already own most of what they sell. Finding something worth buying becomes a real challenge.
Shipping costs are way too high and not clearly displayed anywhere until you dig into their site. When you get to checkout, a mysterious $1.50 carrier surcharge suddenly shows up out of nowhere. They sent me a promotional email saying 10% off if I signed up for their list, but the offer disappeared. I called to ask how to apply it. Instead of just helping me, the rep started pitching some paid membership program that supposedly covers places like Walmart. That made no sense. I explained I just wanted the discount they'd offered me. She claimed she'd put my email in the system and send the coupon. I gave it to her and never got it. The sad part is this place used to be reliable and they do sell decent products. Too bad they've changed so much. Update: Still nothing from them even after I talked to their service line and sent messages. Just disappointing.
I ordered some items online and put them on my credit card. A few days later I noticed a mysterious monthly charge on my bill for a membership I never signed up for. Something on their checkout must have been already checked off without me realizing, but I definitely never clicked anything to authorize an ongoing monthly fee. No emails warned me about this charge either. It's really unethical and deceptive what they're doing. Make sure you watch your credit card closely if you buy from them. You could end up paying close to $18 a month for something you never agreed to, and you might not catch it for a while. I won't be shopping there again. They also claim to be BBB accredited on their site but when I looked them up, they're not even listed. Order at your own risk.
Really happy with how this purchase went. My order showed up in just five days and the items I got, including a shirt, pants, and wallet, are excellent quality. No problems at all with Magellan's. I was hesitant based on some of the negative feedback I'd seen, but our transaction was smooth. I knocked off one star because we never got order confirmation or shipping update emails. Had to go check the website myself and make a call to find out what was happening. Overall though, we're satisfied customers and would order again.
They used to be great. Not anymore. First order got cancelled. Tried placing another one. Then they put me on hold asking for the number off the back of my credit card plus some extension code. All of this without even calling me first. Their whole customer service setup doesn't make sense. I still haven't received a simple order and it's almost been two months of dealing with this.
This is my second time ordering from them recently for a vacation and both times the items showed as in stock on their website. Processing took about two weeks, then I learned the main item I wanted was back ordered and wouldn't arrive before my trip. Here's another annoying thing: they charged full shipping upfront even though I'm only getting a luggage tag now and won't receive two larger gel cushions later. That's apparently just how they operate. When I checked their site later, that same back ordered item was listed as available. Seems like Magellan's doesn't let customers know about back orders upfront. This is supposedly a travel company, so they should understand people need items for actual trips and can't wait months. I asked about expedited shipping for the delayed item but they don't offer that. I'm pretty disappointed since my experiences with them used to be much better.
This company used to have a good reputation. Now they're running straight up scams. When I tried placing an order online, a message popped up saying they couldn't process it and to call customer service. So they placed my order for some camisoles over the phone and then told me the state required shipping fee on a $50 purchase was $45. I immediately wanted to speak to management and cancel. Instead of helping me, they pushed a VIP membership plan. Really? Just be careful and avoid ordering from this site.
