What Shoppers Say About TomTom
TomTom's reviews reveal a deeply polarized customer experience. The half of reviewers who gave five stars actually expressed severe frustration with the website's navigation and layout, describing it as confusing and recommending competitors instead. Meanwhile, one-star reviewers reported critical issues including devices that refuse to install updates, unreliable navigation functionality, unresponsive hardware, and especially problematic customer support experiences such as long wait times in live chat, unresponsive support staff, and accounts being blocked while customers were still seeking help.
The common thread among negative reviews is poor customer service responsiveness and technical problems that the company appears unwilling or unable to resolve. Even among the five-star ratings, the feedback indicates severe usability problems rather than satisfaction. No reviewers expressed genuine enthusiasm for TomTom's products or services.

Sorted by: Most recentIf I could give zero stars I would. My brand new navigation system refuses to install updates whether I'm on a computer or using WiFi. There's no phone option and no email support, only live chat. I've been waiting over 90 minutes so far. An automated system confirms tickets were created but nobody from their actual support staff has made contact. This is incredibly frustrating for such a large international company to have such disappointing support.
I hate leaving negative feedback, but I'm fed up with TomTom. I've got a model 550 and they removed my drive feature, making it incredibly annoying to use.
My new vehicle came equipped with a TomTom GPS system. Having owned over a dozen different GPS devices throughout the years, I've seen plenty of good ones. This TomTom is something else, but not in a good way. The navigation is so unreliable that I decided to buy a separate standalone unit instead. Here's what I mean: when a destination is only 200 meters away and I can literally see it, the device tells me to drive 1.5 kilometers and make multiple U-turns. The only time it seems accurate is within the final 50 meters. Honestly, not worth using for anything else.
I contacted support because my GO Expert Plus device keeps freezing and becoming unresponsive. I tried factory resets and recovery procedures but nothing worked. Instead of helping me troubleshoot, support closed my ticket and then blocked my entire account while I was still seeking assistance. This locked me out of my services and made the device completely unusable for my work, causing significant frustration. The underlying issue is a known software problem with no solution available yet, and now I can't even access my account to try anything else. This is honestly unacceptable and shows a real lack of commitment to customer care.
All I needed to do was register a new device and update it on my profile. I kept getting lost in the navigation trying to find what I was looking for. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is hands down the most frustrating website layout I've ever used. My suggestion would be to choose Garmin instead.
I just wanted to register a new device on my account and then get it updated. Instead I ended up going in circles unable to locate anything I needed. This is genuinely the most confusing website I've encountered. If you're looking for navigation, I'd strongly recommend checking out Garmin instead.
When I placed an order for a new device, they shipped it to my old address instead of the current one listed in my account. Getting help is nearly impossible since their customer support chat is powered by an AI that doesn't understand anything I'm trying to explain.
The TomTom application stopped working properly. When I reached out to their support team, they gave me a reference number and that was it. Never heard back from anyone despite waiting. I already paid for the service in full and still haven't gotten a response.
Steer clear of TomTom at all costs. Their customer support is completely useless these days. The company used to provide decent service but has turned into a complete disaster.
Watch out for newer TomTom devices because they don't last very long. I bought one last year and it quit working after just 11 months. I sent it back for repairs, they said they fixed it, and sent it back to me. Within a couple days it broke again. Now it's past the warranty period (which is TomTom's problem, not mine) and they're asking me to pay for another repair. I'm done with this brand and their customer service is worthless.
