What Shoppers Say About Mood Fabrics
Mood Fabrics receives predominantly negative ratings, with shoppers citing serious issues across multiple areas of the business. Common complaints include website functionality problems (pages jumping with mouse movement, coupon codes not working), poor customer service (inaccurate shipping information, lack of phone support, refusal to process refunds), slow shipping times (two to three weeks), and high shipping costs relative to order value. Shoppers also report that fabric quality does not match online photos and that sizing runs small. A smaller group of satisfied customers praise the fabric quality itself and note positive in-store experiences, suggesting the core product may be acceptable but operational and service issues significantly damage the overall experience.
Billing discrepancies have been reported, including instances where promised credits for out-of-stock items were not applied correctly and shipping charges that seem disproportionate to purchase size. While Mood Fabrics operates physical retail locations that some customers enjoy visiting, the online ordering and fulfillment experience appears to be a major weakness that deters repeat purchases.

Sorted by: Most recentI placed an order for several different fabrics and they reached out to tell me one was out of stock. They said they'd subtract that item's cost from my total, which was fine and I was grateful for the heads up. However, when everything shipped and I got charged, the amount was higher than it should have been. After removing the cost of the missing fabric, the tax should have been lower but wasn't. I sent an email pointing this out and got back a response that just repeated what they charged without explaining why it was different from the normal tax rate for my state. Some vague answer about duties and taxes and fees. That doesn't add up though, because the original tax before the fabric was deducted was calculated correctly for where I live. It's not a huge amount, but it's the principle of the thing. You can't just charge whatever amount you want and throw it on an order. They basically defended the mistake and refused to fix it.
The quality of the fabric itself is okay, but I had a really disappointing experience with your customer service team. I was actually understanding about a weather issue that occurred after I placed my order, so I just called on Friday to check on the status. Your rep didn't need to tell me the order was shipping that day when it wasn't true. Nobody forced them to do it. I wasn't even angry, just wanted an update. But then I found out DHL didn't even pick it up until the following week to hand off to USPS, which added even more time. My order went in on 2/23 and I didn't get it until 3/6. That's way longer than what your website said it would take.
This website is the worst. It's super buggy. Every time you move your mouse even a little bit, the page jumps away from what you're looking at. They sent me a coupon code in an email after my first order so I tried it and keep getting an error that it's not valid. I copied and pasted it exactly. I wasted way too much time on this issue and it should not be this hard. I haven't even left a review on the fabric I wanted because I won't order from a company that can't get their website to work right.
Don't trust this company. Their sizing runs way too small and the fabric quality is really poor. The pictures online are misleading. There's no phone number listed to call them if you have issues. Plus it's taking over three weeks just to get my order. The shipping speed is terrible.
I bought some buttons for about a dollar and they charged me six dollars for shipping. The buttons don't even work and Mood Fabrics won't refund them. For such a large company in today's world, that's really bad customer service.
I'm obsessed with this store when I'm in NYC but the online ordering is terrible. It's overcomplicated, super confusing to navigate, and shipping took two weeks and still hasn't come. Honestly with how much the shipping costs to where I am, I could have just gone to New York myself.
I visited the store while I was in New York and thought the fabric selection was amazing. But when I ordered online from home, I was missing all three cuts I ordered. The packing slip said they were there but they weren't in the box, just the notions. All they'd give me was store credit because there apparently wasn't enough of those fabrics in stock, but then I never actually received the credit. I reached out maybe three months total trying to sort it out before I finally gave up. Don't bother ordering online from here.
Overall I've had pretty good results ordering fabric online from them. That said, some of the jersey materials they have on sale can be really off grain, and I wish they would disclose that they're seconds or imperfect. My biggest frustration though is their review system. I've posted several reviews and my positive 4 and 5 star reviews always show up, but none of my 1 star reviews have ever appeared. Because of that you really can't count on the reviews on their website being honest.
I'd bought fabric from them before and was pretty happy, so when I found their free sewing patterns I got excited. That excitement died fast though. The instructions for the patterns are really unclear and when I asked about it on the blog post for the project I was working on, they responded saying that the instructions are vague because they're free, and suggested I should have made a practice version first. They basically said I wasn't the right person to be using free patterns and should buy their paid ones instead. Elisabeth Moore even commented saying if I needed help I could email her, so I did. After a week with no response, I found out the topic was closed and nobody was helping. I spent money on fabric for a design that had confusing instructions from someone who would rather see customers fail than help them troubleshoot what they're confused about.
Really nice variety to pick from at this store. Everything is organized well and Trinity, one of the sales staff, was incredibly helpful guiding me through the options. She jumped at the chance to help, knew exactly which materials would work best for what I was looking for, and had tons of knowledge. That employee should get recognized as Employee of the Month, or honestly even Employee of the Year.
