Wind & Weather Reviews
Wind & Weather is rated 1.8 out of 5 by 24 shoppers, with the vast majority of reviews being highly negative. Recurring complaints center on severe customer service deterioration, including long wait times (25+ minutes), unanswered emails, and calls routed to overseas support. Shoppers report misleading pricing practices, such as discount codes that don't apply as promised, mandatory insurance fees added to all orders, inflated tax calculations, and excessive shipping charges (20-25 dollars per item). Additional issues include late deliveries (sometimes months late with no communication), billing errors and duplicate charges, and disappointing product quality for premium-priced items like specialty plants and decorative lighting.
A small minority of shoppers gave five-star ratings, though no positive review excerpts were provided in the recent data. The store, which specializes in outdoor and garden products, appears to have undergone ownership changes that shoppers say have resulted in a sharp decline in service standards, transparency, and overall value. Most reviewers explicitly state the company was superior in the past but would not recommend it in its current state.
This company used to be fantastic but they've completely fallen apart. I'd give them zero stars if I could. Used to be quick on calls and had amazing support, but that's ancient history now. Calls are being handled overseas, you're looking at 25 minute wait times or more, and after sending two emails that went unanswered and making two calls today about a defective $200 item I just want replaced, they won't budge because it's past 30 days even though I purchased it during Christmas season. This never would've been an issue with the old company. I genuinely loved their whimsical outdoor stuff but I'm done. Lost a longtime customer here.
Wind & Weather isn't straightforward in their business practices. They hand out discount codes but then don't actually apply them to your order. When you push back, they claim the discount is already reflected in the catalog price. Plus they charge a mandatory insurance fee on everything, which means you have to pay extra just to ensure they actually send your stuff. They're the only company I know that forces customers to buy insurance. It's basically another sneaky way to bump up the bill.
My husband gave me the White Amaryllis Garden as a Christmas present. It arrived December 4th, we watered it right away and put it in a sunny spot. By December 30th, what a letdown. Only one out of ten Star of Bethlehem flowers actually bloomed, and five of eight tulips barely bloomed at all and at crazy different times. The Amaryllis is moving at a snail's pace. I'm rating this a 2 only because I had high hopes for the Amaryllis itself. It's been such a disappointing basket. I won't be ordering another one. And just so you know, I'm an experienced gardener, not some beginner.
Had major billing issues where they charged incorrect amounts and actually billed me twice, leaving pending charges all over my accounts. The product itself was also disappointing - I spent over 60 dollars on a hanging LED paper star that turned out to be total junk. Now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get this thing returned.
I've bought from this place twice and both orders showed up way too late. The first time I got a hummingbird feeder I'd ordered back in November as a Christmas gift. Never heard from them and it didn't arrive until February. Not ideal since the timing was all wrong, and they could've at least said something about the delay. Second time I ordered a Halloween decoration in July and it didn't show up until two days after Halloween had already passed. Their lack of communication and poor timing is pretty unacceptable. I don't even open their catalogs anymore.
Since Wind and Weather got new ownership, their shipping fees have gotten out of control. Most items now come with 20 to 25 dollar shipping charges, and they tack on a required 5 dollar insurance fee to everything. But that's not even the worst part - the tax calculations are totally wrong and inflated. Tax should be based on where the item's going, which for me is 5.9 percent on merchandise and shipping. But every single item I've looked at is being charged at 9 to 10 percent. That means they're probably skimming a couple extra dollars off every purchase. And it's not even like they're using the local Madison, Virginia tax rate of 5.3 percent.
Ordered something back in March with a mid-May delivery promise. It's now late June and nothing. Their customer service just has a recorded message telling you to be patient, then the line goes dead. I've tried reaching out through every contact method they list and haven't heard back from anyone. They have some nice items I wanted, but I'm done with this outfit.
I ordered a wreath three months in advance of Christmas. Didn't get it until three days before the holiday. While waiting, I ordered a second one and asked them to cancel it if the first arrived. Well, both showed up just three days before Christmas. Neither looked like the pictures - they were brown instead of the red shown - and both reeked. Not appropriate for the season at all. Tried returning them right after Christmas and they refused, even after I explained the situation. Lost 300 dollars and won't be ordering from them anymore, even though they'd been a favorite for years.
I've never dealt with a company that makes returning items so unnecessarily difficult. I followed every instruction they gave me to a T and didn't get a response to my email. When I finally got someone on the phone after waiting forever, they told me I couldn't process a return even though I was the one who received the item. They insisted the original buyer had to start the return. When I pushed back, the rep just hung up on me. Absolutely awful.
They simply won't answer their phones, and I mean never. Whether it's to place an order or deal with customer service, good luck getting through. This doesn't seem like a company you can rely on.
Customer service was absolutely terrible. Got the wrong item shipped to me and after waiting on hold for 15 minutes just to reach someone, I was told a return label would be emailed in the next two days. Four days passed with no label, so I tried calling back. After two separate holds of 20 and 15 minutes respectively, I finally got through. The rep told me the wait was only 10 minutes, which was obviously false, then said they were working on my label and I'd get it in a few days. All the while they're still holding payment for the item I actually ordered, which costs twice as much. No apology offered and the service rep was incredibly rude.
Bought a metal reading dragon sculpture on May 28 with an expected ship date of July 2. June 18 comes around and I get word the order would be delayed until July 9. Early July, my credit card gets compromised in some data breach and I have to get a new card number. So I call Wind and Weather on July 7 to update the payment info before they try to charge it. Turns out the ship date has already changed again to August 6, and new orders supposedly won't go out until mid-September, but they swear I won't lose my spot. July 8 I get a cancellation email. July 14 brings a message from their partner company saying the new date is now September 17. I can't even find my order online anymore. When I asked about the date change, they basically said since I had to cancel for payment reasons, the new order loses the original delivery date and that I was given bad info over the phone. They also mentioned that phone orders are treated differently.
Got the snowmen spinner for outdoor Christmas decorating. The base is way too small for it to actually spin properly. Really disappointed with how it performs.
Placed an order for two items but only received one in the first shipment. After waiting weeks, I finally reached out to ask about the missing piece. They promised to send it right away, but here's the kicker - the same item was being sold on their website for less money than what I'd paid. Then I got a cancellation notice for my second item. I suspect they oversold after my purchase and prioritized newer orders instead of honoring mine. Would definitely reconsider ordering from this company in the future.
Got a bulb basket ordered early December for a Christmas gift with a promised delivery by mid-December. The recipient was going to be traveling, so I needed that early date. Wind and Weather kept pushing the ship date back further and further every time I checked. I called customer service and they said people were out sick and couldn't tell me when or if it would even ship. Totally unacceptable service, and now it looks like I never sent a gift at all. I won't shop here again. They don't care about customers, and I seriously doubt staff were sick for that many weeks straight.
