What Shoppers Say About 24 Hour Fitness
24 Hour Fitness receives a 2.0 out of 5 rating from 15 shoppers, with a significant majority expressing dissatisfaction. The most common complaints center on poor facility maintenance, with multiple reviewers reporting broken equipment that remains unrepaired for months, unsanitary conditions including dirty shower areas and pool sections, and inadequate equipment quantities for classes. Additional issues include billing problems where members report continued charges after cancellation requests, unreliable personal training services, security concerns related to locker break-ins, and a general perception that management is unwilling to invest in necessary repairs and upkeep.
A small segment of reviewers rate the gym positively, suggesting some locations or experiences are acceptable, though these positive reviews are significantly outnumbered. Even long-term members of over 30 years report that facility conditions have deteriorated notably. The recurring theme across negative reviews is that paying members feel their monthly fees are not justified given the current state of equipment functionality, cleanliness, and overall facility management.

Sorted by: Most recentI stopped going to this gym over a year ago. When I quit, I spoke with staff and explicitly requested to cancel my membership for health reasons. Out of nowhere, they tried charging me fifty-four dollars for a monthly fee. I went back to the facility to find out why they were still billing me when I hadn't stepped foot in there for over twelve months. It's obviously simple for them to check if anyone has actually used the gym, but they claimed I owed money regardless. A careless employee apparently never completed my cancellation, so now I'm stuck paying for services I never used. The management won't listen to explanations and seems unconcerned. It appears like staff might do this deliberately to extract cash from customers. Most people probably don't push back because they think it's hopeless, but it's really unfair. They make it super easy to sign up, taking just minutes, but canceling a membership turns into a nightmare. This whole setup feels predatory. Be extremely cautious and careful if you're considering joining.
I've been a member for 33 years and this place has never been in worse condition. Roughly half the equipment is out of service and has been sitting broken for months. Group fitness classes don't have enough weights for everyone who shows up, and the management won't spend money to fix it. People end up hoarding weights because there aren't enough to go around. The floors, mirrors, and restrooms are all filthy.
How much longer are we going to wait for these machines to get fixed? I'm still paying my monthly fees, but there are multiple pieces of equipment that have been broken for at least two to three months now. This shouldn't be acceptable for paying members.
The Mission Hills location is filthy and poorly maintained. There's trash covering the men's shower area floor, and the steam room breaks down constantly, sometimes staying broken for weeks. Security is a concern too since there have been break-ins where people lost belongings from lockers, and management doesn't seem to care. Even shower heads have been stolen. The membership deals are misleading as well. They offer a discounted one-year membership but don't make it clear that it auto-renews and keeps charging your card after that year ends. By the time you realize what happened, it's already too late to stop them. They hide behind fine print in the contract claiming automatic renewal. Save yourself the trouble and look for a different gym.
My personal training experience was really disappointing, and I want to share what happened so others can make better choices. I was matched with a trainer who turned out to be unreliable and dishonest. Throughout my time, I dealt with repeated problems that made me question the quality of service. These problems included trainers not showing up as promised, phone calls going unanswered, and staff being unable to resolve issues I brought up. The actual training program didn't meet professional standards at all. I made several attempts to fix these issues, but nothing changed. The location was convenient, but that's where the positives ended. The communication was poor, customer service fell flat, and there was zero accountability. I'd suggest looking elsewhere for personal training before signing up here.
A while back, 24 Hour Fitness let go of their night cleaning team, and it's made a real difference. The pool section has gotten noticeably dirtier over time. Things have gotten to the point where I'm keeping my membership through August, but I'll be stopping soon if they don't dramatically improve how clean the place is.
The trial membership program is deceptive. I signed up for a trial to see if I'd like the gym. I didn't, so I canceled. A staff member at the desk told me I'd only pay one dollar for a trial period through the eighteenth, and if I decided it wasn't for me, I could cancel with zero additional charges. That's exactly what they said. When I called to cancel, they informed me I owed a fifty dollar cancellation fee. Either the staff is giving false information, or they're deliberately misleading people. The fine print that mentions possible early termination fees has a broken link, so you can't see what it says. The actual terms are hidden deep in pages of fine print that come after the lengthy signup process, which feels intentional. This whole dollar trial into a hidden fee setup is seriously misleading. I plan to share my experience on multiple review sites and file reports with consumer protection agencies.
The location at Lakes of Bella Terra has cut their group exercise classes by more than half. There's maybe one class in the morning and a few scattered through the rest of the day. Friday has no classes, Saturday and Sunday only have two classes each. With so many classes removed, membership doesn't really feel worth it anymore. I'm seriously considering canceling.
I was a loyal member for 23 years, but my experience ended badly. During the pandemic, they continued charging me even though there was no legitimate way to cancel besides doing a bank chargeback. When I finally moved and canceled my membership, I made sure to confirm the cancellation went through. Three months later, I discovered they were still billing my account. I'm honestly not confident I'd consider returning. This feels like dishonest business practices.
