Spinnaker Reviews
Spinnaker watches receive sharply divided feedback, with roughly equal proportions of customers extremely satisfied and others deeply disappointed. Satisfied buyers praise the value proposition, particularly for dive watches, noting reliable timekeeping, good build quality for the price, and successful international shipping without unexpected duties. However, the majority of reviews highlight serious concerns: defective watches with timekeeping issues, poor dial legibility due to crystal distortion and lume application problems, and a return process that falls well short of stated timelines. Customers report waiting 6+ days for responses despite advertised 2-day windows, being questioned about return reasons, and encountering radio silence during the process. Several reviewers also report being charged for return shipping on faulty items and perceive aggressive pricing practices with inflated suggested retail values.
The most consistent complaint centers on customer service responsiveness and support for defective products. Buyers express frustration that the company appears unwilling to stand behind purchases, requiring customers to cover return shipping costs and navigate lengthy communication delays when problems arise. While the core product appeals to budget-conscious dive watch shoppers when it performs well, the risk of receiving a defective unit combined with difficult post-purchase support creates significant hesitation.
Purchased the Skeleton Piccard model and ran into multiple problems right away. The timekeeping was off by about 10 minutes daily and the dial was nearly impossible to read. The domed crystal combined with all that dial detail created terrible distortion. When I contacted them about it, they insisted I ship it back overseas and provide tracking. Never mind that it arrived locally in just 3 days. Their address was missing a zip code and the package got sent back to me. UPS quoted me $248 as the cheapest shipping option to their location. Total disaster. Almost $400 wasted on a low-quality product. Avoid this brand entirely. They clearly don't back up their watches.
Absolutely frustrating experience trying to get a return handled. Their stated 2-day response window? Doesn't exist. Took 6 days just to hear back, and when they did, they questioned my reason for returning it even though I'd explained everything in my first message about the watch being unexpectedly bulky. Then radio silence for another 5 days with no follow-up. Their customer service is honestly awful. Skip doing business with overseas companies. After way too long they finally got back to me, but then said I'd have to cover return shipping myself. The shipping cost alone was over $200 while the watch was only $250. Don't waste your time with this company.
Skip Spinnaker watches entirely. When mine developed a fault, they made me pay to ship it back for repairs. It's a nice-looking piece, but terrible after-sales support isn't worth it. You'd think they'd stand behind what they sell.
Grabbed a Fleuss Automatic during a sale and it's fantastic value. Not sure why so many people are complaining. For the price, this is probably the best dive watch option out there. Keeps perfect time. Swapped out the band for a grey silicone one and have been using it for swimming without any problems. Really happy with this purchase.
Disappointing watch overall. They inflate the suggested retail price so the discounts look bigger than they really are, and even at £200 off it's not worth buying. The bezel feels cheap, the movement is underwhelming, and the strap has poor design. The lume application is particularly bad, making the dial look blurry and hard to read.
My Spence 300 showed up in about a week after I ordered. I've bought 3 of their watches over the past couple years and haven't had to pay any extra duties or taxes on any of them, all delivered via FedEx. No quality problems with my other two and I don't expect any with this latest one.
Got my Fleuss through Amazon and was so happy with it I went back and ordered the Croft 40mm and a Bradner as well. All three are fantastic. Build quality is solid, pricing is fair, and delivery through Amazon went smooth with no complications.
This was my one and only Spinnaker purchase. Looked fine at first glance, but problems showed up pretty quick. White particles ended up on the black dial that shouldn't have been there. Inspecting further, I spotted blue stains between the bracelet links. Water and soap got most of them off, but turned out to be leftover polish residue. Once that was cleaned, rust discoloration appeared underneath that won't come off. Small and hard to notice, but a brand new watch shouldn't arrive like this. Then I went to adjust the date and time and discovered the crown sits at an odd angle. It turns fine in and out, but spin it halfway and you can clearly see it's not straight. Quality control here is seriously lacking. Never buying from them again. Other micro brands in this space have much tighter manufacturing standards and actually care about their customers.
Got the Boettger limited edition dive watch. The box and the watch itself look incredible. The bezel is tough to grab though, would work better if it extended more from the case, but that's not a deal breaker unless you're actually diving professionally. The real issues are pretty disappointing. They included both metal and rubber options, which is thoughtful, but attached them with a weird two-part pin that has screw heads on each end. They threw in a tiny screwdriver but it's basically useless since it won't fit the lug holes and there's only one anyway. Plus the pin doesn't actually go through both lugs, so getting the two sides lined up is nearly impossible. Last complaint is the rubber strap itself, which feels sticky rather than like silicone. Getting one end threaded through the first loop is a pain because of how tacky it is. They need to redesign these pins and switch to actual silicone straps before I'd recommend this or any of their similar models. Shame because the watch is so nice looking otherwise.
They charged me significantly over the actual retail price. The watch ships from overseas and then you're stuck paying all the import duties and taxes on top. I bought a watch listed at a certain price and ended up paying an additional 27% just in taxes and tariffs that should have been their responsibility. Want to send it back to avoid this? They won't help with return shipping costs AND they make you pay for the original shipment too.
Reached out to their customer service team multiple times starting back in early November. Still haven't gotten even a basic acknowledgment, let alone an actual response.
If you're having trouble reaching their team, check that you're contacting the right department and verify your spam folder isn't blocking them. I ran into a timing problem with one of their Bradner models and contacted them about options. They sent a prepaid return label right away and immediately shipped out a replacement that looks fantastic. Couldn't ask for better support. Ordered another model, the Fleuss, and was equally happy with the product and how the whole order went. Will definitely buy from them again. They stock quality pieces and genuinely back them up.
Getting bad customer service? Double-check you're using the right contact info and look in your spam folder. I had a timing issue with a Bradner I ordered and when I reached out, they handled it great. Sent me a prepaid return label immediately and had a replacement out fast, looks beautiful. Really pleased with how they took care of it. Grabbed another watch from them, a Fleuss, and was just as satisfied with both the product and the whole transaction. Happy to order from them again since they make solid watches and actually stand behind them.
The quality is mediocre at best, and something seems off about their review process. I picked up a Dumas model and posted an honest 3-star review about some finishing problems after a week of owning it. That review never appeared on their site. Every single review showing on their website is 5 stars with barely a sentence of text. Can't trust what you see there. The watch itself is poorly finished and not worth the asking price even with a 30% discount applied. Tons of smaller watch brands make better stuff, and classic names like Seiko and Orient deliver way superior craftsmanship.
Beautiful timepiece completely ruined by what happens after you buy it. This company acts like they care before taking your money, then suddenly treats you like garbage. Their after-sales experience is so bad I'm sending the watch back just on principle. Plenty of other micro brands out there making watches with the same type of movements but actually treating their customers with respect.
