Harney & Sons Fine Teas Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Harney & Sons Fine Teas
Harney & Sons Fine Teas has a polarized customer base. Long-time loyalists praise the quality and variety of their teas, particularly loose leaf options like their decaf cinnamon black tea and various Earl Grey blends. These satisfied customers appreciate the ability to customize their orders with different flavors and describe the tea as among the best available.
However, a significant portion of shoppers report serious issues with product consistency and customer service. Complaints center on receiving defective tea bags with poor sealing that leak during brewing, inconsistent quality between orders of the same product, and frustratingly unresponsive customer service when attempting to resolve problems. Shoppers describe being unable to modify orders before processing and experiencing long delays or no resolution after initiating returns, leaving them frustrated despite initial satisfaction with product quality.

Sorted by: Most recentI've been enjoying Harney and Sons tea for over twenty years. Starting my day with a fresh cup of one of their wonderful teas is part of my routine. I love switching it up between different Earl Greys, Paris, English Breakfast and other varieties. Sometimes I'll mix in spearmint or lavender to give it a fun twist.
Really great teas here, some of the best you can find. I especially recommend the loose leaf versions across the board. The decaf cinnamon black tea in particular has been a favorite of mine. Excellent quality.
Ordered the same loose tea in the large size twice. Second time was because I really loved the first batch. The second shipment was basically undrinkable and looked nothing like the original package. I emailed customer service right away and they sent a prepaid return label. Then I waited and waited and nothing. Even after tracking showed they received it back, complete silence. Getting my refund took me over six weeks and a ton of effort on my part. No apology, no explanation, just radio silence. Their customer service is terrible and quality control is even worse. Things have really gone downhill. The entire ordeal cost me months and way too much energy.
Bought straight from the Harney and Sons website and got tea bags that feel like plastic material. The tea leaks right out of the bags because they're not sealed properly. When you pull the string, it rips through the cheap plastic. The taste is off and unpleasant compared to what I've purchased from them before. Really let down by this. On top of everything, their refund policy is awful. They only give back half your money and want to send you more bad tea instead. No way. These plastic bags are ridiculous.
Their tea flavors are absolutely amazing. One of my favorite places to shop for tea.
The tea quality is actually great but wow, the customer service is a nightmare. I placed an order for 3 packs of 50 sachets totaling over sixty bucks. One of the packs turned out to be wrong so I reached out the next day hoping to swap it out. My order wasn't even processed yet but they told me changing it was impossible. Since there's no cancel button, I just asked them to send what I ordered anyway. More than a week goes by and nothing has shipped. I tried calling to cancel and get my money back so I could buy tea somewhere else, but I only got a voicemail. Really disappointed because I actually do like their teas, but I won't be ordering from them again.
Spent over ninety dollars on tea and at checkout they said my credit card didn't go through so they ran it a second time. When I checked my account, I saw two charges. When I reported the duplicate charge to my bank, they insisted both charges were legitimate. These people seem nice enough but they'll definitely overcharge you. Who needs to buy nearly two hundred dollars worth of tea anyway? The whole situation wasn't handled well or explained clearly.
Bought their teas and their website has really gone downhill. I've been waiting for them to hand off my order to the post office for two days now. Called to check on things and they mentioned they're having some issues but asked for patience. Well, my patience has run out.
PayPal isn't an accepted payment method here and based on the reviews about bad service and not standing behind products, I understand why. I'd avoid ordering from any company that doesn't accept PayPal as a payment option.
For almost a decade, I've been buying their chocolate tea and would've given them five stars until recently. They sent chocolate tea that smelled and tasted like harsh chemicals. I managed to get a refund after some hassle, waited, and ordered again expecting a different batch. That one smelled and tasted just as bad like it could be dangerous. Now I'm trying to get a refund on the loose leaf version. The sachets are fine but the loose leaf is awful. They gave me a postage label but I'm older with a health condition that leaves me exhausted and returning it means driving across town and standing in long lines. I've called and emailed asking them to arrange a pickup but have been on hold for a very long time since they opened. Not sure what happened to their quality or service anymore.
