What Shoppers Say About Sun Country Airlines
Sun Country Airlines is rated 1.7 out of 5 by 18 shoppers, with reviews sharply divided between satisfied budget-conscious travelers and customers experiencing significant operational failures. The small group of positive reviewers praise Sun Country for offering the cheapest direct flights, particularly for students and budget travelers flying within the airline's route network. However, the vast majority of reviews document serious issues including flight delays and cancellations, poor customer service responsiveness, seat reassignment despite paid selections, damaged baggage, and non-functional voucher systems that prevent redemption.
Recurring complaints focus on operational mismanagement and problematic customer support. Multiple reviewers report they were unable to use travel vouchers provided by the airline due to system errors and unhelpful support teams. Customers describe the flight crew as unwelcoming, cancellation policies as nonsensical, and the airline's accountability for both technical issues (broken toilets, aircraft fires) and handling failures (torn luggage, scattered belongings) as lacking. Even long-time customers report noticeable service deterioration. For budget-conscious flyers on specific routes, the low fares may justify the risk, but most reviewers emphasize the poor overall experience makes the savings not worthwhile.

Sorted by: Most recentReally appreciate having this option. I'm a student at a Minnesota university and Sun Country has the cheapest direct flights home for semester breaks. Their low fares make it possible for me to visit family regularly, which means a lot. It's a solid choice if you're on a tight budget.
What a letdown. Sun Country has really gone downhill over the years. I've been a loyal customer for nearly 40 years and this last trip was a disaster. They reassigned our seats even though we had paid for specific ones, the flight crew was incredibly unwelcoming and had bad attitudes throughout, and when I tried to get help afterwards, nobody seemed to care. It breaks my heart because this airline used to actually be good.
Terrible airline. Skip them completely. I was forced to book last minute because of an emergency and they delayed the flight by an hour and a half, which caused me to miss both of my connecting flights with barely any explanation. When I landed, my luggage was torn open and my belongings were scattered all over the baggage claim area. They damaged both my bags and ruined my whole travel plan, costing me significant time and money. Stay away.
My spouse and I flew Sun Country to Mexico and it was the absolute worst airline experience we've had. Our flight to Mexico was cancelled because the aircraft caught fire. On the return trip from Mexico, we were delayed because of something ridiculous like a broken toilet paper holder. Once we finally got back to Texas, there were more delays. We couldn't get to a proper gate at the airport, so they dropped us on the tarmac where we had to wait hours to get picked up by a bus and disembark. Do not fly with Sun Country.
Had an impossible time trying to use a voucher they gave me. Couldn't book a flight with it. Their support team didn't really want to help. I tried multiple payment methods and kept getting declined, so I called my card issuer. My bank said the problem was on Sun Country's end. Sun Country promised to have their accounting department look into it and called back with nothing useful except telling me to try again, even though I'd already done that twice. It was just mistake after mistake.
Worst airline I've ever traveled on by far. Their cancellation policies make no sense because they issue travel vouchers that are basically worthless and can't even be used right away on your next trip. I can't recommend booking with them. It's just throwing away money and dealing with useless customer service. If they actually had a responsive support team, things would be different, but it's another headache.
They cancelled my Saturday flight out of Boston with no warning. The earliest replacement they offered was two days away on Monday. They didn't help me rebook with anyone else. I had to book on a different airline and pay three times what I originally paid. This airline is a disaster and their customer service is completely unhelpful.
No complaints. We were a few minutes behind schedule but nothing serious. About the same as any other airline really, except the prices are way cheaper.
Sun Country is legitimately terrible. I've heard all the bad things people say about them and now I believe every word. Their delay made me miss my international flight to the Philippines and cost me an extra grand to rebook another ticket. I'm currently stranded at LAX because of them. I'm done with this airline for good and making sure everyone I know avoids them too.
Scheduled to take off at 8:10 pm and kept getting pushed back through the night. By midnight they cancelled completely. They rebooked us for 2 pm the next day but kept delaying it to 4 pm, then 6 pm, and eventually 9 pm due to mechanical issues. The problem was they didn't have a mechanic on hand. I ended up not being able to go on my trip at all. Communication with passengers was really poor throughout the whole ordeal. This was supposed to be a trip from a small regional airport to the Mississippi coast.
