What Shoppers Say About Schoolspecialty
Schoolspecialty has a severely troubled track record according to shoppers, with 1.6 out of 5 by 22 reviewers. The overwhelming majority of complaints center on multiple critical failures: items arriving damaged or broken, incorrect shipments followed by lost replacements, extreme delays spanning months, chronic backorder issues, and a complete breakdown in customer communication. Shoppers report calling repeatedly without callbacks, emails going unanswered, and orders stuck in limbo for extended periods. Additional concerns include billing errors, duplicate charges, and collections notices sent to customers who had already paid. A small minority of reviewers report positive experiences, noting that when the company does engage, customer service can be responsive and helpful, and that products eventually arrived in acceptable condition, but these accounts are vastly outnumbered by accounts of operational dysfunction.
The volume and consistency of negative feedback suggests systemic problems with inventory management, order fulfillment, shipping logistics, and customer service responsiveness. Shoppers universally advise others to avoid the company and explore alternative suppliers, citing the stress and financial uncertainty created by months-long delays, damaged goods, and communication breakdowns. The few positive reviews acknowledge similar delays but credit exceptional customer service recovery efforts, though this appears insufficient to offset the widespread failures reported across dozens of transactions.

Sorted by: Most recentThese folks are operating like scammers. I was browsing their items and wanted to check on shipping and taxes. I went through their whole checkout process, got to the credit card page where they said the next screen would be a final confirmation before charging. Wrong! It went straight to processing the payment. I called right away to cancel and they basically said too bad. I tried their chat too and saved a copy where they gave the same response. I contacted my credit card company and after the charge posted, they refunded me. I have no idea what happened to my order or the stuff I was looking at. Just stay away from them.
Placed an order on their website a while back. After my payment went through, I was told those items weren't available anymore. They gave me a credit for the merchandise but conveniently left out the tax and shipping charges. Customer service told me to call back with my credit card details so they could process the partial credit I was owed. That was over 3 months ago and I still haven't seen it. When I called a third time to follow up, I got the runaround about some "task" that got sent to their accounting department. The representative basically said their accounting team is understaffed and can't take phone calls because it would slow them down even more. Nobody offered me a supervisor's contact information either, and apparently this company is just one division of a much larger corporation. My spouse was on the call with me the whole time and heard everything.
This is possibly the worst employer in the entire state of Wisconsin. They lie to people and commit fraud against customers. I really hope people are paying attention to these reviews. I hope schools will stop using this company and switch to more trustworthy suppliers instead.
We're only giving them one star because that's the minimum. We ordered a 300 pound barbell set that showed as in stock on their site. It also said free shipping but they charged us a hundred bucks which we dealt with. Their site claimed it was in stock and would be delivered but then we found out the manufacturer was out of stock and because of delivery restrictions we'd have to wait. This was back in late March. Just recently we got an email saying they've put a new minimum purchase requirement in place (which was never mentioned before) and our order got canceled. All our items went back into their inventory. Nowhere on their website does it even mention a minimum purchase policy because of current events. This is a breach of their agreement with us since they advertised it in stock, took our order, and agreed to fulfill it without any mention that it might be unavailable or that there were new minimum purchases. That's a total bait and switch. This is not okay.
This company is totally unreliable. They take your payment, sit on your order for over a week, and then cancel it without even sending you an email to let you know. That's already bad behavior for a regular retailer, but it's absolutely unacceptable for a company that's supposed to serve other businesses.
Bought something from them where the listing said "in stock, ships in 2 to 3 business days". After I completed my purchase, I got one order confirmation email and then nothing. No updates about the product actually being on backorder. A week or so later I reached out via their chat feature and found out it was indeed backordered. When I asked the rep why they'd charge me if the item wasn't in stock, they just shut down the chat. I never got any follow-up communication after that. This was really bad. I won't be ordering from this place again.
I sent back a single item that they got on September 13th. By September 27th I still had no refund so I called to check on it, figuring 2 weeks should be plenty of time. They told me I'd get it the following week. I waited and got nothing. Called back and got a "supervisor" named Quinn who said it went to the wrong warehouse and they have to sort that out first. Excuse me? Everyone agrees they received my item so the right move here would be to issue the refund immediately and figure out their internal problems later. Another call on October 4th with a different supervisor, Sarah, and another excuse and still no refund. Do yourself a favor and don't buy from this company. Their system is broken and their customer service is even worse.
I've been ordering from this company throughout my 10 years of teaching and they used to be solid. But man, over the last 3 years everything has fallen apart! I've had mixed up orders, sent the completely wrong stuff even when I reordered, found another school's paperwork in my box, and supplies that take forever to arrive. What changed?! I'm seriously looking for another supplier at this point.
I used to work at one of their warehouse locations in Wisconsin. The management there is completely awful. All they care about is hitting sales numbers. They'll put you on a write up for underperforming, calling in sick, or even losing a family member. The pay is pretty rough although the benefits aren't terrible. But the management creates a really negative atmosphere and get defensive when you ask questions or need clarification on something you weren't properly trained on. The training team rushes through everything so people don't actually learn how to do things correctly. The permanent staff are hostile and won't help out the temporary employees. There's basically zero chance of moving up if you work there.
I was pretty apprehensive about ordering from this site given all the negative feedback I saw posted, but I decided to take the chance anyway and I'm glad I did. Placed an order for a tempered glass floor mat on April 23rd and received it on April 25th, partly because their warehouse is in Salt Lake City and I'm just about 4 hours away in Saint George. Given all the complaints I'd read, I was expecting to wait around 2 weeks, so when that freight truck rolled up to my door the very next day I was absolutely floored. You shouldn't base your whole opinion of this business on the bad reviews you find online.
