What Shoppers Say About Jewel-Osco
Jewel-Osco receives predominantly negative feedback from shoppers, with recurring complaints centered on deceptive pricing practices, misleading promotions, and a digital coupon system that disadvantages older customers and people with disabilities. Reviewers report that sale items are placed in wrong sections to encourage full-price purchases, the mobile app is difficult to navigate, and vague signage in departments like seafood obscures actual deal terms. Additional serious concerns include instances of expired products on shelves, billing errors on delivery orders that go unresolved, and poor customer service experiences at specific locations.
A smaller portion of reviewers express satisfaction with the store, but positive feedback is minimal in the available reviews. The most vocal complaints center on what shoppers perceive as predatory pricing tactics that harm vulnerable populations, coupled with unresponsive customer service when issues are raised. Many dissatisfied customers report switching to competitors with more transparent pricing and checkout practices.

Sorted by: Most recentI'm giving two stars only because their refund process works smoothly. My real issue is that I'm consistently missing half of what I ordered. It's not usually an out of stock situation, but items that show as delivered when they definitely weren't. Out of stock happens frequently too, which I can accept. But then I have to place another order, pay a tip again since it's not usually their fault, and cross my fingers it arrives complete. That's too much hassle. I'm going to find a different delivery service because this happens way too often.
Went to the location at 75th and Jane in the suburbs today. The cashier, whose name was Kristina, told me she couldn't bag my items because her arms were hurting. That was literally all she said to me. If someone is in too much pain to do their job, they should go home. What really bothered me was that she had no problem chatting with the customer before me about getting her hair done. I'm really disappointed. If this is the kind of attitude your cashiers are bringing to work, I don't need that kind of service.
I placed a grocery delivery order three weeks ago and had a terrible experience. Even though I paid over one hundred dollars, my groceries never showed up. When I checked the status, customer service said the address was wrong and sent everything back. This is frustrating because I've made many orders before this one and they all arrived without any problems. I called customer service and was told I'd get my money back in five to seven business days. But that was weeks ago and I'm still waiting for my refund. I've contacted them repeatedly and talked to different representatives each time, but nothing has been resolved. The lack of follow-through and broken promises have really upset me with their delivery service. I'd warn others to be careful and maybe try a different grocer until they fix these issues. I'm calling them every single day to get my money back.
The shopping experience keeps getting worse. I hate the multi-buy sales where you have to purchase several items to get the deal, especially when one item's regular price is basically the cost of buying two. The online coupons are confusing enough, and now they've added e-coupons that force you to buy and use the same day. Why can't I use them another time? I'm not interested in online ordering either. The fresh meat section could really benefit from a ticket system so you don't have to guess when it's your turn. Plus, there are too many self-checkout lanes now. If customers are doing the work themselves, shouldn't we get a discount on our total purchase?
Something's changed for the worse. I used to think their prices were competitive with other major chains, but those days are gone. With everything costing more these days and prices skyrocketing, this store got way too expensive. I actually left a shopping trip here while visiting the area because the sticker shock was just too much.
The quality of produce here is terrible and most employees show very little interest in helping customers. Everyone chooses the self-checkout machines in this area because the staff are so dismissive and unwelcoming. I saw someone stealing merchandise and reported it to management, but the manager and four other employees just stood around watching the person fill luggage with stolen items and walk around the store. When I asked if they were calling police, they said management told them not to do anything about shoplifters. It was really unsettling to see staff just standing by while someone was clearly taking things without paying. The cashiers mentioned the store doesn't even have security. This location has a troubling history.
I've shopped here many times, probably a hundred or so, and the experience is consistently great. Every visit is enjoyable and I like that they have the cryptocurrency ATM there too.
I would give zero stars if I could. As a freshpass subscriber, I shouldn't be charged for delivery, but every single order attempt resulted in unauthorized delivery charges plus random five dollar fees being added, even though everything I was buying was eligible for the program. Multiple phone calls and chats with customer service reps resulted in conflicting information, and they wouldn't help if a receipt had already been generated. When I explained that my original payment method had already been charged and sent screenshots as proof, one representative basically called me a liar and denied they ever charged me. Because of how I was treated, I will never give this company my business again. They're charging cards without permission and tacking on mysterious fees. When you call to complain, the reps claim they'll reverse the charges once things process and try to get you to switch payment methods so they can pull the unauthorized amount from a new card. This was the worst experience ever.
Just finished shopping at the location on McHenry Road in the Chicago suburbs and had an excellent experience at the checkout counter. The cashier, Laurie, processed my transaction super quickly and made everything run smoothly. Really appreciate the professional service.
I used to love shopping at this store, but lately it's become really frustrating. Finding the products I normally buy has gotten so much harder since corporate decided to discontinue most of the items that typical shoppers look for. Instead, they've filled the shelves with ethnic and specialty products. While those stores are better equipped to carry those items with their own supplier relationships, it doesn't make sense for a mainstream grocer to reduce their basic inventory. Taking away items regular customers want won't help the business succeed, it'll drive loyal shoppers away. It's concerning to see this direction because losing your core customer base is not a smart business move.
