Sherwin-Williams Reviews
Sherwin-Williams receives highly polarized ratings, with shoppers either very satisfied or very dissatisfied. Positive reviewers consistently praise the quality of paint products and highlight exceptional customer service from individual store employees like Hannah, Peter, Laurel, and Joe, who are described as thorough, attentive, and genuinely helpful. However, the majority of negative reviews focus on employment-related concerns, particularly repeated cuts to retirement contributions in 2009, 2020, and 2025, with some product-related complaints about unexpected drying times and finish quality inconsistencies.
The stark division in ratings reflects two separate customer bases: retail paint buyers who generally report satisfaction with products and personalized service, and employees or job applicants voicing concerns about compensation and benefits practices. While individual store locations receive strong praise for staff performance, broader company practices appear to be a significant source of dissatisfaction among a larger portion of reviewers.
Writing this for anyone considering a job at Sherwin-Williams. Over the years they've cut retirement contributions multiple times, including in 2009, 2020, and again recently in 2025. While they did restore them eventually after previous cuts, they've done it again now. For four months straight, there's been zero retirement contributions going out nationwide for employees. This is a multi-billion dollar corporation doing this to hardworking people across the country. If you're thinking about joining them, be aware that there's no word on when or if they'll bring those contributions back.
Hannah from the local team was incredible to work with. She went way above and beyond helping me with technical issues and process problems. What impressed me most was how thorough she was. She didn't just fix what was broken; she looked at the whole situation to make sure everything was handled right going forward. Her attention to detail and commitment to my success saved me tons of time and headaches. If you need someone who genuinely cares about getting things right, Hannah is the person to ask for.
Peter at the local store gave me fantastic service. Really made my visit great and I'd definitely go back!
Pretty tough to submit a review on this one. I've been using this water seal for years and grabbed 3 gallons recently. Applied it and it took forever to dry, about 24 hours or more, then it ended up with a glossy gluey finish that wasn't what I was going for.
The Sherwin location on Nairn in Winnipeg is where I get all my paint. Laurel, the assistant manager, and Joe are absolutely amazing! They take their time with you and are super helpful whenever you need something. This place is hands down my go-to for paint and I tell everyone about it.
Been using this paving seal for over a decade without issues, but my recent purchase didn't dry properly for days and looks terrible. Called the number on the can and got transferred overseas where the person pretended not to hear me and hung up. I tried another number and spoke with someone who asked a bunch of questions, so I sent photos and receipts like they wanted. Never got a response and my emails started bouncing. The customer service was pretty awful and the product failed me. Won't be buying this again and can't recommend it to anyone else.
Ordered a large shipment of paint from the distribution center in Garland, Texas for the professional painters I hired to paint my whole house. The paint I got was practically useless and looked like straight water. On top of that, most of the cans showed serious rust and corrosion. This distribution center is a complete disappointment, sending out old, bad product.
Caught a decent sale and ended up saving a good chunk of money. Quality stuff at a better price.
This has to be the worst paint I've ever bought. Picked up two gallons to paint my bedroom and bathroom. The paint is so fragile that just bumping the walls causes it to come off. For the price I paid, this is totally unacceptable. I usually shop at Home Depot and never had issues, but everyone talks about Sherwin so I decided to try them. Big mistake. Paint behind my headboard flaked off, paint near the bathroom light started peeling, and there are two more spots in my bedroom doing the same thing. Now I need someone to come repaint everything.
Ordered white parking lot paint and what showed up was yellow! Had to pay my workers $40 just for showing up, then make another trip to get the correct color. The staff said sorry but that doesn't fix the wasted time and money.
Keep getting constant spam messages from these folks. I never signed up for anything on their website. Unsubscribed and sent emails but nothing changed on their end.
Seems like a fun place to work since the staff seems way more interested in hanging out than helping customers. Went back five times because I needed a whole house worth of paint and wallpaper but eventually gave up and found another location.
The 10 year roof seal I bought started peeling after just a year. When I complained, they gave me the runaround asking how much I used, whether I cleaned the roof, if it was flat, wanting photos and samples. Never got real help or answers. Skip this brand and get Everbuild Black Jack instead, which actually works.
Really let down by Sherwin Williams paint. The quality just isn't there anymore. I grabbed 5 gallons and right away had problems. The color didn't match my sample like it should have, and the eggshell finish came out completely flat instead of what I expected. Then the semi-gloss white for my trim was equally flat and felt chalky when I touched it. My contractor wanted me to use Sherwin so I did, and I'm really disappointed with that decision.
