Nanoleaf Reviews
Nanoleaf is rated 1.5 out of 5 by 21 shoppers, and the overwhelming majority of reviews are highly negative. Shoppers report severe issues with order fulfillment, including months-long delays, shipments that are lost or returned without resolution, incomplete packages, and unresponsive customer support. Many reviewers describe the company as unresponsive to emails, shuffling customers between support representatives, and abandoning communication entirely. Product quality concerns are also mentioned, including controllers that fail, broken QR codes for app downloads, and items that arrive defective.
The few positive reviews (10 percent five-star ratings) are vastly outnumbered by complaints. Shipping and order issues dominate the negative feedback, with customers reporting orders placed months ago still unfulfilled or stuck in carrier limbo. Customer service responsiveness is a critical pain point, with reviewers describing endless email chains, bounced messages, and support teams that require customers to restart their cases from scratch rather than reviewing previous communications.
Placed an order in early December for over 200 euros and I'm still waiting. No responses to my emails, no action, nothing. They just took the money and vanished like some kind of shady startup. The fake looking product pictures all over their site don't help either. Definitely don't waste your cash on this company.
I've had my Nanoleaf Lines for about three years. One of the controllers eventually stopped working, so I submitted a support ticket. Things started fine but then I got stuck in this never ending email chain about how to fix it. Out of nowhere, all my previous emails started bouncing back with messages saying the email address was no longer being monitored. They sent me back to the website to submit a new ticket and basically told me to restart the whole process from scratch. We were about to get to the point where they'd send me a replacement but somehow they just reset everything.
I'd rate this less than one star if possible. Placed my order in November and still haven't received anything. It shipped once but came back because the carrier didn't provide complete information. They then told me they were out of stock but would send it as soon as inventory came in. Well, it's February now and the item has been back in stock for a while but nothing's been shipped. I'm done waiting and I'm going to request a chargeback from my bank.
Ordered two kits as part of a Christmas sale at a discount price. Only got half of what I paid for when it showed up. Once I realized the package was incomplete, I reached out to their support team. What followed was three weeks of going back and forth, getting shuffled between different support people who kept asking me to start over from the beginning, and they eventually wanted photos even though I'd already unpacked everything. This was an absolute nightmare. I wouldn't purchase from them again.
Someone gave me this lamp as a present and it's obvious they weren't being nice about it! The thing looks low quality, and the QR code to download the control app is completely broken. This is definitely going straight to the trash where it belongs.
Got this Nanoleaf as a gift and didn't open it right away. Fast forward about two years and when I finally tried to set it up, nothing worked. The product was broken straight out of the box, but since the warranty had expired by that point, the company flat out refused to help or send me anything new. Pretty disappointed with how they handled this honestly. Save your money and look elsewhere.
Ordered something on November 21st. It's now December 26th and it still hasn't shipped.
Their site says you get free shipping on orders over 50 pounds. I ordered something for 97 pounds and they still charged me 8 pounds for shipping. When I contacted them about it, they asked me to send them a link from their website that mentioned the 50 pound threshold. I did exactly that. After back and forth with 12 different emails, they claimed it said 100 pounds instead. They just ignored what I sent them. Under consumer and trade laws they should probably honor the 50 pound deal anyway. At minimum they could have refunded the 8 pounds as a courtesy, but they didn't.
A week goes by with zero response from their support team and my order never ships. My order status is just stuck on preparing and nobody's doing anything. I've been shopping online for decades and this is honestly the most bizarre thing that's ever happened to me. What on earth is going on at their headquarters? This is completely unacceptable.
We moved into our new home three months ago and set up Nanoleaf Matter Downlights. Nothing but problems since day one. The lights drop offline constantly, won't respond to commands, and you just can't rely on them. It's marketed as smart lighting but it's anything but smart. We've spent ridiculous amounts of time trying to get them stable and reliable with zero luck. We've decided to have our electrician remove these and install something we can actually count on. If you're building a smart home, you definitely don't want these.
We just moved into our new place about three months ago and installed Nanoleaf Matter Downlights. They've been a complete letdown. These lights are constantly going offline, not responding to commands, and just generally unreliable. For a product that's supposed to be smart lighting, it's been dumb as a rock. We've wasted way too much time trying to troubleshoot and get them working properly. At this point we're having our electrician rip them all out and put in something that actually works. Don't get these if you care about stability in your smart home.
The hardware itself isn't terrible, but the app has been garbage from day one. Since you need the app to do basically everything with these things, that's a huge problem. It worked okay for about two years and then everything went downhill when I switched to a new router. Getting all the panels reconnected took an entire week plus extra equipment and it was absolutely insane. I had to reset three different panel groups, tried connection via NFC, manual setup, WiFi, turned off 5GHz, changed my SSID, changed my password, restarted multiple times, switched to 2.4GHz... seriously? Who is writing this software? It's absolutely ridiculous.
Got two multicolor floor lamps sent to me. After waiting three weeks for shipping, which was already way too long, the lamps finally arrived. The first one wouldn't turn on at all. It's not an app problem or anything like that, the power button just doesn't do anything and there's no light. The second lamp worked for about twenty minutes before it quit too. UPDATE: The support team actually responded really nicely and offered to send me replacements.
I bought a complete Nanoleaf Elements setup with seven panels, power supply, and controller, and it worked fine at first. Then suddenly the panels wouldn't connect to my app anymore. I've been stuck for three weeks dealing with their support team and my system still doesn't work at all. They sent me two different replacement controllers. I did everything they asked: resets, tested each panel individually, confirmed my WiFi band, ran diagnostics, tried HomeKit pairing, everything. Still nothing works and the app keeps saying panels aren't detected. I gave them detailed reports and test results showing the problem affects every single panel. Now they've stopped responding for days. For a product at this price point, it's unacceptable. I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and I'm pursuing a refund through my credit card company because the product doesn't work and the company has completely abandoned me. Don't bother with this brand unless you enjoy wasting money.
