What Shoppers Say About ABCmouse.com
ABCmouse.com receives uniformly negative feedback from shoppers, with all 15 reviews rating the service at 1.0 out of 5 stars. The most serious and recurring complaint involves unauthorized or persistent billing practices: customers report being charged continuously despite canceling subscriptions, being charged for free trials they never completed, and experiencing difficulty obtaining refunds. Multiple reviewers indicate they have initiated chargebacks through their banks and describe the billing practices as potentially fraudulent.
Customer service emerges as a secondary but significant issue. Shoppers report long hold times, circular support interactions, unhelpful automated chatbots, and difficulty reaching human representatives. Several customers note that cancellation processes are confusing or deliberately obstructed, with subscription options that cannot be easily terminated. One reviewer reported charges continuing for years after cancellation without notification. The lack of clear purchase confirmations and billing transparency compounds customer frustration.

Sorted by: Most recentI'm being charged monthly for something I never signed up for. When I tried calling their number, I got a message saying customer service was down for maintenance. Their website chat keeps asking the same questions over and over with zero resolution. It's all just robotic responses.
I started a free trial through a cashback program about a month back and thought I had cancelled. Today, PayPal informed me I'd been charged 12.99 dollars to the company without any warning. I went to the website and also got the app hoping to find how to cancel. Neither one has any obvious way to cancel your subscription, and the interfaces are pretty bare bones.
Pretty disappointing overall. First, the price is way too high for what you get. Second, there's no point in having your kids advance ahead on this platform when they'll just go back to the same pace as everyone else at school. Every lesson is designed to fit the whole class whether kids are struggling or gifted. Learning through screens can't compare to real experiences like taking your child outside to see, touch, and smell actual nature. A trip to the woods where kids can count trees or explore is worth infinitely more than an expensive app. The personal interaction and teaching that families have passed down forever beats screen time every time. There are simpler, cheaper ways to teach shapes and puzzles that don't require paying for pricey platforms like this.
On day one of my free trial, they hit my credit card with a 60 dollar charge. There was zero notice about this happening. When I emailed them to complain, I got no apology and no explanation for why they'd charge someone at the start of a 30 day trial. Plus they add a 1 dollar monthly subscription fee. The cost is completely unreasonable. I'd pick Reading Eggs over this any time.
We tried a trial for our three year old on the iPad and found the interface really clunky and bad. It seems like they just wrapped their website in the app without actually making it work well on tablets. The layout is confusing for young kids. Since they market in the UK but the product is US only, there's no British language option available, which will confuse younger users. They've definitely overlooked some fundamental design principles here.
