What Shoppers Say About Abode
Abode has a polarized customer base, with 63 percent of shoppers giving five-star ratings while 25 percent rate it one star. Satisfied customers appear to value the system's core functionality and integration capabilities, though positive details are sparse in recent reviews. However, a significant portion of reviewers report serious reliability issues including cameras dropping connections, doorbells failing to update firmware, battery problems, and unreliable video feeds. Common complaints center on poor customer support (described as understaffed and unhelpful), recurring need to reset systems after power outages, broken Apple Home integration, defective key fobs that the company continues to sell without refunds, and non-functional paid video recording services despite multiple support tickets.
Recent one-star reviews consistently describe products that stopped working after weeks or months of use, unresponsive customer service, and a frustrating support experience with representatives offering no resolution. Some long-term owners express regret over their purchase, particularly regarding discontinued plan options and integration problems that worsen over time. The disconnect between the high five-star rating and detailed complaints in recent reviews suggests that negative experiences are becoming more common or that unsatisfied customers are increasingly motivated to share their experiences.

Sorted by: Most recentIn my view, this is the weakest security camera system out there. I can't recommend it or the company to anyone who actually wants to feel secure in their own home. We've had constant problems with every camera and their paid video recording service has never worked, even after submitting multiple support tickets. You get what you pay for here. There's a reason it's inexpensive.
Skip this doorbell completely. I bought one in 2023 and it limped along for about a year with poor battery life and video delays, then the problems got worse. Notifications stopped coming to my phone and the video feed became unreliable. Customer support put me on endless hold so I gave up. Last week it quit entirely while trying to update firmware. After a week of troubleshooting with support, they told me the hardware was defective but refused to replace it since it's been two years. They want me to drop $120 on another one that might fail the same way outside the warranty window. There are competitors charging half that price that work better. I wasn't even able to finish posting my review on their website.
I've owned this system for over four years and honestly I regret the purchase. They discontinued their temporary plans, and the Apple Home integration is basically broken. Every power outage forces me to completely reset the system and battle through customer support to get the hub working again before it'll sync back with Apple. Look into SimpliSafe or another brand instead. Once you're locked into Abode, they don't seem interested in supporting you.
The high ratings at the top appear to be from company staff who are now part of their support team. The support itself is absolutely abysmal. For two weeks straight, different representatives kept saying they were looking into my issue. There are only three people on the entire support team. I used to love this company before they got acquired, but now they treat customers with zero respect. I wouldn't wish what I've gone through with them on anyone.
Nothing about this setup works properly for me. It's all pretty much useless. My cameras keep dropping connection, the doorbell camera won't finish updating and just shows a black screen, and I'm paying for the Pro plan but can't get any alerts configured. They said they'd mail me a SIM card to activate but I never got it. Even the security sign showed up incomplete. It's been a waste of money and nothing but stress.
The key fobs for arming and disarming are really disappointing. Mine keep breaking and are a complete waste of cash. The company knows these fobs are defective but keeps selling them without offering refunds on something that doesn't work.
Ordered internationally and paid a hefty expedited shipping fee plus customs charges. The courier just left a $400 package on my porch without requiring a signature. When I reached out to the company about the missing item, they ghosted me for over a week. Once they finally got back to me, they flat out refused to replace or refund the order. As the seller, they should've made sure the product got safely into my hands. I've never experienced customer service this bad. I'd steer clear of this company.
The product works okay and connecting devices is straightforward, but some of my sensors keep linking and unlinking constantly, which floods my phone with alerts some days. A bigger issue is the Z-Wave compatibility claim is basically false. None of my Z-Wave devices actually work with it, so I'd have to buy all new ones. The compatible alternatives they suggest are ancient models that are out of stock anyway. New products aren't listed so you're gambling with every purchase. When I called support, they seemed dismissive and made it sound like my problem, not theirs. The customer service was really disappointing.
My experience has been somewhat hit and miss. Getting everything set up was pretty easy and I like how it works with Apple HomeKit. Unfortunately my first order came with a faulty sensor that was frustrating to diagnose, and they wouldn't rush the replacement so I waited over a week with one entry point unprotected. On top of that, the adhesive backing on the mini door and window sensors is really weak. About half of them have peeled off the walls because the velcro failed, and several times the chime went off unexpectedly when they fell, which was really startling thinking someone was breaking in. If that had happened while we were away it would've triggered the alarm. I had to use better adhesive to secure them all. Beyond those headaches, the system works fine. I'm not blown away by it, but it'll do for now unless I find something better suited to our needs.
