Topgolf reviews are starkly divided, with shoppers giving either top marks or the lowest ratings and little middle ground. Those who had positive experiences praise the food quality, friendly and attentive staff (particularly managers who go above and beyond), and overall fun atmosphere across multiple locations. However, many dissatisfied customers report serious operational failures, including broken ball tracking systems during paid sessions, unresponsive customer support, unreceived paid purchases with difficulty obtaining refunds, poor handling of group bookings and birthday parties, and what some describe as dismissive treatment from management when problems occur.

The recurring complaint centers on inconsistency and customer service failures, particularly when issues arise. Loyal long-term customers express frustration that the experience has deteriorated over time, citing cash grab tactics and lack of accountability. While some visitors leave highly satisfied after smooth, well-managed visits, others report feeling nickeled-and-dimed and undervalued despite spending substantial amounts of money. The stark rating split suggests Topgolf's quality depends heavily on location, timing, and how staff handle unexpected problems.

I spent years playing the golf game but am done with it now. Used to be excellent but has gotten steadily worse. The whole thing has been taken over by cash grab tactics and poor treatment of customers. Support basically ignores you when you reach out. I paid for a premium wardrobe upgrade that never showed up and my request to get my money back went nowhere. The in-game equipment costs are ridiculous. The platform is plagued with bugs. The most recent issue is a popup that keeps showing up even after you turn it off. Plus trying to buy anything just gets you stuck in an endless login problem. Deleted it completely.

The staff at the Rhode Island location was friendly and welcoming. Overall the experience was okay but came with some mixed moments. Here's what I'd tell potential visitors to know. We paid 60 dollars for a 90 minute session and arrived about 15 minutes early. Once we got the text, we headed to our bay where the previous group was just wrapping up. We had to wait for them to leave and the server to reset the space. When we finally started, the timer showed only 80 minutes instead of the 90 we paid for. I brought this up when we got the bill and the server checked with management, who reduced our charge. The actual gameplay was fun but felt a bit rushed because of the countdown timer. When the final bill came, it included the one time membership fee at 6 dollars per person, food and drinks, plus the 15 dollars that had already been charged when we booked. What surprised me after we got home was realizing we'd tipped on the full amount, not just the food and beverage portion. That tip covered the play charges and membership fees too. The server was attentive and good though, so at least he had a good day. The experience was enjoyable but pricey, particularly if you're footing the bill yourself.

I've been to Topgolf three separate locations five times total and was really pleasantly surprised. The food actually exceeded my expectations. I haven't had even one bad visit across any location. Definitely going back.

We've been loyal customers at the El Paso location for years, visiting multiple times annually and regularly spending significant money. Last night our group of six spent over 750 dollars hoping for a memorable evening. Instead, we had a frustrating time when the ball tracking system stopped working. The manager on the floor seemed annoyed rather than helpful and acted like we needed to fix it ourselves instead of taking charge. After lots of back and forth, he only gave us 30 extra minutes, which didn't come close to making up for the time we wasted dealing with the technical problems and the money we lost. What bothered us most wasn't the cost but the principle. Given how much we've supported this location, we felt we deserved better treatment, especially with kids in our group who were excited and ended up disappointed.

Topgolf Edison gave us outstanding service both times we visited recently. Cristian, the manager in the red jacket, and our server Ashlynn really made the difference. From when we arrived, Cristian made sure everything ran like clockwork. He was professional, engaging, and genuinely cared about making sure our group was comfortable and having fun. Ashlynn was exceptional too, coming around at just the right times and remembering details from our last visit. She had smart suggestions, kept the whole experience organized, and did it all with genuine warmth. This kind of consistent, responsive, and caring service from both the management side and the staff is unusual to find. Cristian and Ashlynn have made this location my go to spot for relaxing, having fun, and feeling appreciated. Absolutely recommend. I'll definitely be back and bringing others with me.

We scheduled a birthday party at the Surrey location in May with 18 guests, including young kids aged 4 and 6. Despite pre booking for quick entry and paying upfront, we were initially denied group seating and told to figure it out ourselves. We noticed staff watching us much more closely than other parties. The food came out incomplete and disorganized. Then midway through, staff became aggressive and accused us of breaking rules without any real basis, and publicly removed us in front of the children using those exact words about being kicked out. It was humiliating and upsetting on what should have been a happy day. Afterward they billed us for food we hadn't finished eating or never received. We had to go back and push hard to get a partial refund. When I sent in a formal complaint instead of investigating or apologizing, management retaliated by banning everyone who attended, including the toddlers, across their entire chain. This feels like punishment for standing up for ourselves and our families are really hurt by it. We'd actually had a positive visit with this same group earlier in the year, which makes this treatment even more shocking.

Skip this. Every player gets hit with a mandatory 5 dollar membership charge whether you like it or not. The tee boxes sit too low and the ball holder is right against your tee. If you get an end bay, almost every target is positioned far to the right or far to the left. Drinks cost 9 bucks each for a flavored seltzer. Honestly, for about 100 bucks you could play an actual round at a real golf course, bring whatever you want to drink, and enjoy the 19th hole at the clubhouse after.

Went on a busy evening and there was quite a line to get in, but it moved at a reasonable pace. Since I didn't have a membership yet, I had to wait with a bunch of other people wanting to go upstairs, but that wait gave us time to grab some food. The staff was really responsive to everything. The only thing that could've been better was having vinegar available by the time our food arrived, and we had already finished eating before it was time for our round anyway.

Awful experience. The reviews online even show just how bad the service is. Had a problem trying to buy a gift card and couldn't get any response through their contact form, which seems to be the only way to reach them. Their phone line is basically always busy. This place is worthless and I won't be going back.

I asked customer service about the golden ball feature twice and they had no idea what I was asking about either time. Both times they just went back to being on their phones and watching videos. One employee seemed pretty young and the other was older, but neither helped.

Ashley L.Aug 1, 2025

I asked customer service about the golden ball feature and they had no clue what I was talking about. They just went back to scrolling on their phones watching videos. I tried a second time to get answers and got the exact same response both occasions, once from what looked like a younger employee and once from someone older.

We were in the middle of eating our meal at the Chigwell location before our game when a security person demanded to check our wrist stamps. My two friends had them but I didn't since I'd shown up a bit late. The guard said I needed to show an ID, which hadn't been required before and I didn't have on me. All three of us are well into our thirties and I'm actually 35, so I definitely don't look young. The whole situation was ridiculous and I was literally kicked out while eating. I'd never experienced anything like it before. I asked to speak with a manager to get our meal, drinks, and game refunded since we were forced to leave. The manager didn't volunteer to help, I had to demand it. Eventually he said okay this time he'd allow me to stay. The whole thing completely ruined what had been a fun evening up until that point. The way they handled it was rude and confrontational and absolutely unnecessary. Won't be coming back.

Susan M.Apr 15, 2025

Really frustrated by all the extra charges, including a 25 dollar booking fee on top of everything else. When I talked to a manager about it, they basically just shrugged and said that's how it is. I won't be bringing my family or any friends back here after this.

Christopher K.Dec 11, 2024

Avoid this place. Their site advertised a promotion for the holiday season offering a 10 pound bonus card when you buy a 50 pound gift card. I bought one for the Chigwell location but the bonus card could only be used at Glasgow, which is 400 miles away. I complained and had to send 12 different emails trying to get it fixed. The people handling it couldn't grasp that I wanted to use both cards at the same spot. Topgolf outsources gift cards to another company and the service from both is absolutely terrible. Just go somewhere else.

My back problem got worse out of nowhere and the kids wanted to surprise me with a Topgolf trip for Father's Day. Unfortunately we had to cancel and they're not giving back the deposit. The location said rescheduling isn't even an option. This is rough since these are kids without much money to spare. Not cool.
