About Sports Direct

Founded by Mike Ashley in 1982, Sports Direct is a major British sports retailer. Headquartered in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, the company operates hundreds of stores across the UK and Europe.

What makes Sports Direct stand out is its business model: "pile it high, sell it cheap." They offer a huge range of branded sportswear, footwear, and equipment at heavily discounted prices. By buying in bulk and acquiring well-known brands, Sports Direct can provide a wide selection of products from top brands like Nike and Puma, as well as their own high-quality lines. This makes them the perfect one-stop shop for customers who want great value on their sports gear — much like other affordable athletic retailers such as Dick's Sporting Goods or Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Order Tracking

After your order is confirmed, you can track your parcel's journey by:

  • Check the order confirmation email they sent you.
  • Log in to your account, go to your order history, and click "Track Your Order."

If you chose Click & Collect, we'll send you a "Collection ready" email as soon as your order arrives at your chosen store.

Returns and Refunds Policy

You have 28 days to return items from the date of your online order. For a successful return and refund, make sure your items are:

  • Unused, unworn, and unwashed.
  • In a resalable condition with their original packaging and all tags attached.
  • Securely repacked for shipping.

Please note that stores can only process returns for items that were originally bought in a store. If your order was paid for with a gift card or eVoucher, your refund will be issued back to a gift card or eVoucher first, with any remaining amount refunded to your other payment methods.

Don't order from outside of UK

First time I ordered for international delivery to Canada no problems at all, the second time I ordered the item sat at customs for 10 days and was sent back to London, there was no follow up whatsoever or even an explanation why the item did not clear customs and was sent back. I was partially refunded with the reason that I changed my mind. I would have liked the item. Their customer service is never available. The automated service is very unhelpful.

If I could give a negative score

If I could give a negative score, I would. In short, it is the returns policy, especially for gifts. I was given a gift which did not fit, the store did not have the correct size to exchange. I asked for a full refund only to be given a credit note. I don't want to buy anything from there and certainly do not want a credit note. The stores policy is to take your legal tender and exchange it for a credit note. They will refuse to give you your money back, no matter what. Only shop there if you never expect your money back. Personally, I will never shop there or in its associated franchise stores again.

Poor delivery and customer service closed

My experience so far is poor. I ordered next day to a store and when I actioned the delivery it said my estimated delivery was in 7 days time. I went on and ordered again for me home address next day delivery as I needed it for Christmas. This was on Monday for next day delivery, admittedly it was later in the evening but I didn’t expect it Tuesday but I did Wednesday. The delivery price had doubled since my first order. It did say it would be delivered the Wednesday. It never came and it stated my delivery was delayed. I have tried since Monday to cancel my first order as clearly I don’t need two things. The method to do this was through web chat apparently. It hasn’t been open on any day since the order - there is no other way to sort this - so I’m currently stuck. With a late order which hasn’t come on time having paid a higher price for it…. And the second I can’t cancel because their customer services is permanently closed despite it being within the open hours. Needless to say I don’t think I’ll be using again. I’ll see how this resolves as I’ll give them chance to sort once I can actually speak to someone.

Delayed delivery with incorrect tracking delivery date.

Christmas present delivery was due on December 22nd but still has not arrived, despite still stating an anticipated December 22nd delivery time on the tracking email update.

Faulty shoes & refused refund customer…

Faulty shoes & refused refund customer rights ignored?I bought Puma running shoes from Sports Direct and they turned out to be faulty. The right shoe is constructed differently to the left, which causes discomfort, imbalance, and visible bumps on my feet. I reported this within the legal 6-month period covered under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which gives customers the right to a refund or replacement if a product is faulty regardless of the store’s 28-day returns policy.Sports Direct rejected my return, saying they “didn’t find anything faulty” even though I have clearly explained (several times) that when I walk in the shoes, one shoe feels completely different to the other. You can only discover this kind of manufacturing fault by wearing the shoes. The difference from what I felt in the physical store to wearing them properly at home is significant. They ignored my explanation, dismissed my experience, and never acknowledged my consumer rights. It’s frustrating and disappointing that a large retailer does not seem to understand or respect UK consumer law, especially the rights customers have within the first 6 months for faulty products. For the price I paid, I expected proper service and accountability. I will not be buying from Sports Direct again.

Refund policy

I originally bought a pair of Karimor trekking shoes and it turned out that they did not feel as comfortable. so if you are buying something which you are not sure of, therefore may need to return them. I would suggest either buying them directly from the brand or through Amazon. As if you need to return the item you are guaranteed a full refund for the monetary value that you laid out. Compared to Sports direct which only does a credit note valid for two years and as they do not sell any essential items they are therefore automatically tying you to them in order to get your money back, or perhaps they are hoping that some customers will loose the note or forget about it. All in all this scheme results in them collecting interest on your money in their bank and have their stock back from the return, they can resell the item collect the money most probably before you spend your credit note. So in my case they are potentially receiving interest on £99.98. If you multiply this amount by the 1000 of customers they have all over the UK which they have issued credit notes to during the Christmas period this means that they are guaranteeing interest on your money for at least 6months. On top of which some customers may have put their purchases on a credit card which therefore means that Sports direct is making money while the customer is loosing money. Perhaps HMRC should consider charging sports direct a capital gains tax on the money that they are holding in the bank for their current legal loan sharking due to their credit note scheme.

Good Selection of sports Gear

I think Sports Direct has reasonable prices. I buy my sports gear from this company. Their delivery service is good and the quality of the clothing is excellent.
