Our institution was told for almost 4 months after payment that our journal access wasn't available through their system. When we finally got it working this week, we had to jump through so many hoops. The sales team won't even give us back the time we lost and refused to apologize for how badly they dropped the ball. I'd stay away from their journal subscriptions if you have any other option.
This place is a complete disaster. Customer service is a nightmare. Their website constantly throws up errors when you try to check your account and when you call to get help, they just give you the runaround for months. I'm working with my company's librarian to find literally any alternative because this is not sustainable and they show zero interest in actually fixing anything.
Would give zero stars if the system allowed it. The returns process here is absolutely brutal and straight up archaic. Their policies feel like they're from decades ago, not designed for 2024. Waiting nearly two days for email responses while trying to sort out a return was torture. Students especially get hurt by their refusal to process returns smoothly. I sent my item back in early October and still haven't seen a refund. Steer clear of this place.
As someone looking to publish, things started out promising and seemed really exciting. Then something changed. The communication feels murky and there were some warning signs early on that made me uncomfortable about moving forward with this partnership.
Don't get their ebooks. It's not really an ebook since you have to stay logged into their site or app to read it, and switching pages takes forever. Calling it an ebook is misleading since you can't actually read it offline or without internet. Good luck trying to read it during your commute. I asked support about switching to a paperback and offering to pay the difference and got a hard no. Then they wanted me to troubleshoot by trying different browsers instead of actually helping.
I signed a contract with them back in March 2024 that promised weekly promotional push, distribution of 500 copies to bookstores nationwide, and specific sales targets. I paid 3000 dollars upfront for printing with the rest due after 8 months if targets were hit. Well, targets weren't met and the books went nowhere. The ads did run like they said they would, which I appreciated. I tried to cancel and get refunded in November, but here we are in mid-December and all I get are empty promises about callback times that never actually happen. Everything was fine until I asked for my money back, then they just disappeared.
Bought a trading book from them and the printing quality was terrible. The top margins are basically nonexistent so all the text and diagrams are cut in half throughout the entire book. It's completely unreadable. I've bought plenty of books including from other publishers and never seen such poor printing. No quality checks whatsoever. The book is worthless even though it wasn't cheap.
From an author's perspective, this publisher is shockingly unprofessional. Their submission and review processes are a mess. I made every correction they asked for in my work but they kept telling me the changes weren't there. After I sent a frustrated email, they finally actually looked and saw that yes, I had completed the revisions, not once but twice. Publishing with them felt like negotiating with amateurs. The system itself is outdated with weird registrations and sketchy websites that make you feel like you're being ripped off. And just when you're done jumping through hoops, they hit you with a publication fee bill. The decline in standards since 2015 is noticeable. It's honestly a mess to work with them.
Felt really misled by their site. I bought what I thought was a full ebook but when I tried to print pages, it wouldn't work and had watermarks all over it. Their response was just 'that's normal for copyright.' Problem is they don't mention either of these restrictions on the product listing or in their ebook guides. That's sketchy business behavior.
