Marmot Reviews
Marmot receives highly polarized reviews, with shoppers split sharply between those who praise the brand's durability and lifetime warranty support and those frustrated by customer service interactions. Long-time customers report satisfaction with product quality and reliable warranty claims handled smoothly over decades. However, the majority of recent reviews describe difficult experiences with the support department, including unclear warranty procedures, requests for extensive documentation, and perceived reluctance to honor coverage. Some shoppers also report issues with product deterioration during storage and concerns about advertised discounts not materializing at checkout.
The core complaint centers on customer service inconsistency and warranty claim friction rather than initial product quality. Multiple reviewers noted that Marmot's lifetime warranty promise does not always translate into a seamless claims process, with some customers reporting they had to jump through numerous verification hoops or provide excessive photos and evidence. A few reviewers expressed concern about material degradation in jackets and rain gear even under light use or storage conditions, though others credited the brand with standing behind such claims when contacted.
Would give them zero stars if that was possible. Their support is absolutely terrible and among the worst I've experienced. We got a 6 person tent and set it up one time. The poles bent on us. We emailed asking about replacement poles and they said under warranty we could get an entire new tent, but we'd have to mark it with permanent marker first. Since we're up north, I was nervous about getting a replacement shipped internationally with all the extra fees involved. They promised it would come from a Canadian warehouse so I felt better. I asked again if we could just swap out the poles since the tent was basically brand new from one use. They wouldn't budge and said they could only send a full replacement. We marked the tent, sent photos, and requested a new one. Then they told us they didn't have any available at their warehouse. WHY DIDN'T THEY CHECK THAT BEFORE ASKING US TO DESTROY OUR TENT!? After countless back and forth messages over 6 weeks, the only thing they could give us was a 3 person lightweight tent. That's literally half what we paid. Now I'm stuck with a ruined tent and a 3P tent that's completely useless to me. Even selling both wouldn't get me close to what I spent on the original.
The inside lining of my Precip Rain Jacket started coming apart and peeling in different spots after 4 years of hardly any use. I only wore it a few times in the city when it rained. Nothing extreme like backcountry trips, I never washed it, didn't sweat in it, no bug spray, sunscreen, ocean salt or anything else that damages materials. When I told them what was happening, they asked if I'd been washing it. I said no because it didn't need washing. They then blamed the problem on not cleaning it plus sweat and salt exposure. I explained that since I rarely used it in the city there was no dirt to clean, no salt water contact since I'm not at the beach in the rain, and sweat wasn't a factor. Then they just rejected my claim with no real explanation, even though the material is covered by a lifetime guarantee that includes both the fabric and stitching. It's frustrating because I've seen online that tons of other people have this exact issue with this jacket. Some other premium brands would have replaced it no questions asked when the material failed under warranty. Really let down by both the quality and how they handled this.
Awful experience with their support department. Grabbed a rain jacket and pants and never put them on. They stayed in a closet for over 10 years. When I finally got them out, the waterproof lining had completely deteriorated and crumbled. I called about their lifetime warranty and they made me jump through a ton of hoops. They wanted specific pictures and sent me back asking for different shots. Eventually they offered to give me credit. Then they wanted me to write MWN on the garments and show them pictures. But I'd already tossed them! Once they learned I'm living outside the country now, they said no warranty because I didn't send the photo with 'MWN' on it. So having the gear used internationally voids the warranty? Even though I'm a US citizen and bought this in the US? What kind of nonsense is that????? They put me through all this just to use that as their excuse to deny me. I'm never buying from this company again!
Been buying from Marmot, The North Face, and Patagonia for over three decades. The reason I stick with all three is because of how well made their equipment is and that they stand behind it with lifetime warranties. In all that time I've used their warranties more than once. When it comes to how quickly they respond, how easy it is to work with them, and how much they care about solving your problem, Marmot beats the other two by a mile. I've put their gear through mountaineering expeditions, backcountry hiking, winter sports, and camping. They really demonstrate how much they believe in what they make…Marmot is staying competitive in a tough market and they're doing it right!!
Steer clear of this outfit. They advertise a 15% new customer discount that you won't actually get. Don't fall for it!
Years ago I purchased a fantastic down vest that held up great. Eventually the zipper quit working and I reached out to them. Customer service was excellent and they gave me a couple options. I chose to order their updated down vest model as a replacement. Unfortunately the newer version disappointed me. The quality just wasn't there and it didn't provide the same warmth as my old one. The old vest was 100% goose down while this new one is only 80% recycled down mixed with 20% Kapok. Even the shell fabric is recycled material and nowhere near the standard I'd come to expect from this brand. Really let down by how much the product has changed.
Will be a brand loyalist from here on out. I own an older waterproof raincoat that eventually started flaking on the inside coating. Had no clue where or when I'd bought it or what I paid for it. I reached out through their site and gave them photos and details as they requested. They looked at everything and said it wasn't fixable, so they gave me a very generous credit based on what they figured the original purchase price was. I grabbed a new waterproof coat in a similar style to my old one. Got it in the mail a few weeks after I filed the claim, which was super fast. I'm hooked on this company for life!
Reached out to their support team 6 weeks back and got an email saying they'd follow up in a couple weeks. Time went by without hearing anything, so I called their support number and wasted precious minutes trying to get through…After looking at other customer feedback, I'm definitely not sending my nearly unworn jacket with a badly sewn zipper to them for repair. Going to find another option to fix it myself. I'm finished with this brand. Switching over to Patagonia like everyone else seems to be doing. Really disappointed…
Skip this brand entirely. Got a Marmot Eclipse EvoDry jacket about a year and a half ago and from the beginning water didn't bead up on it properly. These days it just soaks right through. Bought it on sale directly from them but the regular asking price is $250. The tag says "STAY DRY GUARANTEE - A lifetime of rain protection". I've got all the original tags, my receipt, and the original box. I've been trying to reach out to see about a fix or swap and they won't contact me back. I filed a claim with Marmot Warranty and Repair and they were supposed to respond by now but haven't. This company isn't what it once was. They're basically lying and not standing behind anything. The products are bad and customer service is nonexistent! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME!!!
Every single step of this purchase has been a headache. The website keeps glitching. I put in my 15% signup code, but the order wouldn't go through even though my card details were right. I tried again and got told the discount code was already used. Created a fresh account with a different email to get a new code. Completed an order that time and paid through my phone's wallet. They sent my confirmation to a completely different email (probably linked to my payment method). The confirmation showed my size as Large when I'd definitely selected Medium. Went to change it through the confirmation email but the system said there were no orders under that address. Emailed their customer help but heard nothing, so I phoned them this morning. The agent said they couldn't "alter" an order that's already in the system and I'd have to wait for the large to arrive, then send it back. That's wasteful and completely unnecessary when it hadn't shipped yet, I told him. He said too bad, nothing can be done. I asked for a supervisor. He said someone would call me back within 48 hours.
Their support basically doesn't exist. They cancelled my order through email even though they'd already sent a confirmation, but wouldn't tell me why. I spent more than an hour on hold calling their support department trying to get someone to help me place the order again. When I finally got a representative, he was oddly confrontational and defensive when I asked straightforward questions about my delivery timeline. He wouldn't give me straight answers. His accent was pretty thick and it seemed like he wasn't totally following what I was saying. The whole interaction felt weird and unpleasant.
Hands down the poorest customer service I've ever dealt with. Refunds take forever and you have to call them just to get your cash back!!!!More than 3 weeks passed from when I sent in my return and the amount they sent wasn't even correct 😐. The gear itself is solid, but their service side really needs an overhaul!!!!
Wish I could leave a zero star rating instead. Placed a coat order on Black Friday and it's still not here. Their customer service team is useless. Apparently the shade I wanted might be gone but they can't confirm that. Nobody returns my messages. It's a complete mess.
Called several times waiting on the line for over half an hour with no one picking up. Eventually got through but the order's already being processed and can't be stopped. They told me to ring back to cancel. Who has time to sit around on endless hold with customer service?
Absolutely terrible experience, deserves minus 5 stars. My order was supposed to come with a complete tent package (the actual tent, poles, stakes, bag, footprint and rain fly) but I only got the rain fly (tent, poles, stakes missing). When I got in touch, they told me it was my error. I showed them screenshots of the order and even pointed out the description showing what was included (the photo on my receipt didn't even show the rain fly). They came back saying there's no way I got a tent at that price. I explained that the tent was deeply discounted and I had a 50% friends and family code applied. They brushed me off and insisted it was my mistake, though they offered 50% off a pricier tent that wasn't what I'd ordered. I asked them to at least send stakes and poles so the rain fly I got would be functional. They flat out refused because they said it would "too closely resemble a tent". Absolutely ridiculous. I've been loyal to this company for almost 20 years and am done promoting them because of their misleading marketing and unwillingness to fix anything.
